Big Brother 9: Jen and Parker Sent Packing
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Editorial,
Big Brother 9 is living up to its subtitle: ‘Til Death Do You Part. Tonight TMZ photographer Parker paid for his partner Jen’s sins in the Big Brother house when both were sent packing in the second eviction. James and Chelsia moved from their roles as extras to lead characters after they won Head of Household. The house guests lost and gained a few oddball privileges and Joshuah went a few words too far in his attacks on house gossip Amanda.
The partially live show (on the East Coast at least) began with a montage of the many faces of Amanda, the 23-year-old paralegal from Minnesota. She can’t seem to keep her mouth shut and when cornered isn’t above swearing on her dead father’s name and the bible to be redeemed. These tendencies put her on the receiving end of what’s being called the ‘biggest fight in Big Brother history’. Most of the fight scene is completely unfit for network TV, but in the few clean sections we see Chelsia confronting Amanda and Amanda denying she’d said anything about her. Then media advertising buyer Joshuah joined the fight and ramped up the vitriol, saying everyone in the house hates Amanda including her partner Alex. He called Amanda an ugly horse-face and about the most offensive name you can call a woman. Here is a hint: the word starts with “c” and Jane Fonda said it on the Today show the other day.

2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Thanks to the cancelation of the Golden Globes ceremony, the hottest ticket in town was tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Without a picket line to cross, celebrities from TV and Film were allowed to celebrate - and commiserate - together for the first time in a long while.
For star-deprived fans, the SAG red carpet was also a treat for sore eyes. What were our favorite actresses wearing? What were the latest trends? Which dresses were going to be copied by Allen Schwartz tomorrow?
Unfortunately, the evening was not all about partying. The recent deaths of Suzanne Pleshette and Heath Ledger cast a somber tone on what would normally be a festive occasion. Thankfully, tonight was not about dissecting their lives, but merely about honoring them.
Meanwhile, the neglected winners of this month’s Globes were also hoping to get a share of the honors. If they were able to pull off another victory tonight, maybe they would have a chance to give the speech they already had written.
Well, without further ado, here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the fashionably late West Coast!

Writers Return to ‘Mad Men’, ‘Weeds’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Cable, Showtime, Announcements, News, Renewals,
Thanks to an interim deal between Lionsgate and the WGA, fans of at least two scripted programs have the comfort of knowing their shows will eventually return.
Because they are part of Lionsgate Television, production on both Mad Men and Weeds can once again resume. Writing on the AMC drama was scheduled to begin way back on November 7th. Meanwhile, this recent turn of events has proved quite timely for the Showtime series; work on the 4th season was originally slated to start about now.
As a bonus, AMC has just started re-airing episodes from Mad Men’s first season. Those interested in catching up on the Golden Globe-award winning series should set their DVRs for Sunday nights @ midnight (12am on Mondays).

CBS Adds Showtime’s ‘Dexter’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Cable, CBS, Showtime,
The writers’ strike has forced the networks to creatively fill their programming gaps. Some shows have been brought back earlier than planned (e.g. Big Brother) while others are airing multiple times a week (e.g. House). Then there are those networks who have sister channels to steal from. Thanks to NBC’s relationship with the USA Network, Law and Order: Criminal Intent was available to occupy an open Wednesday time slot. Now CBS will be adopting the same recycling strategy to beef up their Sunday nights.
Starting next month, the Eye network will re-air episodes of Showtime’s Dexter. Fortunately for CBS, the series about a forensics expert who moonlights as a vigilante serial killer already had a syndication version in the making. (Think Sex and the City on TBS.) Although many worry the Michael C. Hall vehicle will lose its edge under the editing scalpel, the show’s graphic content is supposedly on par with other network programs.
Look for the sanitized updates to hit the airwaves on February 17.

So who cares if no one will be in attendance, the Golden Globe nominations must go on! (If the ceremony continues on as planned, it will air Sunday, January 13th on NBC.)
Here are the most notable omissions/additions in this year’s list of television honorees:
- Damages and Longford led the pack with 4 nominations each.
- James Gandolfini and The Sopranos were both left out of the races (though Edie Falco did get a nod).
- Three of the nominees for best TV Comedy (Entourage, Extras, Californation) came from pay-cable networks.
- Past faves (Desperates Housewives, Heroes, Ugly Betty) were nowhere to be found. (Though America Ferrera did earn a nod for her individual achievement.)
- HBO led the networks with 18 nominations; ABC was second with 11.

MONDAY (12/10)
- I Want a Dog, Charlie Brown (ABC, 8pm): “Linus and Lucy’s little brother, Rerun, hangs with Snoopy and his own sibling, the desert-dwelling Spike.” Was I the only one not aware of the What’s Happening!/Peanuts crossover episode?
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8pm): “Ted asks his doctor on a date and his friends try to discourage him from dating someone he sees regularly.” Relationships clearly work best when you never see them at all.
- Notes from the Underbelly (ABC, 9:30pm): “Lauren tries to convince her sister to move to LA so she can be nearby when the baby is born.” Lauren’s sister isn’t stupid. She knows what ‘be nearby’ means.
- The Hills (MTV, 10pm): Season finale. “Lauren gets an offer to go to Paris.” I really hope MTV doesn’t take their version of quality programming overseas (again). The French hate us already.
