Could the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards be another year for firsts?
Around this same time last September, the execs of basic cable were thrilled to see one of their own finally win the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series (Mad Men). Meanwhile, producers of reality fare saw an award given to one of their hosts (Jeff Probst). So which other category could be covered during this round? Animation.
For the first time since 1961 (when The Flintstones were still on air), an animated program has been nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. So will Family Guy finally go where The Simpsons has never gone before? Not if the six other contenders have anything to say about it!
So who won? Who lost? Which funnyman took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor since Jeremy Piven wasn’t even nominated? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

Thursday Ratings: Many Goodbyes for ER
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, Survivor, Ratings,
Last night, viewers came out of the woodwork to say goodbye to NBC’s long-running drama. ER‘s series ender attracted the largest audience for a drama finale since Murder She Wrote in 1996. (It also pulled in the best demos since the conclusion of The X-Files in 2002.)
8pm
- Survivor: Tocantins (11.2 million, 3.6/11 in 18-49) saw its smallest audience of the season.
- The ER retrospective (3.5/10) got 10.6 million warmed up.
- Bones (2.6/8) turned in 9 million.
- In the Motherhood (5 million, 1.6/5) lost 1.7 million; Samantha Who? (4.8 million, 1./4) gave up 1.7 million.
- Smallville (3.8 million, 1.6/5) was up slightly.

MONDAY 3/30)
- Greek (ABC Family, 8pm): “Casey returns from her summer internship with secret plans to move out of her sorority house.” Unfortunately, she couldn’t wait to change her Facebook profile.
- Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm): “Charlie blows off steam by sharing a drunken night with Alan, Herb and his neighbor after Chelsea discovers nude photos of another woman on his cell phone.” Kinda makes you wonder what Denise Richards has on her ex.
- Rules of Engagement (CW, 9:30pm): “Jeff and Audrey lie to get out of Jennifer and Adam’s dinner party in favor of a better bash.” Fondue parties are so 5 years ago.
- CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm): “Ryan is kidnapped and forced to betray Horatio and the team.” Cue Horatio lowering glasses in disappointment.

If ABC was hoping to make some improvements to its Thursday night ratings, the network might have to try again. In the Motherhood and Samantha Who? tied Ugly Betty‘s previous demos while averaging a smaller audience. Meanwhile, a rare Thursday appearance of American Idol gave FOX a win in both categories.
8pm

- NCAA basketball (10.1 million, 3.5/9) rallied 700,000 more.
- The premiere of In the Motherhood (6.7 million, 2.1/6) tied Samantha Who? (6.5 million, 2.1/6) in the demos.
- My Name is Earl (5.9 million, 2.0/6) fell by 500,000; an early episode of The Office* (4.8 million, 2.1/5) was up 200,000.

College sports coverage proved to be both a winner and loser for CBS last night. Although the NCAA tournament didn’t earn the network another double win last night, the court action did score a tie in the demos with ABC. (The Alphabet was the sole winner with the viewers.)
8pm
- Bones (10.2 million, 3.0/9 in 18-49) raised 600,000.
- CBS’ NCAA basketball coverage (3.5/10) scored 9.4 million.
- Ugly Betty (7.6 million, 2.1/6) picked up 400,000.
- My Name is Earl (6.4 million, 2.4/8) improved by 2 million; a repeat of The Office (4.6 million, 2.0/6) did better than the Kath finale.
- Smallville (3.3 million. 1.4/4) lost 400,000.

Love George Clooney but grown tired of ER? If so, here’s your chance to simply watch last night’s highlights.
In the vet-filled episode, Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) and Doug Ross try to convince a grieving grandmother (Susan Sarandon) to let her dying grandson go. Coincidentally, there are two patients back in Chicago (one being Dr. John Carter) who are in need of organs from the 16-year-old boy.
After watching the clips, let us know what you think. Will Dr. Ross always be Seattle’s resident McSteamy?
