Big Brother 9: Secret Lovers Nominated For Eviction
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Showtime, Editorial,
If you’ve read my past two blogs on Big Brother 9, you may remember me likening the subscription-based 24/7 Big Brother house feed to watching paint dry. My information was based entirely on past seasons. (No one needed to see an uncut version of Chicken George in BB season 1.) Based on what I’ve been able to pinch off the internet for free this season though, boy was I wrong. In fact, it appears the most interesting things that happen in that house are too naughty to show on network TV.
First though lets talk about what happened on Night 3 in the PG-rated version on CBS. The CliffsNotes version is that Head Of Household pair Amanda and Alex nominated Jen and Parker and Allison and Ryan for eviction. This after Jen and Parker decided to tell everyone that Jen and Ryan are dating and have been for 9 months. They did it because they feared Allison would spill the secret first. In the end, all this dumb bit of strategy did was prove that both couples are a liability and that Jen is a loud-mouth pain in the butt.

Big Brother 9: Exploring Co-Dependent Relationships
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Showtime,
Big Brother 9: ‘Til Death Do Us Part premiered last night on CBS and either I’m desperate for entertainment or it actually looks like this might be an interesting season. First off, the concept of the game has shifted some. Big Brother used to a be a random mix of people, stuck in an ugly house, cut-off from the outside world and surrounded by dozens of cameras and microphones that recorded every excruciating second. They lied, cheated and formed unlikely alliances to survive but ultimately it was every man or woman for themselves.
They’re still in an ugly house, surrounded by cameras and microphones but now the game is all about the power of two. Each of the 16 house guests in Big Brother 9 had to undergo extensive personality testing. That information was used to romantically match them up with another house guest who could be their so-called “soulmate”. The new couples will sleep in the same bed, compete together to win “head of household” or “power couple” as it is now called. The couples will be evicted together or, for the final two, win together. The prize for surviving 3 months confined with people you’ve potentially grown to hate is $500,000.
Adding to the drama, four of the house guests know each other intimately. Sharon and Jacob, both 23, dated for 12 years until Jacob cheated on her. Neither knew the other would be in the Big Brother house. Jen and Ryan, both from Columbus, OH, live together and have been dating for 9 months. They DID know the other would be in the house but have to pretend to be strangers to avoid eviction.

2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Award Shows, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Specials, ABC, Cable, CBS, FOX, HBO, NBC, Showtime, TNT-HD, 24, Desperate Housewives, Entourage, Extras, Grey’s Anatomy, Heroes, House, Lost, The Office, The Sopranos,
Thanks to the cancelation of the Golden Globes ceremony, the hottest ticket in town was tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Without a picket line to cross, celebrities from TV and Film were allowed to celebrate - and commiserate - together for the first time in a long while.
For star-deprived fans, the SAG red carpet was also a treat for sore eyes. What were our favorite actresses wearing? What were the latest trends? Which dresses were going to be copied by Allen Schwartz tomorrow?
Unfortunately, the evening was not all about partying. The recent deaths of Suzanne Pleshette and Heath Ledger cast a somber tone on what would normally be a festive occasion. Thankfully, tonight was not about dissecting their lives, but merely about honoring them.
Meanwhile, the neglected winners of this month’s Globes were also hoping to get a share of the honors. If they were able to pull off another victory tonight, maybe they would have a chance to give the speech they already had written.
Well, without further ado, here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the fashionably late West Coast!

Writers Return to ‘Mad Men’, ‘Weeds’

Thanks to an interim deal between Lionsgate and the WGA, fans of at least two scripted programs have the comfort of knowing their shows will eventually return.
Because they are part of Lionsgate Television, production on both Mad Men and Weeds can once again resume. Writing on the AMC drama was scheduled to begin way back on November 7th. Meanwhile, this recent turn of events has proved quite timely for the Showtime series; work on the 4th season was originally slated to start about now.
As a bonus, AMC has just started re-airing episodes from Mad Men’s first season. Those interested in catching up on the Golden Globe-award winning series should set their DVRs for Sunday nights @ midnight (12am on Mondays).

The writers’ strike has forced the networks to creatively fill their programming gaps. Some shows have been brought back earlier than planned (e.g. Big Brother) while others are airing multiple times a week (e.g. House). Then there are those networks who have sister channels to steal from. Thanks to NBC’s relationship with the USA Network, Law and Order: Criminal Intent was available to occupy an open Wednesday time slot. Now CBS will be adopting the same recycling strategy to beef up their Sunday nights.
Starting next month, the Eye network will re-air episodes of Showtime’s Dexter. Fortunately for CBS, the series about a forensics expert who moonlights as a vigilante serial killer already had a syndication version in the making. (Think Sex and the City on TBS.) Although many worry the Michael C. Hall vehicle will lose its edge under the editing scalpel, the show’s graphic content is supposedly on par with other network programs.
Look for the sanitized updates to hit the airwaves on February 17.

So who cares if no one will be in attendance, the Golden Globe nominations must go on! (If the ceremony continues on as planned, it will air Sunday, January 13th on NBC.)
Here are the most notable omissions/additions in this year’s list of television honorees:
- Damages and Longford led the pack with 4 nominations each.
- James Gandolfini and The Sopranos were both left out of the races (though Edie Falco did get a nod).
- Three of the nominees for best TV Comedy (Entourage, Extras, Californation) came from pay-cable networks.
- Past faves (Desperates Housewives, Heroes, Ugly Betty) were nowhere to be found. (Though America Ferrera did earn a nod for her individual achievement.)
- HBO led the networks with 18 nominations; ABC was second with 11.
