Take note. If you want to see your favorite actors and actresses lined up in their finest, this may be the gala to watch. Thanks to the relationship between the WGA and the Screen Actors Guild, the 14th Annual SAG Awards presentation will be allowed to go on as planned. (The same cannot currently be said of the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards.) So set your Tivo to TNT on January 27. This may be last time you get to see a group of actors celebrating together for quite some time.
This year’s television nominees are:
OUTSTANDING MALE PERFORMANCE - DRAMA SERIES
- James Gandolfini, The Sopranos (HBO)
- Michael C. Hall, Dexter (Showtime)
- Jon Hamm, Mad Men (AMC)
- Hugh Laurie, House (FOX)
- James Spader, Boston Legal (ABC)
OUTSTANDING FEMALE PERFORMANCE - DRAMA SERIES
- Glenn Close, Damages (FX)
- Edie Falco, The Sopranos (HBO)
- Sally Field, Brothers & Sisters (ABC)
- Holly Hunter, Saving Grace (TNT)
- Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer (TNT)

So who cares if no one will be in attendance, the Golden Globe nominations must go on! (If the ceremony continues on as planned, it will air Sunday, January 13th on NBC.)
Here are the most notable omissions/additions in this year’s list of television honorees:
- Damages and Longford led the pack with 4 nominations each.
- James Gandolfini and The Sopranos were both left out of the races (though Edie Falco did get a nod).
- Three of the nominees for best TV Comedy (Entourage, Extras, Californation) came from pay-cable networks.
- Past faves (Desperates Housewives, Heroes, Ugly Betty) were nowhere to be found. (Though America Ferrera did earn a nod for her individual achievement.)
- HBO led the networks with 18 nominations; ABC was second with 11.

Remember that show Cupid? Starring Jeremy Piven (way before he was a big shot on Entourage)? I vaguely remember it because I’ve been a big Piv fan since his days on Ellen and his role in PCU, so I certainly checked out Cupid. But then, it didn’t stick around. To be exact, the show only lasted 15 episodes when it aired in 1998/1999. The show was written by Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas, but back then, he didn’t have the clout that he’s gotten as a result of Veronica. So, here’s the interesting thing—ABC is giving him a second chance at bringing Cupid back to the small screen. Have you ever heard of a do-over like that? It’ll be cool to see how much they retool it, although it sounds like the concept will remain (a man thinks he’s sent to earth to play cupid… hence the name). You can guarantee of course that they’ll have to re-cast, since I’m pretty sure Piven is otherwise involved with a hit show and heaps of awards. Nor do I suspect that co-star Paula Marshall will return to the series. But Thomas does want to “try to hook some really good guest stars every week,” so hopefully that will keep people tuning in this time around.

Adrian Grenier Talks About Paris Hilton
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Reality, HBO, Entourage, Gossip,
Paris Hilton was recently spotted at a party locking lips with Entourage star Adrian Grenier. Now, Grenier’s ready to open up about his steamy kiss with the former reality star. At a post-Emmy party, Adrien paused long enough to answer interview questions about his make-out session with the heiress. Grenier said that Paris is “absolutely wonderful” and that he genuinely likes her. He also said they connect because they’re both celebrities. You wish, Grenier. The HBO actor did say that he and Paris Hilton aren’t dating, but they are friends…and he’s open to the possibility for more.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Coverage

The 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast. Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)? Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)? Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?
What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now). Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best Comedy. Last year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien. This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest. Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama. This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).
I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight. We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…
Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!

Paris and a Polaroid Party
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Cable, HBO, Entourage, Gossip, Rumors,
Paris Hilton partied at the Polaroid Beach House party earlier this week, a star-studded event. The guest list included a lot of Hollywood hotties, but – of all people – Paris chose to make out with Entourage star Adrian Grenier. He’s the one with the curly hair and somewhat pudgy face. The HBO star must have done something right – but it certainly wasn’t his hairdo that won the famous heiress over. Perhaps he used a line her learned from his cable show? Grenier’s co-star Kevin Connolly previously dated Nicky Hilton, a relationship that ended at Hilton’s insistence. Brandon Davis and Brian Grazer were also at the party, among others.

Primetime Emmy Nominations Nod at Several Shows

The 59th annual Primetime Emmy Awards have been announced, giving the biggest honors (17 nominations) to HBO’s Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee. AMC’s Broken Trail just missed the top slot with 16 nominations. After a review of the best comedy, drama, reality, and variety series of the year, a look at the TV movies and mini-series, the die has been cast. Many were nominated, but few will win. Did your favorite show, movie, or mini-series get the nod from the Primetime Emmys? There’s only one way to find out.

The 2007 Golden Globe Awards

Ladies and Gents – I can’t tell you how excited I am about the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards tonight!! It’s been a whole five months since I’ve done minute-by-minute coverage of an awards show and I’ve been dying to unload. (And yes—I am ignoring the fact that the People’s Choice Awards even exist).
The Academy Awards may get the largest viewing audience, but the Golden Globes telecast is the only one I really love to watch. A cross between the insignificant People’s Choice and the stuffy Oscars, this show mixes credibility with spontaneous fun. Yes—the Miss Golden Globe tradition is beyond lame. And yes—separating Dramas from Musicals/Comedies is something I will never understand. But knowing that I may see a star slam down a drink after bitterly losing is exciting defined.
As for who I think should win? Well, Jennifer Hudson is an absolute given. (Though Rinko Kikuchi from Babel would be a nice surprise). And it would be great to see Forest Whitaker beat out both Leo nominations. But no matter what happens, I’m ready for the ride. So bring it on!

Eric wakes up to find a restless Vince standing over him. Still bothered by the Ramones movie snafu, Vince tells Eric that they should fire Ari. Ari—either sensing Vince’s anger or wracked with his own guilt—is startled awake. He tells his wife he believes he will be fired that day.
At breakfast, Turtle jumps all over the axing Ari plan—but Drama is not so quick to judge. Johnny encourages Vince to take some time before making a big decision. At the very least, he should entertain the thought of meeting other agents before he goes completely without representation. Vince decides to go with his gut and tells Eric to call Ari. Eric refuses and makes him do his own dirty work.
