A fresh lineup gave NBC a win in the demos on Sunday night. Meanwhile, CBS (once again) took first place with the viewers.
8pm
- Million Dollar Password (7.5 million. 1.3/4 in 18-49) shaved off 1 million.
- A 2-hour Extreme Makeover: Home Edition* block (2.2/7) nailed down 6.5 million.
- The U.S. Olympic Trials (5.8 million, 1.7/6) scored 300,000 more than last week.
- The Simpsons* (1.9/6) roped up 3.9 million; King of the Hill* (1.7/5) saw 3.4 million tuning in.
- Everybody Hates Chris* (1.5 million, 0.6/2) improved by 520,000; Aliens in America* (1.3 million, 0.5/2) grew by 420,000.

Friday Ratings: Dance Machine No SYTYCD

Dance Machine - ABC’s latest contribution to the dancing genre - was out of sync with Friday night’s competition. CBS wound up winning the viewers while NBC nabbed the demos.

- Ghost Whisperer* (5.6 million, 1.4/6 in 18-49) was up 200,000.
- Most Outrageous Moments* (4.5 million, 1.2/5) tacked on another 700,000.
- Friday Night Smackdown (4.3 million, 1.4/5) grew by 400,000.
- Approximately 3.8 million watched the debut of Dance Machine (1.0/4).
- XXX: State of the Union (1.2/5) pulled in 3.3 million for FOX.

Friday Ratings: Daytime Emmys Fail to Shine

Even though the ceremony (barely) won its hour, the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards couldn’t muster enough primetime attention to topple a list of repeats. CBS wound up winning the viewers and ended up in a four-way tie in the demos.
8pm
- The Daytime Emmy Awards (1.2/4 in 18-49) attracted 5.39 million soap watchers.
- Ghost Whisperer* (5.38 million, 1.4/5) was a close second.
- Friday Night Smackdown (3.86 million, 1.3/5) did the same as a week ago.
- Most Outrageous Moments* (3.77 million, 0.9/3) was down slightly.
- Planet of the Apes (3.51 million, 1.3/5) was on par with last Friday.

Okay - so it wasn’t exactly a win. And it really wasn’t by much. But this is the first time I can recall ever saying CW was tied for the lead in the overnight demos. (It shared the honor with ABC.) CBS, meanwhile, was yesterday’s most-watched network.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer* (1.0/4 in 18-49) had 5.1 million spooked.
- Approximately 4.9 million laughed along with America’s Funniest Home Videos* (1.4/6).
- Most Outrageous Moments* (3.93 million, 1.1/4) was down about a 1/2 million.
- Friday Night Smackdown (3.86 million, 1.3/5) pumped up 3.86 million.
- FOX‘s airing of Hollywood Homicide (0.9/3) pulled in 3.49 million.

- ABC‘s coverage of the Scripps National Spelling Bee (1.1/4) had 4.6 million biting their nails.
- Most Outrageous Moments* (4.4 million, 1.1/5) was off track by 500,000.
- Friday Night Smackdown (3.7 million, 1.1/4) roped in 400,000 more.
- FOX‘s Little Black Book (2.5 million, 0.9/3) saw 1.5 million less than last week’s movie.

- A Grey’s Anatomy* block (1.2/5) roped in 3.9 million.
- Friday Night Smackdown (3.3 million, 1.2/4) fell by 700,000.

- America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.7/6) had 6.8 million laughing.
- Friday Night Smackdown (4 million, 1.2/4) was down a smidge.
- FOX‘s airing of Dodgeball (2.8 million, 1.2/4) was down 600,000 compared to last week’s movie.
- A repeat of American Gladiators* (0.9/3) only had 2.5 million fired up.

- American Gladiators (NBC, 8pm): Season Two premiere includes new gladiators (‘Rocket’ and ‘Jet’). Seriously, how intimidating could a smiling Gladiator be?
- Bones (FOX, 8pm): “When the body of an aspiring singer (Ace Young of American Idol) is discovered, Booth and Brennan probe a club’s open-mike night.” Uhh—which one was Ace again?
- Gossip Girl (CW, 8pm): “An embarrassed Serena resurrects some troubling old habits as she continues to hide the truth from Dan.” If he only knew she’d been sharing her jeans with three other girls.
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30pm): “Britney Spears returns as Abby, who is now dating Barney.” First Robin Sparkles, now Britney. I’m not sure if that’s a step up or down for Barney.

Despite smaller numbers across the board, CBS managed to hang on for its third week in a row.

- Ghost Whisperer (8.7 million, 2.1/8 in 18-49) easily topped the hour.
- ABC‘s TV’s All-Time Funniest special (1.6/6) had 6.5 million reminiscing.
- Most Outrageous Moments* (4.2 million, 1.2/5) saw 800,000 tune out.
- Friday Night Smackdown (4.1 million, 1.3/5) took in another 200,000.
- FOX‘s Man of the House (3.4 million, 1.1/4) did just as well as last week’s movie.
