UPDATE: Rudolph Not Returning to SNL After All
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
Despite their earlier scoop, TV Guide is now doing an about face on their Maya Rudolph report. It turns out she won’t be renewing her Saturday Night Live contract as hoped. After seven seasons on the show, the actress—widely known for her impressions of Oprah, Beyonce and Donatella Versace—is apparently leaving for ‘family-based’ reasons.
This now leaves only two females behind in the current cast. While we love Kristin Wiig and Amy Poehler, we hope Lorne Michaels can bring them some new help asap. We’d hate to see these ladies burn out too soon.

‘Biggest Loser’ Signed on for Fifth Season
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Renewals,
Who would have imagined that a show called The Biggest Loser would continue to be such a success? I remember the first season, thinking “no way that show is going to last.” I’ve got news for you. This show has staying power… the latest proof is the announcement that the show has been renewed for a fifth season. The show takes overweight folks and puts them through their paces—with huge results. I’ve never really watched a full season, but I enjoy tuning in at the end to see the before and after shots. It’s amazing to me that these people can work so hard and make big changes in their lives. Makes me wonder how come I can’t even manage to lose 10 pounds and stick to any kind of exercise schedule. According to Craig Plestis, the head of alternative series at NBC, “The Biggest Loser’ continues to be a top performer and important franchise for NBC, and season four is already off to a great start. We look forward to the fifth cycle of the show, and continuing to entertain and inspire viewers all over the country.” The show averaged 7.85 million viewers so far this season. Next season promises to add a new spin, with teams of competitors (rather than individuals) looking to collectively lose weight. Production begins later this fall, with the intention to air it early in 2008. Allison Sweeney, star of Days of Our Lives, will be returning as the host.

Maya Rudolph Signs New SNL Contract
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
With only days to go until the season premiere, we can announce that regular Maya Rudolph has now been confirmed for Saturday Night Live’s newest season. Up until recently, Rudolph’s status with the long-running show was unclear. Her previous contract expired last May and she was reportedly weighing a future outside TV. My guess is Will Forte’s recent flick, The Brothers Solomon, encouraged her to stick around a little longer.
SNL’s 33rd season premiere is scheduled for Saturday, September 29th.

UPDATE: No Charisma Carpenter for ‘The Apprentice’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, FOX, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald,
Okay, Buffy fans—I have some good news and bad news to report.
Bad news first. Despite their earlier report, TV Guide now says Charisma Carpenter will not be participating in the upcoming season of The Apprentice.
The good news? Carpenter actually has better jobs lined up for herself. In addition to a one-episode stint on Fox’s Back to You, she’ll have a recurring role on the new ABC drama, Big Shots.
Assuming Big Shots even lasts that long—you can expect Charisma’s run to start November 1.
SNL Hosts Announced for First Three Shows
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live,
SNL is set to premiere its 33rd season on September 29th. I have been a fan of Saturday Night Live since I can remember, and while I know it takes a beating by critics and bloggers every year, there is a soft place in my heart for the show. There are some duds—not everything works. But that’s okay. There’s a lot that is right and very funny—and quite frankly, I’m willing to tune in to see how if all turns out. So, the first show of this season will be hosted by basketball star LeBron James, and while I don’t usually dig the shows hosted by athletes, I’ll give it a try. After all, last season’s episode hosted by Peyton Manning was surprisingly one of my favorites. I guess I shouldn’t sell athletes short of their comedic talent. I’ll give it a shot. The second show, however, you don’t even need to ask me twice about watching… super funny Knocked Up star Seth Rogan (pictured here with my sweetie, Paul Rudd) will take on hosting duties on October 6th. Musical guests include Kanye West for next week’s premiere and Spoon on October 6th. Jon Bon Jovi will host on October 13th—yeah, I don’t get that either—but Foo Fighters will also appear.

Alicia Silverstone Goes Nude for PETA
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Talent, Gossip,
Alicia Silverstone, who is set to star in NBC’s sitcom The Singles Table, if ever it gets a timeslot, is appearing in a new PETA commercial. In the buff. The 30-second ad features the blond beauty getting out of a pool saying, “I’m Alicia Silverstone, and I’m a vegetarian. There’s nothing in the world that’s changed me as much as this. I feel so much better and have so much more energy.” And did we mention she’s naked? The actress, who peaked at Clueless, then seemed to fizzle, is showing first-hand how being a vegan has been the best course for her body. Once criticized for her weight gain, Silverstone said, “Once I went vegan, I lost the weight I wanted to lose, my nails were stronger, and my skin was glowing. I feel great!” To borrow a phrase (from Clueless, which I have a fond place for in my heart if only for the delicious Paul Rudd), Silverstone is such a Betty.

‘Gilmore Girl’ Signs Deal With NBC
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: NBC, The CW, WB,
Lauren Graham, newly unattached since the ending of The Gilmore Girls, has just scored a large deal with NBC. After many years playing Lorelai Gilmore on the WB (now CW), Lauren had been courted by several other studios wanting their chance to work with the actress. Seven-figures later, the Evan Almighty star finally chose to settle with the Peacock network. A group of writers will be collaborating with Graham to develop a project specifically around her.
