Vanessa Hudgens in 'Gimme Shelter'Vanessa Hudgens was a "complete disaster" after filming Gimme Shelter.

The 25-year-old actress' friends were left "concerned" for her when she wrapped the movie because she had immersed herself so much into the role of homeless pregnant teenager Apple, she had lost her sense of self and was in "a bit of a mess."

"I didn't really know who I was - Vanessa was gone. I came home and I was a complete disaster. My best friend is still so concerned about me when she thinks about that day because I was just a bit of a mess. I wasn't really comfortable in social situations and my self-esteem was super low 'cause I had no hair and I had put on all this weight, so physically I didn't feel attractive. And I was single."

However, Vanessa had an easy way to feel herself again. When asked what she did to return to herself, she told Flare magazine, "Extensions! Instant confidence boost!"

Vanessa Hudgens on the set of 'Gimme Shelter'Vanessa Hudgens popped the blood vessels in her face while filming a scene where she goes in labor.

The 24-year-old star, who plays a teenage mother Apple Bailey in her forthcoming film Gimmie Shelter, felt both physically and mentally exhausted when she was in character. "Probably the most physical and emotionally draining scene was my birthing scene. I've never shot a birthing scene and I ended up popping blood vessels in my face," she told E! News.

Vanessa formed a strong connection with her alter ego and even found herself feeling strange when Apple's baby was taken away from her after they completed scenes for the movie. "It's odd, it really is. I mean, I totally had a connection with my baby - my movie baby - and I just had so much love for her but afterwards they call 'cut' and take the baby away and I'm just left there hanging," she explained.

The brunette beauty piled on the pounds for the part, but found it harder to lose weight afterwards, despite doing plenty of exercise: "Getting it off was the more difficult part. It was a lot of exercise... Just doing a lot of cardio, a lot of yoga and just really anything active."

Vin Diesel in 'Fast & Furious 6'

Neither magic tricks nor an futuristic-yet-abysmal Will Smith vehicle were enough to bring Fast & Furious 6 down from its number one position. The car thriller held its own in its second week at the theaters with $34.5 million while newcomers Now You See Me and After Earth just couldn't make the cut to the top spot.

The Louis Leterrier-helmed Now You See Me placed second with $28 million while M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth debuted with $27 million (even removing Shyamalan's name from promotional material for the film couldn't guarantee a better debut). Epic stayed put at number four in its second week with $16.4 million while Star Trek Into Darkness fell two spots to number five.
