+ It's a good thing that Jennifer Lawrence's white dress from American Hustle only cost $3.99 for a yard of the fabric: costume designer Michael Wilkinson revealed that the actress got into some trouble eating Doritos while in costume. Yeah, we're not surprised, either.
+ Disney/Marvel announced that the sequel to Thor: The Dark World has been greenlit, adding that Christopher Yost (who co-wrote Thor: The Dark World) and Craig Kyle (who produced both Thor films) are set to write it.
+ Twilight alum Nikki Reed has been cast in horror film Email, which will be set in Singapore. Perhaps this latest American-take-on-Asian-horror project will serve as her springboard onto bigger projects, as it seemed to do for Naomi Watts (almost forgot that she was in The Ring, eh?).

Box Office Breakdown: ‘Hobbit’ Sequel Victorious Over ‘Anchorman 2’

Athough much buzz was drummed up for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (not to mention all the appearances Will Ferrell made as Ron Burgundy for promotional purposes), it was not enough to overshadow the draw of the sequel to last year's The Hobbit.
The latest installment of the Lord of the Rings series took in $31.5 million, securing its second consecutive week at number one. Anchorman 2 took in a respectable $26.7 million in its debut weekend while Frozen fell one spot to number three with $19.6 million. After having been added to more than 2,500 theaters this weekend, American Hustle jumped from #15 to #4 with $19.1 million. Saving Mr. Banks also received quite a bit of help with an increased theater count, taking in $9.3 million to round out the top five.

Box Office Breakdown: ‘Frozen’ Proves No Match for ‘Catching Fire’

Despite an impressive jump from its debut at the twenty-second spot to number two this week, Frozen didn't make enough money to overtake last week's number one winner The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The sequel to The Hunger Games took in $74.5 million, a good $8 million more than Frozen, which earned $66.7 million this weekend. Thor: The Dark World fell one spot to number three with $11.1 million while The Best Man Holiday also fell one spot to number four with $8.4 million. Newcomer Homefront debuted at number five with $6.9 million.

This summer has been good to Vin Diesel. His film Fast & Furious 6 dominated the box office in the beginning of the season, and now Riddick looks to rake in film-goers' cash in the tail end of it.
Earning $19 million secured the sci-fi thriller the top spot while Lee Daniels' The Butler remained at number two with $8.4 million. Instructions Not Included jumped one spot to number three with $8.1 million, bumping We're the Millers down to number four with $7.6 million. Planes stayed at number five with $4.1 million.

Remember when Scarlett Johansson was channelling her inner 90's goddess around Glasgow? Well now you can check out the fruits of her fashionable labor in the trailer for Jonathan Glazer's (Sexy Beast) latest film Under the Skin.
In what looks to be a cross between Silence of the Lambs and a David Lynch film, the sci-fi thriller - set to screen at the Venice Film Festival tomorrow - centers on an alien (Johansson) who preys on victims in the Scottish highlands. The movie, which is adapted from Michel Faber's novel of the same name, premiered in the States at last week's Telluride Film Festival.

The concert documentary - which debuted this Labor Day weekend - took in $17 million, reducing Lee Daniels' The Butler to second place with $14.7 million. We're the Millers also dropped one place - from two to three - with $12.6 million in its fourth week while Planes also fell one spot to number four with $7.7 million. Instructions Not Included debuted in fifth place with $7.5 million.

Review: ‘Post Tenebras Lux’ Lacks Heart, Underwhelms

What I mistook as ambition and mythology for Carlos Reygadas' decision to title his film, Post Tenebras Lux, in Latin ("Light After Darkness") was simply pretentiousness. Though the movie - shot in a 1:33 ratio - was undoubtedly as stunning as a Terrence Malick film, the semi-autobiographic pic was as self-indulgent as a Tyler Perry flick.
The Mexican film - which won the Best Director award at last year's Cannes Film Festival - is comprised of a series of vignettes, mostly centering on the lives of a family who has made the transition from city to country life. Reygadas' meditation on both internal and external human conflicts is too ambitious, resulting in a film lacking cohesion and theme.

Neither magic tricks nor an futuristic-yet-abysmal Will Smith vehicle were enough to bring Fast & Furious 6 down from its number one position. The car thriller held its own in its second week at the theaters with $34.5 million while newcomers Now You See Me and After Earth just couldn't make the cut to the top spot.
The Louis Leterrier-helmed Now You See Me placed second with $28 million while M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth debuted with $27 million (even removing Shyamalan's name from promotional material for the film couldn't guarantee a better debut). Epic stayed put at number four in its second week with $16.4 million while Star Trek Into Darkness fell two spots to number five.

‘Nymphomaniac’ Producer Talks Superimposed Sex Scenes

Little truth has been spilled about Lars von Trier's upcoming film Nymphomaniac, and while many who work on the film would like to keep it that way, its producer Louise Vesth opened up about some of the new techniques the Danish director will be implementing in the sex scenes.
When actor Shia LaBeouf went around claiming that he'd be having real sex on camera, he was only partially correct. Instead, von Trier will film the sex scene twice: once with the actors and again with their doubles. In post-production, the doubles' nether regions will be superimposed onto the actors', making it appear as though they were truly getting physical.
“We shot the actors pretending to have sex and then had the body doubles who really did have sex and in post we will digital impose the two. So above the waist it will be the star and the below the waist it will be the doubles," Vesth explained.
The complicated post-production work cost the film an unveiling at Cannes, but it is expected to hit theaters this December.
