The Real Drama on Supernova
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Rock Star, Gossip,
While watching this week’s elimination round on Rock Star: Supernova— I found my attention drifting from the supposed drama on-stage. Yes, I was curious to see which singer would receive the axe. (Though, at this point….there is still a lot of dead-weight on that show). But for me, the real nail-biter was up in those judge’s chairs. Who cares which singer is the best person to front that soon-to-be-short-lived-band? The most important question was: Which judge was hating life more? Was Dave Navarro secretly wringing his boa because of his breakup with Carmen Electra? Or was Tommy Lee sinking lower in his seat because his ex (Pamela Anderson) is once again engaged to Kid Rock? Some may say that Lee’s history with Pam is so 10 minutes ago while others have already linked Navarro to a new woman. I admit, it’s a close judgment call….but I’m voting for 1-866-TOMMY-LEE. You can’t just marry a woman twice and not want her back a third time.

Jessica Biel and Matthew McConaughey Raise Money via Auctions
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, WB, Talent, News,
It’s nice to see those who have so much giving to others in need. Recently, Jessica Biel, of 7th Heaven, auctioned herself (or rather, a date with her) to benefit a Colorado teen who lost her left leg and part of her pelvis during a prom night accident. The highest bidder paid $30,000 for the date, and the teen in need received the proceeds for her medical expenses. The winner of the auction, identified as John, a senior VP at an oil and gas company in Denver, received a lunch date with Biel. I could joke that she’s not exactly a cheap date, but the effort to raise money for this teenager is admirable.
Matthew McConaughey is also raising money through eBay by auctioning off his 1971 Stingray Corvette to benefit Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims and rebuilding efforts. The proceeds will go to Oprah’s Angel Network, which will take care of distributing the funds. Says McConaughey, “I admire and enjoy this car, but it’s a luxury that I’m willin’ to relinquish at this point because I am fortunate enough to have everythin’ I need, and the sale of it will help so many with the necessities in life, part of stayin’ connected with an on-goin’ cause to help those in need for the long term.” As of Thursday afternoon, the bidding for the blue and white convertible was at $44,100.50. There are 6 days remaining on the auction.

Patricia Wettig Leaving Prison Break?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, FOX, Prison Break, Rumors,
The rumor mill is churning over this latest tidbit—Patricia Wettig, who plays President Caroline Reynolds on Prison Break, will be leaving the upcoming second season of the series. During the TCA Summer Press Tour, Wettig was on hand for ABC’s new series, Brothers & Sisters, and said that she would not be returning to Prison Break. Brothers & Sisters features Calista Flockhart, Balthazar Getty, Ron Rifkin, and Rachel Griffiths, among others. According to the Ausiello Report, Wettig said “I had to make a choice, and it was kind of hard for me to choose against my husband [Brothers & Sisters executive producer Ken Olin] and his good writing.” A Prison Break representative reported that “President Reynolds is still very much a presence [in Season 2] and her influence is felt, but as Patricia is a series regular on Brothers & Sisters, we will not be seeing her, at least in early episodes.” It will be interesting to see what becomes of her character on Prison Break.

Macy’s the Subject of Latest Reality Show
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Cable, Cable/Satellite,
I’m convinced that a reality show can be based on anything these days. Case in point – Unwrapping Macy’s – set to premiere on the Women’s Entertainment (WE) network on September 20th. According to Executive Producer Glenda Hersh, “It’s an adventure with the people who make Macy’s happen every day.” The series was filmed at Macy’s in New York, Florida and Los Angeles. Of course, WE is targeting a female audience with this latest reality show, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the store’s marketing, public relations, fashion and event-planning departments. As an added bonus, viewers will see how the Thanksgiving Day parade and Macy’s catalog are planned. The question is: will women be interested enough in the ins-and-outs of retail to tune it?

Whoopi Goldberg Will Hate Chris Too, This Fall
Posted by Christina Furtado Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, UPN, Everybody Hates Chris, Talent, The CW, News,
This Fall, Whoopi Goldberg will be guest-starring on two episodes of the UPN (or CW by then) Chris Rock comedy Everybody Hates Chris. Word is that she will play a new neighbor of Chris’ (Tyler James Williams) family, and that Chris will fall for her granddaughter.
This could be very good for the show. I hope her name gets a few more people to tune in, because while Chris has been well-received by critics, its ratings were only okay. To make matters worse, it’s going to be buried at the 7 pm Sunday time slot on the CW’s Fall schedule. It is unclear as of yet which two episodes Goldberg will star in, but the show’s season premiere will be on October 1.

Daniel Baldwin Crashes Car, Now Hospitalized
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, Talent, News,
Earlier today, Daniel Baldwin was hospitalized for back and neck injuries after he crashed his car into two parked cars in Los Angeles. The crash resulted after an officer saw Baldwin driving at more than 80 mph and weaving through traffic. The police spokesman reported that “The officer tried to catch up to the Thunderbird, lost sight of it momentarily and came up to a traffic collision where the T-bird had crashed into two parked vehicles. The Thunderbird pushed one of the vehicles about 20 feet, and that was a Hummer.”
Baldwin, age 45, is of course the brother of Alec, Stephen and William Baldwin, and has appeared on Homicide: Life on the Street and Celebrity Fit Club. Baldwin faces a number of charges, including reckless driving and driving with a suspended license. Police will press additional charges if he is found to have been intoxicated at the time of the incident. No other injuries were reported.

Raven-Symone To Star in Adventures in Babysitting Remake
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Kids, Rumors,
Raven Symone, of Disney’s “That’s So Raven” (or for those of us a bit older, “The Cosby Show”), is set to star in a remake of 80’s film Adventures in Babysitting.
The original film - Chris Columbus’s directorial debut - starred Elisabeth Shue of Cocktail and Leaving Las Vegas, for which she won an Academy Award. Shue’s character, babysitter Chris Parker, brings her three charges on an unexpected trip to the city where, of course, hijinks ensue. Chris and the kids find themselves in a series of predicaments including a flat tire, a domestic dispute, a run-in with some car thiefs, a musical interlude at a blues club, a knife fight on the subway, a fraternity party, and even a little-girl-scales-skyscraper incident - all the while avoiding the children’s parents, who just happen to be partying nearby.
In addition to Shue, a lot of famous faces appeared in the original film, including Penelope Ann Miller (Carlito’s Way), Vincent D’Onofrio (“Law and Order: Criminal Intent”), Bradley Whitford (“The West Wing”), and Anthony Rapp (Dazed and Confused and A Beautiful Mind). Shue’s brother, Andrew Shue of “Melrose Place”, also appeared as an extra.
The new version - which will star Raven in Shue’s role - was scripted by David Stem and David Weiss, of Nickelodeon’s “Rugrats” and “Jimmy Neutron”, as well as Shrek 2. The film is rumored to be ready for release in 2008.
A previous attempt at remaking Adventures in Babysitting failed in the form of a 1989 unsold TV pilot starring Joey Lawrence (of “Blossom” and “American Dreams”) and Brian Austin Green (of “Beverly Hills, 90210” and “Freddie”).

Entourage: Three’s Company
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, HBO, Entourage, Features,
The boys interrupt Drama from a day parked in front of a video game. Although he still hasn’t heard from Ari, his new supposed agent, he agrees to go out with the crew. Apparently the brothers are 0-for-2 when it comes to Ari calls. Vince hasn’t heard a peep since he told off Alan Gray, the President of Warner Bros.
During their night out, Eric runs into his girlfriend, Sloane. The guys are a bit weirded out that a girl has invaded their group, but Sloane swears their meeting was a mere coincidence. She is actually meeting up with a girlfriend from out of town. When Vince is later approached by a girl from his past, it is clear that the boys night out is now officially over. Ari takes his turn interrupting their evening when he calls Eric with ‘big’ news: Alan has agreed to bump up Vince’s paycheck to $10 million. Unfortunately, Eric and Vince are not impressed with the ‘liar’ and insist on holding out for the requested $20 million. Ari warns them not to get on Alan’s bad side…right before Eric hangs up. Vince is too busy going home with his lady friend to be fazed by Ari’s call, but Johnny is still feeling neglected. Thankfully, Drama’s mood is temporarily lifted when Sloane’s friend, Tori, finally arrives at their table.

ABC Fixes Lost, Desperate Housewives
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Desperate Housewives, Lost,
ABC Entertainment president Stephen McPherson promises that the upcoming seasons of Desperate Housewives and Lost won’t disappoint. Speaking to Housewives, he said that series’ creator Marc Cherry has “taken over 100 percent of the show-running and that’s been a terrific change. The early scripts and the storylines and the arcs and the mystery, I think, are a lot stronger from the get-go next season.” I certainly hope so – season two was a major disappointment, but I hung in there in the hopes that it would improve. I stayed until the bitter end, which is more than some fans did. Here’s hoping Cherry’s involvement will keep the interesting storylines coming and character development moving along.
Lost, which has not stumbled in the least (in my opinion) on character and plot, did receive some grumbling from fans about the second season’s stop-and-start schedule. With mid-season repeats upsetting the flow, it was a frustrating wait for each new episode. McPherson says that a new scheduling plan will help – Lost begins on October 4th, then runs for six straight weeks when Day Break, a new detective drama, takes the time slot. Returning again in February, the final episodes of Lost will play uninterrupted. J.J. Abrams is also expected to increase his involvement in the series, and may even direct some episodes. Says McPherson of the scheduling, “We’ve just really listened to the audience about the repeats, and it felt like this was really the best way to run the show. It’s a very, very difficult show to produce. You know, if we could run 22 straight in the fall, we probably would. But we just can’t get the shows done in that amount of time.”

Now Available from Netflix: NBC’s New Shows
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Internet, News,
NBC announced that it will be offering a preview of two of their new shows to Netflix subscribers this summer. Taking a different approach to promoting their new series, NBC will offer Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Kidnapped a full six weeks in advance of their fall premiere on the network. Netflix subscribers can view the first episodes of the shows, as well as previews for the other NBC series on the 2006/2007 lineup. It seems like it could be a fairly successful endeavor – with over 5 million Netflix subscribers out there, it’s likely that the response to these episodes will be favorable. The shows will be available on August 5th. Hey, it beats the marketing genius of promoting your network on eggs!
