On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

William FichtnerThe Hollywood Reporter announced that William Fichtner will be joining the cast of Prison Break for season 2. You may remember Fichtner from ABC’s short-lived Invasion, or perhaps you’ve seen him in one of his many film roles (Go, Crash, Black Hawk Down, Contact, among others.) His new gig on Prison Break as a federal agent will have him hunting down the newly escaped Prison Break gang. In case you’re drawing a blank about who Fichtner is, take a gander at his pic—“ohhh, that guy.” Personally, I had to check out his IMDB profile to realize I had seen him in a lot of different movies.

Britney Because here at TV Envy, we can’t talk enough about Britney Spears, here is my contribution to the latest round of gossip about her.  According to Page Six, Britney was apparently Dateline NBC personnel were shocked when they showed up at her Malibu mansion for Matt Lauer’s interview with her and found her alone, without either of her publicists.  Even worse still, Brit insisted on doing her own hair and makeup, which looked horrible; one of her fake eyelashes even fell off when she started crying during the interview.  As the picture at right shows, her wardrobe choice was also regrettable, to say the least.  In addition, without her publicists there to act as watchdogs, no one could take control of the situation when Matt asked what it was like to fall in love with Kevin Federline when Shar Jackson was carrying his child, leading Britney to compare her marriage to that of Julia Roberts and and Danny Moder:  “Julia Roberts’ husband had a pregnant wife when he hooked up with Julia, but no one ever talked about that!”

When asked why Britney was allowed to field the interview on her own, one of her publicists, Sloane Zelnick,  “Britney is a grown-up and makes her own decisions.”  An ironic statement, given the fact that Britney seems to fall apart (literally! the eyelash falling off seems almost symbolic of her life) without her entourage.  Maybe they’ve given up on her, given her recent spate of bad press about her bad childcare habits, crumbling marriage, etc.  I actually feel bad for her, or at least as bad as I can feel for a multi-millionare.  She’s been famous from a relatively young age, and so has never been forced to take the reins of her own life.  Now that people seem to be abandoning her to her fate, she’s going to have to learn to do that.  I wish her well, if not for her own sake, then for the sake of little Sean Preston and the one on the way.  Meanwhile—Brit, find a stylist, quick!

Janice DickinsonAfter being ousted from Tyra Banks’s show America’s Next Top Model, Janice Dickinson has struck back with her own show and it ain’t pretty. The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency which premiered on Oxygen earlier this month, shows a darker, harsher side of modeling than most people get to see.

One episode shows a group of genetically-superior men and women stripping down to their skivvies and subjecting themselves to criticism from Dickinson and her staff.  The better-looking contestants were rewarded with smiley-face stickers – the less fortunate ones were given frown-faces and drawn on with magic marker – but none were safe from Dickinson’s verbal abuse. Later in the same episode, she instructed another young woman that she needed to have a nose job (and even set up an appointment for a consultation).

Dickinson herself is a terror; the moods keep swinging and insults keep flying. But while her personality is a lot to take, she does know her stuff. She’s all too familiar with the unforgiving nature of the industry and has a keen instinct for a model’s marketability.

Dickinson claims to be the “world’s first supermodel” but many would argue otherwise. While she did have a extensive modeling career as a household name, many others came before her including Lisa Fonssagrives, a model whose career began in the 1930s. According to Wikipedia, she appeared in nearly every fashion magazine of that era and graced the cover of Vogue over 200 times. (Dickinson only had that honor 37 times). Top models such as Twiggy, Beverly Johnson, and Verushka were household names way before Dickinson became famous.

The real difference between Dickinson and the women who came before her comes down to money. She was one of the first models to push for the top pay that supermodels receive and she still possesses that lethal combination of confidence, cunning, and nerve. Hopefully for her, it’ll be enough to keep people watching.

Sesame StreetStarting August 14, Sesame Street, in its 37th season, will introduce its first new female muppet in 13 years.  Her name is Abby Cadabby.  According to a press release from the Sesame Workshop, “Abby, whose catchphrase is ‘that’s so magic,’ is a pink “fairy-in-training” who uses rhyme and magic to express herself – a youngster who knows just enough about magic to get herself in a jam but not always enough to get out of trouble.”  The new season’s episodes will also include guest spots from the likes of Jamie Foxx, John Legend, Matt Lauer, Amy Sedaris, Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight.

I don’t know, but it seems a little late for Sesame Street to be jumping on the Harry Potter bandwagon.  And, clearly, “that’s so magic” is just a rip-off of That’s So Raven.  Is there no originality in children’s television programming anymore?

Britney LindsayFor those of you who didn’t already know, Britney Spears has given up the Kabballah for motherhood. Apparently now that Britney has a child, a freeloading husband, a possible upcoming divorce settlement, and a dwindling income, she can no longer afford to give the kind of donations the Kabbalah Centre expects from members with her level of celebrity. Of course, this couldn’t have been good news to Madonna – who introduced her to the group in 2003 and apparently invested quite a bit of time and money in her protégée. The two became close working together on the duet “Me Against the Music” and – most famously – locking lips at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Madonna has already found a new ingénue to take Brit’s place: actress Lindsay Lohan. The star of Mean Girls and Herbie Fully Loaded has apparently been looking into the religion, and I’m sure the Material Girl will be happy to guide her on an upcoming journey to the Holy Land. A film or musical collaboration is likely coming next.

It’s no secret that Lindsay’s acting resume clearly puts Britney’s to shame – Crossroads anyone? – but her 2004 debut musical release Speak was a surprise hit.

Have no fear for Brit though. Maybe Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt can give her some acting advice now that she is considering following in their footsteps and delivering her second child in Namibia.

DAVID SCHWIMMERDavid Schwimmer, who played Ross on Friends, is making good money without having to read any lines.  Schwimmer’s publicist announced Friday that the actor was awarded $400,000 in a defamation suit.  It was brought against a former celebrity fundraiser who told a tabloid newspaper that Schwimmer requested two Rolex watches in exchange for appearing at an event.  E! News reports that the former Friends star said fundraiser Aaron Tonken was “a scheming pathological liar” and accused him of being “bent on castigating Schwimmer and other celebrities by concocting bogus stories…in an effort to justify [his] own deceit and lies.”

Since Friends ended, Schwimmer has been appearing in Neil LaBute’s Some Girls in London.  He came back state-side recently and opened on Broadway in The Caine Mutiny Court Martial. And yes, that was Schwimmer’s voice in the 2005 movie Madagascar where he played Melman, a giraffe.

Ketherine HeiglIzzy may have lost fiance, Denny Duquette, during the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy—but you can be assured that actress Katherine Heigl is not spending her time mourning.  People Magazine has exclusively confirmed that Heigl is now engaged to her boyfriend, 25-year-old musician Josh Kelley.  The two met last year when Katherine, 27, appeared in Josh’s music video for “Only You”.  What followed next can be ripped out of a former model-meets-musician playbook.  No date for the nuptials has been announced yet.
