Nip/Tuck in LA: Did You Like The Move?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, FX, Nip/Tuck, Editorial,
When Sean and Christian made the move to LA at the end of last season, I was a bit worried. After several successful years in Miami, would this be the time when Nip/Tuck officially jumped the shark? But after watching the Season 5 premiere, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the reinvigorated series. A change in location was exactly what the show - and the viewers - needed.
For those who didn’t get to watch last night’s episode (or completely disagree with me altogether), let me tell you what I loved about the debut.

- Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30): “Sam assumes her role as a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding, but upon arriving, she learns that the friend does not want her there.” If only she knew that before she paid for the dress.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards Coverage

The 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast. Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)? Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)? Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?
What a difference a year makes. Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now). Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best Comedy. Last year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien. This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest. Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama. This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).
I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight. We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…
Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!

Renewals Aplenty at FX
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Nip/Tuck, Cable/Satellite, DVR, Ratings, Renewals,
At least there’s one network that’s not so quick to cancel every new series. FX has announced that freshman series Dirt and The Riches will both be back for a second run. While I couldn’t get into Dirt, it seems to get solid ratings (and that kiss between Courteney Cox-Arquette and Jennifer Aniston probably didn’t hurt either). I couldn’t wait to see The Riches because I’m a huge fan of Eddie Izzard, however, I haven’t had the time to keep up. Thank goodness for DVR! After watching the first two episodes, I’ve been recording the others and will have a bunch of episodes to catch up on once all of the other season finales are over with. FX president John Landgraf commented, “FX now has six original dramas, more than any network in the history of cable television, cementing the network’s status as a leader in quality original series.” Dirt pulled in about 5.2 million vieweres per week, while The Riches drew 5.9 million. Rescue Me returns on June 13th, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia comes back for season three in September, and new seasons of Nip/Tuck and 30 Days will come later in the year.

Richard Chamberlain on Nip/Tuck
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FX, Nip/Tuck, Talent,
Adored by millions of women during the height of the 80’s, actor Richard Chamberlain will soon be playing a character he can more closely relate to: a gay man. Once known for his leading-man status in epic mini-series events (Shogun, The Thorn Birds), Chamberlain will now be playing a cameo role next season on Nip/Tuck. Chamberlain, 72, will appear as a wealthy businessman who wants to make over his younger boyfriend. This will be the first homosexual role for Chamberlain, who came out of the closet in real life back in 2003. The fourth season of Nip/Tuck is currently scheduled to premiere on Sept. 16.

Big Names Coming to FX’s Nip/Tuck

FX’s Nip/Tuck will have a good list of guest stars this season including Larry Hagman, Kathleen Turner and Brooke Shields who will appear on the FX show throughout the year. A former Dallas star, Hagman will play the much older husband to Sanaa Lathan’s character. Turner will play the part of Cindy Plumb, a phone sex operator who comes to McNamara/Troy to get live life back into her vocal cords. New mom Shields will be in the season opener as a shrink in whom Julian McMahon’s character confides. Nip/Tuck Season 4 starts later this fall on FX.

Nip/Tuck Doctors Get More Dollars
Posted by Jill Tecler Categories: Prime Time, Cable, Nip/Tuck, Talent,
Lucky for Dr. Christian Troy and Dr. Sean McNamara that the villainous Carver’s reach was unable to get to their bank accounts. Yesterday, cable network FX announced that in light of Nip/Tuck’s record ratings last season, series stars Julian McMahon and Dylan Walsh will both be awarded with substantial raises this year, bringing their total earnings for the upcoming fourth season to close to $1.8 million each. While the specifics related to the dollar amount have not been confirmed, it’s believed that this increase is almost twice as much as each actor received for the third season, where memorable moments outside of the Carver included the return of Gina, a pregnant Mrs. Santa Claus, ax-wielding Mr. Alderman and a gorilla named Kiki.

Nip/Tuck Reveals Identity Of The Carver To Disgruntled Fans
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Nip/Tuck,
Groans were heard all over TV land when the Carver was unmasked on Tuesday’s episode of Nip/Tuck. For the most part, fans appeared disappointed with the all-too-predictable choice of villain. Turns out, just about anyone would have been more interesting. A much bigger shocker was the psychotic behavior of Ariel’s father, who seemed just as vicious as The Carver ever did. Some things most fans seemed to like were the return of Cherry Peck, the reconciliation of Julia and Sean, Christian’s show of loyalty to his partner and best friend, and Matt’s stepping away from the dark side. Although The Carver was revealed, Nip/Tuck couldn’t leave the viewers with looming questions. Alas, we have to wait until next season to find out: Will Kimber change her mind? What is wrong with Julia’s baby? Did Matt and Cherry really commit murder? Disappointments aside, this is one show viewers will be tuning in to next season.
Nip/Tuck To Reveal Identity Of The Carver
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Prime Time, Cable, Nip/Tuck,
Finally. The moment Nip/Tuck fans have been waiting two whole seasons for: the identity of The Carver will be revealed Tuesday, December 20th. The Carver, a serial rapist/murderer, has aimed most of his crimes at Sean McNamara and Christian Troy, plastic surgeons who provide the ‘beauty’ that The Carver despises. It’s not only the suspense that will have fans tuning in to FX at 10p.m. for the two hour season finale. Many of the show’s watchers are simply weary of the story line, and are eager for it to be over. So much of the show has focused on The Carver lately that many people feel the best characters are being overlooked. Whatever your motivation, be sure to tune in to FX for the big reveal.
A Snow Job On Nip/Tuck
Posted by Rhys Alexander Categories: Prime Time, Cable, Nip/Tuck, Talent,
The adorable Brittany Snow will began her guest appearance spot on Nip/Tuck last night as a new love interest for Matt. Fans who are used to Snow’s sweet, well-scrubbed, character Meg on American Dreams are in for quite a shock. As a young woman with extreme views, Snow’s Nip/Tuck persona, Ariel, will lead the troubled Matt into even darker waters.
