Reality News: ‘WWE’, ‘Big Brother’, ‘Dancing with the Stars’, ‘Survivor’

After ten years with the CW/UPN organizations, the wrestlers of the WWE are now in search of a new home. Friday Night Smackdown - a decent ratings earner for the network - wasn’t apparently considered worthy of its renewal price. Displeased with recent negotiations, World Wrestling Entertainment has started shopping its product around town.
Although the loss of the show will now create a two-hour void in CW‘s weekend lineup, the network will now have a place to shelve their experiments gone wrong (e.g. Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants). Or maybe they can use the spot to air marathons of America’s Next Top Model or Beauty and the Geek?
Whatever they ultimately do, they have until Sept. 12th to figure it out.

For the latest round of Survivor, CBS decided to spice things up a bit and incorporated a little old with the new. In this installment, ten die-hard fans will be competing against ten former contestants. Last night, we saw the debut of Survivor: Micronesia – otherwise known as ‘Fans vs. Favorites’.
The premiere episode kicked off with the newbies arriving by boat to a rain-soaked island. After a quick welcome by Jeff Probst, the unsuspecting participants learned the cold, hard truth: they were going to compete against seasoned pros.

Tamara Braun, Ex-Carly from ‘General Hospital’ Joins ‘Days Of Our Lives’
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Daytime, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, CBS, NBC, General Hospital,
It sure pays to play a Carly on ABC’s General Hospital. Yet another ex-Carly returns to the soap opera world tomorrow, this time on NBC’s Days of Our Lives.
Tamara Braun, who played Carly Benson-Roberts Corinthos on General Hospital from 2001-2005 arrives in Salem on Friday, February 8.
Braun’s character is Ava, described as a ‘mystery woman’ from Steve “Patch” Johnson’s past. If history is any indication, Days fans should warm up to her fast.
When Tamara Braun joined ABC’s General Hospital in 2001 she took over the role of a pivotal, established character. The actress who originated Carly in the 90’s, Sarah Brown was and still is a fan favorite. Brown just returned to Port Charles in an entirely new role as Claudia Zacchara.

With Survivor: Micronesia days away from debut, CBS has already moved on to its programming future. Realizing their aging reality show is still a ratings hit, the network has just announced they’ll be bringing it back for more. This means we will see two more installments of this Mark Burnett production following the ‘Fans vs. Favorites’ version premiering next month. And, of course, the dimpled Jeff Probst will be there to guide us to the end.
If you want to start prepping your next Survivor pool now, you can get a rundown of the contestants here. In the meantime, set your Tivos for Thursday, Feb. 7th @ 8pm.

2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Thanks to the cancelation of the Golden Globes ceremony, the hottest ticket in town was tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Without a picket line to cross, celebrities from TV and Film were allowed to celebrate - and commiserate - together for the first time in a long while.
For star-deprived fans, the SAG red carpet was also a treat for sore eyes. What were our favorite actresses wearing? What were the latest trends? Which dresses were going to be copied by Allen Schwartz tomorrow?
Unfortunately, the evening was not all about partying. The recent deaths of Suzanne Pleshette and Heath Ledger cast a somber tone on what would normally be a festive occasion. Thankfully, tonight was not about dissecting their lives, but merely about honoring them.
Meanwhile, the neglected winners of this month’s Globes were also hoping to get a share of the honors. If they were able to pull off another victory tonight, maybe they would have a chance to give the speech they already had written.
Well, without further ado, here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the fashionably late West Coast!

Daytime Dish: ‘GH’, ‘One Life to Live’, ‘As The World Turns’

Sarah Brown, the first of four actresses to play the role of Carly Corinthos, will be making a return to General Hospital. Interestingly enough, she won’t be there to take her old spot back (like Rebecca Budig recently did on All My Children). Brown will be making a splashy entrance as an entirely new character: Claudia Zacchara, mobster Johnny’s sister. (Don’t try and question how this could happen; Kelly Monaco played a different character on the vampire-filled Port Charles before she became Sam on the bloodsucker-less GH.)
Sarah, who originated the role of Carly back in 1996 (she left in 2001), will not only have a juicy face-to-face with the current Carly (played by Laura Wright), she’ll have a heated encounter of the bedroom kind with her old hubby, Sonny Corinthos. I can’t wait! Brown currently has a one-year contract with the daytime drama and is scheduled to make her debut on Thursday, Jan. 31.

The Amazing Race 12: “The Final Push”
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Amazing Race, The, Features,
Season 12 of The Amazing Race started with 11 teams…and in tonight’s finale, we were down to the last three. Since their start way back in Los Angeles, CA, the remaining groups had traveled approximately 30,000 miles and reached four different continents.
Still in the race were Christina/Ronald (the father/daughter team once known for ugly criticisms from daddy); TK/Rachel (the Hippies who were always very chill and pleasant with each other) and Nicolas/Donald (the grandfather/grandson duo with the oldest competitor to make it to the Final Three).

Amazing Race Team Update: Nate and Jen
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Amazing Race, The,
At the end of the last Amazing Race leg, Nathan and Jennifer ended the episode on an unclear note. Did the volatile couple break up or not? Well, for those of you concerned/indifferent/thinking evil thoughts about the status of their relationship, we now have our answer. Drum roll please. They’re still together! (Cue head shaking now.)
The team I personally loved-to-hate revealed to TV Guide that after a little time apart, they realized they truly did love each other. (In other words, they knew others would struggle to find them appealing once the series premiered.) Apparently you only hurl insults at those you love.
In the online interview, we also learned other interesting tidbits about their experience (and costly decisions) during the race. Why did they opt to take the subway instead of a cab in Taipei? (They wanted to trust the locals.) How long did it take to push that donkey along the trail? (A whopping four hours.) Why did Jen hate TK and his dreads so much? (That answer was a little unclear. I believe it’s because she’s simply a whiner.)

The Amazing Race 12: “Sorry, Guys, I’m Not Happy to See You”
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Amazing Race, The,
Since the racers had traveled a whopping 4,000 miles to get their last pit stop, the producers of The Amazing Race decided to stick with Osaka, Japan for just a little while longer. To start the 10th leg of the competition, the teams had to first travel by taxi to the the building ‘with the hole in it’ (the Umeda Sky building). Once there, they had to locate the ‘Floating Garden’.
The first three groups (Christina/Ronald, Nate/Jen, Nicolas/Donald) kicked off the race within minutes of each other. Standing by were TK and Rachel. The losers in last week’s non-elimination round had to wait a whole three hours before they could proceed. Luckily for them, access to the garden wasn’t available until 10am —approximately three hours after this leg started. In other words, a huge chunk of time had already been erased for the hippies before the day had even begun.

CBS Adds Showtime’s ‘Dexter’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Cable, CBS, Showtime,
The writers’ strike has forced the networks to creatively fill their programming gaps. Some shows have been brought back earlier than planned (e.g. Big Brother) while others are airing multiple times a week (e.g. House). Then there are those networks who have sister channels to steal from. Thanks to NBC’s relationship with the USA Network, Law and Order: Criminal Intent was available to occupy an open Wednesday time slot. Now CBS will be adopting the same recycling strategy to beef up their Sunday nights.
Starting next month, the Eye network will re-air episodes of Showtime’s Dexter. Fortunately for CBS, the series about a forensics expert who moonlights as a vigilante serial killer already had a syndication version in the making. (Think Sex and the City on TBS.) Although many worry the Michael C. Hall vehicle will lose its edge under the editing scalpel, the show’s graphic content is supposedly on par with other network programs.
Look for the sanitized updates to hit the airwaves on February 17.
