America’s Got Talent Crowns Winner
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, NBC,
OK, so I couldn’t stomach the drawn out finale of America’s Got Talent—with promises of a performance by The Hoff (see creepy pic, right), I’m sure I’m not the only one who tuned out. But at the end of it all, only one talented American was left standing… and that honor goes to… Terry Fator! I know! The puppet dude won the whole kit and kaboodle. I was more than a little surprised, but I haven’t been following along to see if his talent truly eclipsed the other finalists. I’m just surprised that the voting audience would select a ventriloquist. He was up against reggae singer Cas Haley, beatboxer Butterscotch and country singer Julienne Irwin. Fator is one lucky guy, nabbing a million-dollar prize and giving ventriloquists everywhere a reason to continue with their craft. I’m not knocking them, but I would have thought this was a dying art. He also gets to headline at Bally’s Resort in Vegas, so that’s no chump change either. Also pretty cool? Fator got to do a duet with none other than Kermit the Frog, who is one of my most beloved Muppets. No, seriously, I’ve seen every Muppet movie countless times and had Kermit and Miss Piggy sheets and comforter when I was a kid. Sadly, that’s no joke. At any rate, congrats to Terry Fator!

Janeane Garofalo Joins ‘24’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Prime Time, FOX, NBC, 24, West Wing, The, Announcements,
Janeane Garofalo (Ratatouille, The Truth About Cats and Dogs) will once again channel her serious side and enter the world of TV politics. The actress-comedian brought her signature snarky flair to NBC’s The West Wing and now she’ll (hopefully!) do the same for Fox’s 24.
Garofalo will star in the show’s seventh season as the requisite government agent who investigates Jack Bauer’s latest crisis. I am regrettably doubtful - but seriously hopeful - that she can help bring the show a much-needed spark. Season 6 was such a ridiculous bore that I can’t even remember how it ended.
Those needing to review last year’s recaps (like me) have until September 10th to get all caught up.

‘Heroes’ Welcomes Veronica Mars
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, NBC, The CW, Heroes, Lost, Announcements,
Kristen Bell, star of the now-defunct Veronica Mars, has found a new home on NBC’s Heroes. She accepted the role after weighing another offer to be on ABC’s Lost. Is she that
good? Apparently she smartly realized that it was best to join a series that was still on an upswing.
While Bell’s character, Elle, is still a bit of a mystery…we do know that she has ties to Peter, H.R.G and Claire. We also know that she will have a power. Having never been a viewer of her old show, I really know nothing about Bell—aside from her horrible rendition of ‘Fame’ on the 2005 Emmys. Here’s to hoping her presence will not come with an equally loud thud.
Expect to see the addition of Elle this October.

Trump’s Celebrity Stable
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald, Rumors,
Though NBC canceled Donald Trump’s Apprentice, you just can’t keep the Donald down. Here’s what happened: NBC, who is failing miserably in the ratings department, canceled the Apprentice. Evidently, they realized the small ratings they were getting from the reality show was reason enough to stick – so they cancelled the cancellation. This time, Trump’s idea is to use celebrities. Recently, Trump told the New York Post that he’s in negotiations with Britney Spears. Kimora Lee Simmons, Carmen Electra, Joan Rivers, Naomi Judd, and George Foreman are already part of the reality cast. Trump also said that Paris Hilton wants to be involved, but he doesn’t know if they’re going to add her to the cast or not.

Jimmy Fallon’s Gettin’ Hitched
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Gossip,
A sad, salty tear just streamed down my face when I read that my sweet Jimmy Fallon got engaged. I don’t know why I’ve been holding out hope that he would consider me. Heck, I’m married, so I don’t even know why I feel like my heart has been trampled upon. Seriously though, Fallon has always been a favorite of mine, but I’m a sucker for a funny guy (Jon Stewart, Paul Rudd and David Duchovny have a special place in my heart). Jimmy, who you may recall from Saturday Night Live and later, films Taxi and Fever Pitch, popped the question to Fever Pitch producer Nancy Jovonen last weekend—at sunset on a dock at Lake Winnepesaukee. That just happens to be where On Golden Pond was filmed, and incidentally, is just a great name to say outloud. Blah, blah, blah… he gave her some amazing ring and then, my heart snapped in half as I tried to deal with the fact that I’m losing Jimmy forever. Back to reality, Fallon is also rumored to replace Conon O’Brien on Late Night when O’Brien moves over to the Tonight Show in 2009. All I know is that I expect to see Fallon show up on an episode of 30 Rock this season—how great would that be?
‘America’s Got Talent’ and ‘Last Comic Standing’ Renewed
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Music, Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Renewals,
I finally caught America’s Got Talent for the first time, and only because an area a cappella group, The Fault Line, managed to land in the semi-finals. Yep, I thought I should watch and give my support—after all, I did see them perform in the food court of the local mall. Imagine if they won… I’d be, like, famous by association or proximity… or… oh, wait. They didn’t make it to the finals, so now my hopes of semi-fame are up in smoke. And do I continue to watch the show? Nope. The Hoff is creepy and Sharon Osbourne is nothing without her incoherent husband and annoying kids by her side. Fear not though, the talent competition has been renewed for next summer, thus making producer Simon Cowell just that much richer. Also joining the summer renewals is Last Comic Standing, which had me tuning in hit-or-miss the first few seasons and then lost me entirely this season. According to Craig Plestis, NBC’s executive vice president of alternative programming, “Both of these innovative series have proven to be summer staples and important franchises for NBC. We have the most-watched show in America’s Got Talent and one of the most upscale series in Last Comic Standing, and now viewers can look forward to seeing these popular brand series with fresh new shows again next summer.” America’s Got Talent airs live on August 21; Last Last Comic Standing will air the season finale live on September 19.

Jenna Fischer Healing After Spill
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, The Office,
You may recall awhile ago that The Office star Jenna Fischer injured her back when she fell down a flight of stairs after an NBC party in May. She hurt herself so bad—fracturing four vertebrae—that she has spent the entire summer getting better. According to Fischer, “I’m still sore. I have good days and so-so days. I’m definitely able to work.” Good thing, because production for the next season of The Office begins on Monday. Luckily, her role as a receptionist allows the actress plenty of time to stay seated—and the show even got her a variety of new chairs to choose from. It’s the least they could do, I suppose, but she’s still got some healing time ahead of her. She told People magazine, “I’m not allowed to start physical therapy yet. The bones have to completely heal first. I start physical therapy in about three weeks.” After a summer off of her feet, you can bet that the cutie actress is ready to get back to 100%. Being on a hit show, no doubt, dulls any pain—mind over matter—she just has to keep her mind on the paychecks and fame and she’ll be back to herself in no time.

This Year’s Emmy Nominations for News
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, ABC, Cable, CBS, HBO, NBC, PBS,
It’s the biggest thing in television, and a great pat on the back – the annual Emmy nominations. The 28th News and Documentary Emmy Awards nominees this year were outshined by PBS, a network that received 22 nominations to CBS’s 19, ABC’s 15, and NBC with 14. PBS is in the running for the honor with Nature, POV, American Experience, and Nova. CBS garnered the largest chunk of nominations for segments of 60 Minutes, while NBC got nine of its nominations from NBC Nightly News With Brian Williams. CNN and HBO each received six nominations, with five apiece going to Cinemax and the History Channel. FOX News Channel wasn’t in the competition – the network was too busy pushing its conservative agenda. At a ceremony in New York City, the winners will be announced September 24, 2007.

Posh Gets Poor Reality Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, NBC, Gossip, Ratings,
Bad reviews and minimal viewers after Monday night’s reality extravaganza of Victoria Beckham (former Spice Girl and wife of soccer star David Beckham) could signal the beginning of the end for Posh’s reality dreams. The New York Post called Beckham herself “vapid and condescending” and the show “an orgy of self-indulgence.” There aren’t a whole lot of places to go with any show, after that. Victoria Beckham: Coming to America is yet another attempt from NBC to bring in more viewers, and though almost five million tuned in to see Posh Spice house-hunt, drive an American vehicle, and learn about earthquake safety, more people watched re-runs on both ABC and CBS.

NBC Looking for Success (Again) with The Donald
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Apprentice, The - Donald, Gossip, Renewals,
NBC, the fourth-place station that’s willing to try anything to boost dismal ratings, will use celebs to tempt viewers into a new season of Trump’s The Apprentice. Rosie O’Donnell’s spokesperson has said Rosie will not be involved with the show – ever. The Apprentice will come back next year at mid-season with the winning celebrity donating their winnings to charity, instead of working for Trump. So, basically, it’s a huge waste of time for all parties, and just the latest terrible idea to come out of desperate-for-viewers NBC. The Apprentice was actually canceled…but seriously, what else has NBC got these days? So it’s back. And that’s that. Donald suggested extending the invitation to Rosie to join the cast, an idea that O’Donnell’s publicist shut down cold. Rosie is, however, in talks with NBC to consider doing another project. No celebs have yet been attached to this latest Apprentice project – yet, how could they resist the allure of appearing on the lowest-ranking network? Gee, I wonder how this new season of The Apprentice will do with fans.
