Project Runway Leaves Bravo
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Bravo, Cable, News,
I guess we won’t be tuning into Bravo to ‘watch what happens’ on Project Runway anymore.
While everyone has been busy wondering whether Scrubs would jump ship to ABC, another big deal was being brokered over in cable-land. Come this fall, we will have to program in a new channel on our DVRs: the Lifetime channel.
In a surprise move, The Weinstein Co. has made a five-year deal with the female-oriented network to start airing the hit reality show come this November. Needless to say, NBC (Bravo’s parent company) is not pleased with this decision. The company has filed suit in a desperate attempt to keep their ratings cash cow in place.
The program about fashion designers - hosted by Heidi Klum - will be heading into its sixth season at the end of this year.

NBC Lays Out Fall Schedule

Last week, NBC‘s programming chief got a jump start on the competition by revealing his company’s calendar for next year. In addition to the fall lineup, the programming schedule through Summer 2009 was revealed.
Of all the interesting notes, I actually found it quite refreshing to hear that the network will be working to keep the 8 o’clock time slot a “family hour”. (In other words, they’ll put the most family friendly things they have - whether they really should be watched by children or not - during that portion of the evening.) After the kids are put to bed, NBC will then kick things up a notch with an hour of “blockbuster” programming then sixty minutes of adult-themed content.

This Week on TV (4/7-4/13)

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)
MONDAY (4/7)
- Today (NBC, 10am): Kathie Lee Gifford returns to morning TV this week. And I thought the New Kids were getting old.
- Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30pm): New episode. “Samantha has to move back into the apartment when she learns that she could be evicted for subletting it to Todd.” The girlfriend you hate gets amnesia and you get to keep her apartment. Todd has seriously been getting off easy so far.
- The Bachelor (ABC, 10pm): “It’s an afternoon of tennis and tea for six of the ladies.” I’ve seen what an afternoon of women’s tennis can look like on The Real Housewives of NYC. This won’t end pretty.
- Medium (NBC, 10pm): “Rosanna Arquette stars as an older seductress linked to the brutal murders of two younger men.” Maybe it’s best her relationship with Paul McCartney fizzled out.

New Kids to Reunite on Today Show
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Talk Shows, NBC, Gossip,
After months of speculation, it looks as if it is now finally official. The New Kids on the Block are reuniting.
Yes, yes - we’ve already seen their website and heard a snippet from one of their possible new songs. But until all five boys are together once again in front of the cameras, it just doesn’t seem real. Ya know?
Well, the matter will be settled once and for all this Friday morning when the gang - Danny, Donnie, Joey, Jonathan and Jordan - make an appearance on the Today show. Although it’s unclear from People magazine’s report whether the men will be singing and/or just standing in their ‘courtyard’, I’ll be sure to set my Tivo regardless. (As much as I would like to see them, I refuse to get up that early.)

More TV, Less Singing For Britney Spears?
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Music, Prime Time, CBS, NBC, Gossip,
Could recovering pop wreck Britney Spears become a fixture on network television?
The New York Post reports that even though Spears is back in the studio working on a new album, her father/conservator Jamie is hoping she’ll phase out her music career and focus on television instead. (I think it is just smart business to accept that eventually people won’t want to see a 40-ish woman in a bustier gyrating to breathy dance songs. Wait a minute, Madonna still does it. Never mind.)
A Spears insider told the Post’s Page Six that Jamie wants his daughter to have a more normal 9-5 job to keep her working and out of trouble. The Spears camp was well-pleased with her cameo on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother. That appearance got the show its highest ratings ever. Set insiders say Spears was professional and friendly. They also say her comedic timing and ability to improv were surprisingly good. There is even talk Britney Spears may be asked back for another spot on How I Met Your Mother.

MONDAY (3/17)
- Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm): Tonight’s Season 6 premiere focuses only on the men. I think it’s safe to say Julianne Hough won’t be making it a three-peat with Adam Carolla.
- The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8pm): New episode. “Sheldon and Leonard are asked to a physics conference to present their work together.” I’ve always wondered - if this show were to air on any other day, would it be half as successful?
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30): New episode. “Ted decides to live life like Barney on St. Patrick’s Day.” You don’t want to know what they use as their lucky charms.
- Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm): New episode. “Charlie teaches Alan how to break up with a woman.” I hear hiring prostitutes can make a woman leave you.
- The Bachelor (ABC, 9:30): Season 12 premiere. “Bachelor Matt Grant, a 27-year-old British financier, meets his 25 would-be soul mates.” Apparently in America, you can finally afford to woo twice as many women as you can in the UK.

Jonah Hill’s Intimate Moment with Andy Samberg’s Dad
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Video,
If you didn’t catch last night’s episode of Saturday Night Live, you missed a very uncomfortable scene with guest star Jonah Hill (Superbad) and Andy Samberg’s ‘father’.
This clip definitely rivals anything we’ve seen between Jimmy Kimmel and Ben Affleck.
Saturday Night Live Replaces Janet Jackson with Mariah Carey
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Music, NBC, Saturday Night Live, News,
An untimely illness has forced Janet Jackson to cancel an upcoming appearance on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live. (It was reported that the singer made a trip to the emergency room earlier this week due to a case of the flu.)
Luckily for Lorne Michaels, the show was able to able to book someone with an equally high profile: Mariah Carey.
The gig is actually a win-win situation for the two parties. Not only does the diva have an upcoming album to promote (E=MC2 comes out on April 15), the program has been trying to get the artist back on their stage for over 10 years.

Who Do You Think The Stars Are?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, NBC, Gossip,
Friends actress Lisa Kudrow, in association with Is or Isn’t Entertainment and Wall to Wall, will soon bring a new series to NBC, the network desperate enough to put anything on the air. The series, Who Do You Think You Are?, will take viewers and participants on a historical journey. Each hour-long episode is derived from a British hit where celebrities are taken through their own genealogy. In the English version, stars are often brought to tears as decades- and centuries-old skeletons are pulled forth from ancestral closets. I couldn’t possibly be more disinterested in this.
Show creator and Wall to Wall CEO Alex Graham calls it “incredibly moving.” NBC has green lighted the project on certain conditions only, all of which hinge upon the cast. Several celebs are currently being researched, though as of right now NBC isn’t releasing any names.

Amy Poehler’s Fierce Impression of Christian Siriano
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Video,
In case you didn’t catch Saturday Night Live this past weekend, here was the best part of what was yet another unevenly funny program.
In addition to Amy Poehler’s imitation of Project Runway winner Christian Siriano, we get cameos from ‘Tim Gunn’ and ‘Heidi Klum’.
(UPDATE: Real-life Christian apparently enjoyed the skit as well.)
