Late Night Mix-Up

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Late Night, Reality, Talk Shows, NBC, Rumors,
It all started when long-running NBC darling Jay Leno said he was going to retire. The Tonight Show, currently enjoying its fifty-second season on the network, is a show that’s obviously bigger than any one man. So NBC execs immediately started casting about for Leno’s replacement. Early rumors linked Conan O’Brien’s name to the late night variety/talk show, leaving a hosting hole wide open on O’Brien’s gig. Jimmy Fallon became the heir apparent, and Leno’s retirement (not scheduled, by the way, until 2009) seemed a done deal. But now, Jay just might be changing his mind. Sources purporting to be close to the situation say Leno doesn’t want to go, and NBC has answered the rumor. The network says it wants to stick with Leno, and has no intention of giving the show to O’Brien (and collectively, we can all say “whew”). The network is anxious to keep Conan on his regular late gig, which doesn’t bode too well for Fallon’s career.

As I type this, I’m listening to the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows, and I’m in a terrifically good mood. See, I love Radiohead like Tyra Banks loves … well, Tyra Banks, and so you would think that this good mood would make me put together a list of wonderful things about the new fall TV season.
Yeah, not so much. To be honest, I haven’t watched a lot of the new fall network TV shows. But it’s worthwhile to take a look at these shows and for me to say what I watched, what I thought, and why I didn’t watch a lot of them. Well, it’s worthwhile for me anyway. Plus it goes well with Radiohead (not really, but it’s not like I’m gonna stop listening). Here goes:

The 9pm hour proves to be Thursday night’s most heated battleground. And just like Wednesday night, ABC ruled the 18-49 age group while CBS gathered the largest audience.
8pm
- Survivor: China (14 million viewers, 4.5/13 in 18-49 demo) easily won the hour in viewers and the valuable age group.

- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader (8.2 million, 2.3/7 in demo) came in fourth while Smallville (4.8 million, 1.9/5) hung in there.
9pm
- Grey’s Anatomy (18.9 million, 7.8/19 in 18-49) led the night in the demo market.
- CSI (19.6 million, 6.0/14) raked in just enough viewers for evening’s win (despite being down about 1 million).
- The Office (8.9 million, 4.7/11) gained about 410,000 viewers from last week while Supernatural (3.2 million, 1.2/3) was up over 250,000.
- Don’t Forget the Lyrics (1.8/4) came in fourth with 5.6 million viewers overall.
10pm
- Although down 18% from its debut, Without a Trace (13.6 million, 3.6/10 in 18-49) ruled the hour in viewers.
- Big Shots (9.3 million, 3.6/10) was up 600,000 while ER (8.4 million, 3.4/10) was down about the same.

The Office: ‘Launch Party’
![](http://assets.gearlive.com/images/member_photos/photo_12668.jpg)
Posted by David Onda Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, The Office, Editorial, Features,
The Office has still got it – that much is certain. And while I do feel there is something off about this season, I still can’t put my finger on it, and it’s not enough to disrupt my enjoyment of the NBC comedy. The past two weeks, we saw a lot of interesting developments by way of relationships. As fans are aware, Jim and Pam are very much in love, Ryan and Kelly were over when Ryan got promoted and Dwight and Angela are in the midst of a very catty breakup. Oh, I went there. Yet another hour-long episode kicked off with Michael announcing to the staff that the Dunder Mifflin Infinite website was launching within the next 24 hours. In celebration, there would be a D.M. corporate party in New York City, which Michael had been invited to. All other branches would celebrate via webcam satellite parties which could be viewed by those at the New York gala.
More Office recap after the jump – find out who the two new potential couples are.
