Late Night Repeats for Writer-less Talk Shows

SNL Amy PoehlerIf the Writers Guild of America strikes on Monday as scheduled, you can expect a slate of late-night reruns to put you to bed.  Assuming a last-minute Sunday mediation session doesn’t prevent the 12,000 WGA members from walking out, daily productions ranging from to will immediately go into repeats.  So much for November sweeps.

The impact will not necessarily be limited to evening fare; daytime chatfests like may be affected as well.  Fortunately like my fave, , have stockpiled scripts that should leave them immune for months to come.

Tonight’s with Brian Williams could also be the last production for some time.  But given SNL’s lame tendency to air repeats anyway, who’d even notice?

Dennis Miller Set to Host Amne$ia

Dennis MillerYes folks, here comes another show from . This guy has more winning ideas in five minutes than most of us have in a lifetime. I’m convinced of it anyway. So, what is Amne$ia... and why can’t I remember anything about the premise? OK, that was a lame attempt at interjecting an amnesia joke in there. I admit it. Lame. Amne$ia is an game show that challenges the contestants’ memories. Sounds pretty average, right? Don’t a large bulk of TV game shows challenge the memory? Ah yes, perhaps about history or pop culture… but not Mark Burnett’s little gem. This show will actually question contestants about memories from their own past. Doesn’t that seem kind of easy, because, you know—it will be memories from the contestant’s own history? is set to host—and I think most folks either love Dennis or hate him. I am firmly in the love category since I adored him on Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update and thought his HBO show was pretty great too. No doubt that he’ll bring a funny edge to the program. Amne$ia will debut on NBC later this season. Heck, it’s worth tuning into anyway—count me in.

Scranton, PA Welcomes ‘Office’ Fanatics

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, NBC, The Office,

The OfficeHow many other TV shows can garner enough interest to support a convention—let alone in Scranton, Pennsylvania? Fans of rallied together over the weekend to celebrate the series and even a few Office stars joined in on the fun. , who plays Andy Bernard was on hand, saying, “We’re the Beatles in Scranton.” And he’s not too far off the mark, seeing as more than 3,000 people turned out for The Office party. The show has really put Scranton on the map—and this city of 75,000 threw a thrilling enough convention to grab fans from as far away as Australia and Ireland. And wouldn’t you know there was plenty of Office fun to be had, including Dunder Mifflin paraphernalia, a lookalike contest, and a performance by the Scrantones (not Scrantonicity, strangely enough). In addition to Helms, cast members , who plays Angela, and (Meredith) were also at the big event. ‘Bionic Woman’ Hires Mechanic

Bionic WomanNBC’s uber-hyped action drama is in desperate need of a little oil around the joints. Never mind the fact that I like the show, or that star is a freakin’ gorgeous Alicia Silverstone look-alike - it still runs slower than Miss Teen South Carolina’s thought process. Enter Jason Cahill, a.k.a. that award-winning writer from . He joins a team that includes Jason Katims, who is pulling double duty so he can serve as “consultant” for the poorly assembled Woman. The show will certainly go the way of the Dodo bird as it is, unless Cahill can pick up the pace and save the trouble of filling a Wednesday timeslot.
