Scrubs Finale

Those of you who watched last week’s episode of might have walked away scratching your heads.  Not only did the fairy tale storyline seem a bit anti-climactic (it was supposed to be a season finale, after all), the show included an appearance from Dr. Kelso. (Didn’t he already leave the hospital?)

In a recent message sent to all of his MySpace friends (it can be read after the jump), actor Zach Braff addressed the confusion and the comedy’s upcoming move to ABC.

Possible Extended Season for Heroes

Heroes, cheerleaderAlthough last year’s cut many production schedules in half, the work stoppage may actually create a scheduling windfall for viewers next season.

When debuted in September, the series was originally slated to deliver 24 episodes.  Unfortunately, fans were left with only 11 by the time the saga ended.  (Given the dipping ratings, maybe some time off was really in the drama’s best interest.)  According to Entertainment Weekly, the shortened calendar may now translate into an extended 2008-09 season.  It’s possible we may see up to 35 episodes next fall.

Those of you still wanting to catch up better mark your calendars now.  Heroes will kick off its return with a three-hour event on Monday, September 15.

NBC Drops Monk, Psych

Psych, USA NetworkAs we all know, the recent forced programmers to fill their schedules creatively.  CBS brought Big Brother in early, FOX aired endless repeats of House and NBC borrowed shows from other areas.  Unfortunately for the Peacock network, their experiments have all ended with a thud.

Back in February, NBC pulled quarterlife after only one episode.  Fortunately, that internet series still had its regular fan base to return to.  Now two other programs on the network are going back to where they came from.

Come next week, both Monk and Psych will be dropped from the Sunday lineup.  Reruns of the USA Network shows starting airing on their sister channel back in April.  Unfortunately, both programs have had only churned out horrible demos since their debut.

A two-hour block of The Office will fill in for the time being.

Scrubs

Although the Sacred Heart gang is only scheduled for two more episodes, no official announcement has been made by NBC as to the fate of it’s long-running comedy.  The network has also neglected to give ’ possible series finale any ramped-up promotion.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio’s indifference may have to do with the show’s new home.  What seemed to be just a wishful dream earlier is now apparently coming true:  Scrubs will getting a new life at ABC.

Angela Bassett Reports for ER Duty

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, NBC, ER, News,

Angela BassettOver the past 14 seasons, the halls of have seen a multitude of guest stars.  John Leguizamo, Stanley Tucci, Ray Liotta, Forest Whitaker and Hal Holbrook represent just a small sampling of those who have either been on a gurney or had a stethoscope around their neck.

For the show’s 15th - and final - year, NBC will be bringing on another Academy Award nominee to help triage the endless patients.  Waiting to Exhale‘s will help the veteran series finally come to a close.  While this won’t be her first stint on television (she did have several appearances on my beloved ), this will be her first full-time gig on the small screen.

When ER returns next fall, we can also expect a visit from one of the drama’s former staples:  Noah Wyle.  The actor, who hasn’t done much aside from USA’s The Librarian movies, is scheduled to stop by for at least four episodes.

(You can view TV Envy’s Post-Strike Television Schedule here.)

MONDAY (4/28)
  • Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm):  “Darth Vader subs for The Banker in a -themed episode that also features Carrie Fisher, R2-D2 and Chewbacca, who cheer on contesants in a winner-take-all match.”  As if I needed a reason to avoid this program altogether.
  • House (FOX, 9pm):  New episode.  “House suspects that an ER patient with a sunny disposition has a bigger problem than was initially diagnosed.  The reason:  He thinks the patient is too nice.”  I have to admit it—cheery people are a freak of nature.
  • Medium (NBC, 10pm):  “Joe surprises Allison by buying her a used car, but Allison’s subsequent visions warn of the vehicle’s unsavory past.”  Is it a 1958 Plymouth Fury that responds to the name ‘Christine’?
  • CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm):  “A clue in a case involving the discovery of a body point the CSIs to a robbery that’s being planned on a target who holds a disturbing secret.”  Murders have never been linked to anti-climatic or lame secrets.

Jimmy Fallon Takes Over for Conan O’Brien

DescriptionWhat was rumored over a year ago is now finally set to happen.  Jimmy Fallon has been tapped to be Conan O’Brien’s late-night successor.

Speculation as to who would fill the 12:30 AM slot has been ongoing since NBC decided to end ‘s run back in 2004.  With the 2009 deadline now approaching, the network is formally expected to reveal its newest golden child next month.  (I guess that means more ‘Last Calls’ for snubbed Carson Daly.)

Since leaving , Fallon has appeared in a few film projects including last year’s Factory Girl with Sienna Miller.

Cashmere Star Moving to Dirty Sexy Money

Lucy LiuWhile ABC has neither confirmed or denied the demise of , the program’s prognosis does not look good.  The evidence?  One of the show’s leading ladies is already working on her own backup plan.

Lucy Liu, Cashmere‘s Mia Mason, is reportedly in talks to star in another ABC drama.  Assuming her upcoming schedule frees up, she could soon have a full-time job on .  The role would allow the actress to return to familiar Ally McBeal-esque territory: Liu would once again play a lawyer.

In case you were wondering about (a.k.a. NBC’s version of Mafia), that show did make it on the 2008-09 schedule.

Presidents and Prime Time: Don’t They Mix?

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Ratings,

President George W. BushDespite big banner headlines and lots of flag-waving pictures, the must-touted visit from President to NBC’s Deal or No Deal didn’t help ratings. In fact, the show met it’s lowest ratings ever for a Monday broadcast despite the promise of the Commander-in-Chief.

Bush offered a taped message for an Iraq War veteran (Captain Joseph Kobes, U.S. Army) on the episode, though only 10 million viewers actually saw the footage. The presidential vote of confidence didn’t help Kobes win the million - in the end, the solider was stuck with a lowly $26,000 which was in turn tripled to $78,000 thanks to the Deal Wheel.

“I’m thrilled to be on with you tonight,” President Bush told his audience. “Come to think of it, I’m thrilled to be anywhere with high ratings these days.” Joke’s on you, Mr. President. Next time, try an appearance on Gossip Girl - that show is getting much better press.
