Tuesday Ratings: Good and Bad News for American Idol

The addition of a 4th judge didn’t help American Idol‘s ratings last night. The series saw its lowest demo number for a premiere; it also had its smallest audience for an opener since 2004. But bad news is always relative. The show was still the hottest ticket so far this year. CBS’ programs, in the meantime, displayed remarkable strength despite increased competition.

Big Love

(You can view TV Envy’s Midseason Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY 1/12)
  • 24 (FOX, 8pm):  “Jack is released from his Senate subcommittee hearing to help with the domestic threat and the investigation into former colleague Tony Almeida.” I can’t imagine what he would do to just to get out of jury duty.
  • Kyle XY (ABC Family, 9pm):  Season 3 premiere. “Lori, Declan, Josh and Andy deal with the choices they made at the prom.” Whatever happens at prom, stays at prom.
  • Man vs. Wild (Discovery, 10pm):  “An adventure in the jungles of Belize has the host reckoning with a 9-foot boa constrictor and a dangerous white-water river.” The longer the snake, the more skin to pee in.

Wednesday Ratings: Patrick Swayze Draws Supporters

Seems Barbara Walters’ endless plugs on The View weren’t in vain. Yesterday’s exclusive interview with Patrick Swayze wound up being the night’s most-watched show. Unfortunately, CBS still managed to win the evening in both categories thanks to a stronger lineup.

Tori Spelling to Fill Shannen Doherty Gap

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip, Rumors,

Tori SpellingAccording to reports, is finishing up talks to appear in a few episodes of 90210. Some say Spelling’s initial reluctance to rejoin the cast (Spelling reportedly backed out after agreeing to appear) stems from a dislike for Shannen Doherty.

But since the Brenda Walsh storyline is running dry and Shannen’s commitment to the show is coming to a close, Spelling may finally agree to assume the role of Donna Martin…again. Reps for the show have confirmed that Tori is finalizing her deal, meaning it’s only a matter of time before a Spelling is back on the set.

90210: First Bombshells Dropped

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Gossip,

90210 Cast

returned to TV last night after a long mid-season break. For days, the promos titillated us, promising more drama, more twists and more shock. Did last night’s episode deliver?

After finding out that ’s Brenda Walsh can’t have kids (and might adopt - yowzah!), former druggie Adrianna Duncan (played by Jessica Lowndes) is preggers, half-brother Sean (Josh Henderson) was really a con man and that the cute cheerleader Christina Worthy (Lauren London) is a bisexual, it’s hard to imagine there could be more.

But rest assured, 90210 fans…there will be more.

Casting Corner: 30 Rock, Heroes, Samantha Who and More

Billy ZaneMichael Weston

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Ugly Betty: Betty may never change her style, but she’ll always have new love interest. EW reports that actor Daniel Eric Gold (Definitely, Maybe) will be the latest man to enter Suarez’s life. The intelligent fellow will be one of her classmates in her new YETI program. Unfortunately, Gold - who is currently listed as a recurring player - will also come with a “secret.” (I believe that’s a show prerequisite.)

Using the above video as an example, Perez Hilton questioned a certain 90210 star’s sobriety. Ever since started starring in the revamped and revisited series, she’s been the subject of tabloid fodder.

But is there merit to Hilton’s suspicions? In the clip, does Shenae seem a little too high on life…or whatever?
