After weeks of buildup, Katie Holmes’ song and dance number finally aired on tonight. So was it worth all the hype? And did it make me “Get Happy”? Uh, no.

Earlier this month, choreographer Tyce Diorio - a man who has worked with far more talented dancers - dared to call the pre-taped performance “Oscar-winning.”

“The thing that is so awesome is that you won’t know, you don’t know what to expect … but then when you sit and watch it, it’s amazing. Amazing! And it’s not something in my opinion that’s just going to be like ‘oh, how nice.’ It’s not going to be that … ‘oh, look how sweet that is.’ No, it’s real. It’s as real as what you’re seeing now. I’m very proud of it, so I talk really highly of Katie,” Tyce told People magazine.

Every year, gives us a number so beautiful and powerful, it brings at least one judge to tears. Season 5 is no exception.

Last night, a piece danced by Melissa Sandvig and Ade Obayomi easily overshadowed anything else that happened on that dance floor. The number, choreographed to Maxwell’s cover of “This Woman’s Work,” told the story of a woman dealing with breast cancer. The result was something that got the whole room choked up.

And I thought last week’s White Stripes number was good.

If this is how is going to start the Top 10, I can’t imagine what the weeks ahead will have in store for us. While there were several highlights from last night’s performance show, these are the two that stood out most to me.

In the clip above, the final girls combined talents for probably the show’s best group female performance ever. The Bollywood number, choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan, was an absolute delight to watch.

In case you didn’t see last night’s results show, you missed what I thought was one of the best group numbers in quite some time.

Even after repeated viewings, this routine to The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” (choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon D’Umo) still has me pumped.

Michael Jackson in Thriller video

Next week, FOX will pay tribute to the King of Pop’s musical library. Now the network is planning to honor his contributions to dance.

Hours after Michael Jackson’s death, plans for a special So You Think You Can Dance were in the works. Based on a series of tweets started by Nigel Lythgoe, we may soon see an MJ-themed broadcast with numbers from Wade Robson (a former Jackson back-up dancer), Mia MIchaels…and former Janet Jackson-choreographer .

DescriptionUPDATE: It’s being reported that Katie Holmes will be doing a Judy Garland tribute.

She went from acting on the stage to doing a cabaret-esque number on Eli Stone. Now Katie Holmes is prepping to kick things up a notch.

According to multiple sources, the actress has been in secret rehearsals for an appearance on . Why Holmes? That part is not entirely clear. (Her Broadway stint didn’t exactly involve song or dance.) But it’s rumored that Katie may be one of several special guests turning up on the program’s 100th episode.

Although Nigel Lythgoe has confirmed meeting with the Mad Money star, he has not elaborated on what the one-on-one was about. Those in the know claim Katie has been privately “working with the choreographer Tyce Diorio” for a long time now. “She looks incredible. She is just doing an amazing job. Everyone is absolutely floored by how talented she is,” a source stated.

If all goes as (reportedly) planned, be sure to tune on July 8th.
