MONDAY (5/5)
- Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9:00): (The script was written by CSI scribes.) “George Eads (CSI) has a cameo in which a CSI team investigates a death at Charlie’s house.” I know Charlie wanted to stop Denise’s reality show, but this is quite a sweeps stunt.
- House (FOX, 9pm): “House believes that an actor (Jason Lewis) on his favorite soap is seriously ill after observing his symptoms on television, so he decides to intervene.” If I had known something like that would work, I would have kidnapped Smith Jerrod a long time ago.
- Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30pm): “Sam’s affair with Todd continues while he’s still seeing a clueless Chloe.” I’m sorry—why doesn’t Sam just kick her out of her apartment again? She does own the thing, doesn’t she?
- CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm): “Alexx is stunned when her son is the prime suspect in a murder investigation, and any help she offers could prove costly.” Buh-bye, Khandi!

Sex and the City Cast Visits Oprah

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, News,

As FilmCrunch earlier reported, the ladies of Sex and the City will be making several stops to promote their upcoming movie. Now we know of one more visit on their lengthy itineraries: Oprah.
Come this Thursday (May 1), all four ladies - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon - and Chris Noth will be gabbing with the talk show queen. That date will, of course, kick off a month filled with appearances for the May 30th premiere.
Will Oprah dare question Cattrall and Parker about the rumored discord between them? Or will the hour be all about shoes and fashion? Who cares? It’s not like I won’t be watching anyway.

MONDAY (4/28)
- Deal or No Deal (NBC, 8pm): “Darth Vader subs for The Banker in a Star Wars-themed episode that also features Carrie Fisher, R2-D2 and Chewbacca, who cheer on contesants in a winner-take-all match.” As if I needed a reason to avoid this program altogether.
- House (FOX, 9pm): New episode. “House suspects that an ER patient with a sunny disposition has a bigger problem than was initially diagnosed. The reason: He thinks the patient is too nice.” I have to admit it—cheery people are a freak of nature.
- Medium (NBC, 10pm): “Joe surprises Allison by buying her a used car, but Allison’s subsequent visions warn of the vehicle’s unsavory past.” Is it a 1958 Plymouth Fury that responds to the name ‘Christine’?
- CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm): “A clue in a case involving the discovery of a body point the CSIs to a robbery that’s being planned on a target who holds a disturbing secret.” Murders have never been linked to anti-climatic or lame secrets.

Oprah News: Dr. Oz, 30 Rock

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Daytime, Prime Time, Talk Shows, NBC, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip, News,
Being one of Oprah‘s friends definitely has its benefits.
Since the talk show queen was instrumental in getting both Dr. Phil and Rachael Ray their own shows, you knew it was just a matter of time before she moved on to her next pet project. This time, she’ll be responsible for making us sick of Dr. Mehmet Oz.
Up until now, I’ve really liked the doctor. The 47-year-old frequent contributor is very much like that McGraw guy; he tells it like it is. And guests aren’t afraid to ask him their most embarrassing questions because he’s pleasantly non-judgmental. (Remember when he hosted that males-only show solo?) But as likable as the medical expert is, could we tolerate seeing him on a regular basis?
Word has it the latest talk show competitor will hit the airwaves come Fall 2009. Start prepping your medical questions now.

Another Emotional Day for Ellen DeGeneres

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Video,
Talk show host Ellen DeGeneres spoke very passionately today about a topic very close to her heart. (Thankfully, it had nothing to do with dogs.) The issue? Homosexuality.
Ellen felt the need to speak up after a 15-year-old boy was recently murdered for being openly gay. You can see her emotional plea below:

‘Star Jones’, ‘Montel Williams’ Cancelled

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Cable, Syndication, Cancellations,
Somewhere, Barbara Walters must be secretly laughing right now.
Star Jones Reynolds, the woman who once occupied a seat on The View, is already looking for a new job. After only six months on the air, truTV (formerly Court TV) officially turned off the lights on the The Star Jones Show today. The program’s demise was announced only earlier this week. In a statement, the network said the decision was “due to the rebranding and programming refocus of the network.” (In other words, the channel was moving on and Star wasn’t coming with them.)
The end of Reynolds’ show, though, does not mean a departure for her from the channel. As part of her goodbye gift, Star was given the opportunity to serve as a guest legal correspondent on the daily program that is replacing hers: Arrest & Trial.

‘Entertainment Tonight’ Pulls Heath Ledger Video

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Syndication, Cancellations, Editorial, News,
Who says public pressure doesn’t work?
Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Phil did an about-face and canceled plans for a Britney-centric show. (He claimed it was an act of consideration for the family.) Now Entertainment Tonight and The Insider are throwing out the word ‘respect’ as the reason for one of their own cancellations.
The two tabloid shows were scheduled to air a video involving Heath Ledger and drugs this Thursday night. The 2006 tape - which was practically aired in its entirety for Wednesday’s promo - showed the actor in the vicinity of drugs (and drug users) at the Chateau Marmont. Although it wasn’t clear if he was taking anything in the teased bits, his audible comments made it clear he wasn’t doing something his girlfriend (Michelle Williams) would approve of. He is also heard talking about their recently-born daughter, Matilda Rose.
Although I have never seen the full video, the shortened version was more than enough. The teaser’s over-the-top narration was extremely salacious, gratuitous and insensitive. I was so bothered by what was shown….and I apparently wasn’t the only one. Late Wednesday, reps for both shows confirmed the sweeps segment had been pulled. Here is a copy of the short statement printed on ET’s website:
“Out of respect for Heath Ledger’s family, “Entertainment Tonight” and “The Insider” have decided not to run the Heath Ledger video which has been circulating in the world media.”

Reality Renewals: ‘Survivor’, ‘Judge Judy’, ‘Gladiators 2000’

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Daytime, Kids, Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Syndication, Survivor, Renewals,
With Survivor: Micronesia days away from debut, CBS has already moved on to its programming future. Realizing their aging reality show is still a ratings hit, the network has just announced they’ll be bringing it back for more. This means we will see two more installments of this Mark Burnett production following the ‘Fans vs. Favorites’ version premiering next month. And, of course, the dimpled Jeff Probst will be there to guide us to the end.
If you want to start prepping your next Survivor pool now, you can get a rundown of the contestants here. In the meantime, set your Tivos for Thursday, Feb. 7th @ 8pm.
