The Lohan vs. Cooper Battle Continues

Earlier this week on Live with Regis and Kelly, guest host Anderson Cooper offered his unedited opinions about the “train wreck” also known as Living Lohan. (You can view that hilarious segment here.)
In addition to calling the Lohan clan “horrific people,” he said that Ali Lohan was “allegedly a 14-year-old girl” who “looks to be about 60.” (For the record, I completely agree with that remark.)
And as Cooper had predicted, it didn’t take long before Dina Lohan offered her response to the journalist’s comments. (After all, that’s how she makes her money. She picks up the phone and makes sure statements are retracted.) Later that day, the mama bear told OK! that the “cruel” anchor would get it in the end. “This is bad karma for him.”

Anderson Cooper Rips Apart Living Lohan

UPDATE: You can find an update to this story here
On today’s episode of Live with Regis and Kelly, guest host Anderson Cooper diverted from his usual discussions about hard news to talk about….reality television.
In addition to making fun of Project Runway‘s leather queen (Stella), the CNN anchor used his journalistic skills to brilliantly shred Living Lohan.
C’mon Gelman. Can’t you see how much better your show would be without Regis?

Mario Lopez Becomes New Host of Extra
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Syndication, Gossip, News,
Even though Katie Holmes helped push him out of his Broadway gig, Mario Lopez is definitely not hurting for another job.
Today, the execs at Extra! announced that the Dancing with the Stars competitor will now become the full-time host of the entertainment program. The show’s current weekend co-host and correspondent will take over for Mark McGrath and Dayna Devon starting this fall.
According to the New York Post, the Season 15 shakeup was ordered to help boost ratings. Coincidentally, it’s also being reported that McGrath will be leaving his three-year gig to work on a new Sugar Ray album. But whether the chicken came before the egg is unclear. As for Devon, the show’s permanent anchor since 2003 will stay on as a special correspondent. That’s right - she’s being demoted. Ouch!

Whoopi Kisses Katy Perry on The View

Although no tears were shed on today’s episode of The View, the co-hosts once again managed to get people talking.
After her performance of the hit song ‘I Kissed A Girl’, singer Katy Perry got a nice surprise from Whoopi Goldberg.

Thanks to some seriously questionable moves on behalf of Disney-ABC Domestic Television, fans of Ebert & Roeper are throwing their two thumbs down…way down.
Both hosts of the film review show (formerly known as Siskel & Ebert) have just announced that they are parting ways with the long-running institution. Why? Well, it appears that the cheap owners are now opting to change things up.
Yesterday, Richard Roeper said he was leaving the weekly program because negotiations to extend his current contract failed. The critic, who permanently joined Roger Ebert back in 2000, will last be seen during the weekend of Aug. 16-17. This contract dispute comes almost a year after regular viewers saw the ‘Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down’ mentions removed from the show. An “offensively low” offer with Ebert (who has the copyright on the gestures), forced the producers to come up with new ways to review films.

Whoopi Goldberg Makes Elisabeth Hasselbeck Cry
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Syndication, Gossip, Video,
Regardless of whether you agree with the topic at hand, it’s always a great day on The View when a co-host ends up crying. It’s even better day when Elisabeth Hasselbeck is the one doing it.
On today’s show, things became quite tense between Elisabeth and Whoopi Goldberg during a discussion about the “N” word:

More Reasons Why Regis Philbin Should Retire
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, ABC, Syndication, Editorial, Video,
A few months ago, I listed 8 reasons why I thought Regis Philbin should start making his retirement plans. Now I would like to add a #9 and #10.
#9. Back in May, the talk show host was talking about the recent American Idol finale when he said, “What happened to the past winners? Where are they today?” When told by co-host Kelly Ripa that they come on their show “all the time,” Regis responded, “Really? I haven’t noticed.”
#10. Philbin, who actually went to the premiere of The Dark Knight yesterday evening, sadly referenced Heath Ledger as ‘Keith Ledger’. (You can see that clip from today’s show below.)

Simon Cowell Comments on Fantasia’s Performance

If you watched last Wednesday’s American Idol results show, Fantasia’s guest appearance most likely had you talking. Unfortunately, you were probably commenting about Simon Cowell’s visible reaction rather than the former winner’s actual performance.
Those who missed that rewindable moment are in luck. Ellen DeGeneres was kind enough to replay it today for the judge himself:
