There were some high notes and low notes for NBC’s new musical experiment (The Sing-Off). Although the network saw its best demos in that time period since September (sorry, Heroes!), the Peacock still came in third with both the viewers and the demos last night.

- Accidentally on Purpose (9.3 million, 3.3/9) picked up 1 million.
- The Sing-Off (2.3/6) averaged 6.9 million over two hours.
- House* (2.1/6) turned in 6.7 million.
- Jennifer Hudson: I’ll Be Home For Christmas (1.2/3) only drew in 5.6 million for ABC.
- The Vampire Diaries* (0.7/2) kicked off its marathon with 1.6 million.

As nice as Christmas must be in the White House, the action is clearly on the gridiron. Despite cheerful numbers for Oprah’s primetime special, the game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Giants was easily the night’s top contender.
8pm
- Approximately 17.9 million saw the Eagles beat the Giants on Sunday Night Football (7.0/17 in 18-49).
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (3.1/8) averaged 10.1 million over two hours.
- The Mentalist* (1.9/5) pulled in 9.5 million for CBS.
- The Simpsons (3.2/8) nabbed 7.1 million.
- The Cleveland Show (3.0/7) turned in 6.5 million.

Friday Ratings: Big Bump for Betty

Okay, so CBS was in repeats—but I think we’d all accept gifts when we can. A lack of competition helped Friday’s broadcast of Ugly Betty reach its best numbers of the season. Thankfully, the program will be given a new opportunity when it starts airing on Wednesdays in January.
8pm
- Law & Order (8.8 million, 1.7/6) had a long-awaited win in its hour.
- Yes, Virginia (1.3/5) entertained 5.3 million.
- Supernanny (1.3/5) scolded 4.6 million.
- The Big Bang Theory* (1.4/5) contributed 4.6 million to the evening.
- The first hour of Dollhouse (1.0/3) raised 2.7 million.
- Smallville* (0.5/1) averaged 1.4 million over two hours.

There’s nothing like real-life family to make holiday episodes festive - and successful. Zooey Deschanel’s appearance on yesterday’s Bones helped the show pick up its best numbers of the season. Meanwhile CBS - facing only repeats from ABC - had easy wins in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm

Note to Barbara Walters: Maybe you shouldn’t reveal your fascinating list before the show actually airs? Despite drawing over 10 million last night for the annual special, ABC - along with FOX - lost out to CBS in both the viewers and the demos.

Nothing says ratings like a long-awaited wedding. Last night’s episode of Brothers & Sisters gave the drama its best ratings of the season. Unfortunately, commitment-phobes - once again - fueled NBC’s football Sunday.
8pm

- The Amazing Race finale (12.3 million, 3.7/9) hit a season high in viewers.

Friday Ratings: Dollhouse Down, Betty Up

Do viewers watch programs they know are being canceled? Based on Dollhouse‘s ratings last night, probably not. The FOX drama returned this weekend to series-low ratings. Elsewhere, fans of Ugly Betty did their best to keep that ABC comedy from the chopping block.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (8.2 million, 1.9/7 in 18-49) had the best numbers of the night.
- Muppets Christmas: Letters To Santa (1.1/4) entertained 4.3 million for NBC.
- ABC’s Dreams Come True special (0.9/3) saw 3.7 million tune in.
- Dollhouse (0.8/3) averaged 2.1 million over two hours.
- Smallville* (1.8 million, 0.8/3) added on 200,000.
