On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

LostGood news, fans.  has finally announced the show’s 2008 premiere date:  Thursday, Jan. 31st.

That’s right. Thursday.  The series will finally be moving to a plum day of the week.  Granted, a few other programs will be going into repeats by that time —- but I have a feeling the producers won’t be complaining about a hand-me-down time slot.

Lost will air in former 9pm shift.  It’s January debut will then be followed by ABC’s mid-season replacement, , @ 10pm.

LostFans stunned by last May’s cliffhanger have been chompin’ at the bit waiting for a new season to begin.  For their patience, they were promised an uninterrupted 16 weeks of episodes come 2008.  Of course, the current had many wondering if their show’s status was in jeopardy.

Although some may fans may not like how has decided to resolve this issue, others will probably be grateful they have something - anything - to look forward to at this point.  The network could have opted to shelve their unfinished season (like FOX recently did with 24); they have instead chosen to air the finished eight episodes.  In other words, viewers will get only half of what was originally promised.  The good news?  Co-creator and executive producer says the eighth episode does come with its own cliffhanger.  The bad news?  Lindelof admits the planned story arc may have to adjust accordingly.

So until Season Four kicks off sometime this February, fans will have mini-teasers to tide them over.  ABC’s website will soon begin posting weekly vignettes featuring characters from the show.  The episodes - each only a few minutes long - are separately shot videos that somehow belong into the much larger Lost puzzle.  You can find the first ‘mobisode’ starting this Monday (November 12th).

Fisher StevensRabid Lost fans will take any tidbit of news they can. And so, I offer this tasty morsel of Lost casting news. Fisher Stevens is joining the show! Now, I’m not sure if that exclamation point is disbelief or excitement, and while I certainly don’t have anything against Stevens, I’m having a kind of “huh?” reaction. And that’s primarily because I associate Stevens with Short Circuit and have no recollection for anything else he’s done. So, all I can envision is that robot saying “Number 5 is alive!” And that really doesn’t have too much to do with Fisher Stevens because he didn’t even say that line. Even looking him up on IMDB didn’t jostle my memory about other roles he’s had, although he appeared on the series Early Edition and has made many guest appearances. Hmm. Anyway… back to Lost. Stevens is set to play the role of Minkowski, who we have only heard through the satellite phone during the last season’s finale, telling the Losties they would be rescued. Will this little nugget o’ info carry us until the season premiere in February? Not likely, but it’s at least something.

J.J. Abrams J.J. Abrams, the power house behind Alias and Lost (not to mention Felicity and What About Brian), is back to rock your television screen. His latest series, Fringe, has been picked up by Fox—and this is a doozy. It’s got a spooky theme and a killer budget for the pilot. We’re talking a pilot that’s well over $10 million. How obscene is that? Given, it will be a two hour pilot, but still! The show is so far director-less and lacks a cast, but with J.J. on board, you can bet it will grab some viewers. Of course, I thought the same of last season’s… uh, what was it called? Six Degrees? Seriously, I tuned in just because it was a J.J. deal and didn’t like it at all (and I guess I wasn’t alone, because it wasn’t around for long!). Abrams says Fringe includes elements of The X-Files and the Twilight Zone, so it could be interesting, with plenty of paranormal mysteries to be had. According to Abrams, “It’s definitely meant to scare the hell out of you, but it’s also meant to make you laugh… It pushes all the buttons of things we loved from our childhood.”

Dominic Monaghan I Sell the Dead

For those of us still reeling from the (ambiguous?) departure of Charlie from ABC’s , there’s news of hitting the big screen again in the near future. Dom will be starring in I Sell the Dead, a new horror/comedy from director Glen McQuaid about lowlife Victorian Graverobbers who hock stolen bodies to “men of science.” Principle photography has recently wrapped, so hopefully something more exciting than the admittedly cheesy trailer will be hitting the net soon. Expect great things from Dom in his first leading role.  Check out the website for updates and photos. The tagline may amuse Lost fans in reference to the late Charlie’s new role - it reads, “Never Trust a Corpse.”

Emmy AwardsThe 59th Annual Emmy Awards has not even started, yet I’m already sensing sensing a weird vibe about tonight’s telecast.  Will the show be a celebration of those young and new (e.g. Heroes)?  Will it be a tribute to those bowing out (James Gandolfini and crew)?  Or will performer Kanye West somehow manage to cast a controversial shadow over the rest of the ceremony?

What a difference a year makes.  Twelve months ago, we were still handing out trophies to stars from Will & Grace and The West Wing (those shows feel so five-years ago now).  Today, we welcome a new crop of nominees including Ugly Betty and 30 Rock for Best ComedyLast year, we were entertained by an always-hilarious Conan O’Brien.  This year, we are threatened by a song and dance number from this year’s host, Ryan Seacrest.  Last August, 24 snagged the award for Best Drama.  This September, it’s not even nominated (yet somehow Boston Legal is).

I think it would be safe to assume the voters would predictably (and respectfully) shower The Sopranos with honors, but I’ll still be crossing my fingers for an upset sometime tonight.  We’ll need something to talk about tomorrow…

Here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the neglected West Coast!

Description

The last time the producers of tried to introduce two new characters (remember Nikki and Paolo?), audiences hated them so much they were promptly killed off.  So with hesitance I say that five new players are being brought on this upcoming season.  Of course, we don’t necessarily know their roles or how long they will stay.  Maybe they will pull a Bai Ling and exit quickly.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reports that these actors include Jeff Fahey (Lawnmower Man, ), Jeremy Davies (a.k.a the skinny guy in Saving Private Ryan), Lance Reddick (), Ken Leung (X-Men: The Last Stand) and Rebecca Mader (Justice).  The show’s still got two more years to go—so I guess someone’s gonna to have to die.  Any bets as to which one in this bunch will be the first?  I’m gonna go for the skinny guy (Davies).

Reminder, Lost does not start until mid-season….so don’t be waiting for it in September.

Veronica Mars, star of the now-defunct Veronica Mars, has found a new home on NBC’s .  She accepted the role after weighing another offer to be on ABC’s Is she that

good?  Apparently she smartly realized that it was best to join a series that was still on an upswing.

While Bell’s character, Elle, is still a bit of a mystery…we do know that she has ties to Peter, H.R.G and Claire.  We also know that she will have a power.  Having never been a viewer of her old show, I really know nothing about Bell—aside from her horrible rendition of ‘Fame’ on the 2005 .  Here’s to hoping her presence will not come with an equally loud thud.

Expect to see the addition of Elle this October.

Lost Lost fans will be glad to hear that Harold Perrineau is returning to the series when it returns in January 2008. Strange, considering he spent the entire last season off of the show, leading many to believe that his ship may have just sailed off into who-knows-where. The news broke at the Television Critics Association, although it was supposed to be revealed at Comic-Con. If you recall from the end of season two, Michael Dawson (Perrineau) shot both Libby (Cynthia Watros) and Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) and delivered Jack, Kate and Sawyer in exhange for The Others setting him and his son Walt free from the island. And off his boat sailed into the sunset, never to be seen again—at least not on the third season of the series. Of course, Lost fans will cling to this nugget of info and any others we can get during the long wait until January’s season four premiere. No details (of course) on where we’ll see Michael, meaning back on the island or in the future post-island world. More details about the upcoming season of Lost are expected at today’s Comic-Con convention.
