Rumor: Paula Abdul to be Replaced

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors,
When I first read the gossip that Paula Abdul might be replaced on American Idol, I figured it was true. Her strange behavior seems to be begging for her to get the boot. Then I read a bit more and saw that Courtney Love may be her replacement. Huh? Seems it would be in Idol producers’ best interest to replace one incoherent judge with someone reliable, and… I don’t know… coherent? The rumor comes from Us Weekly, so I think we may have to take this one with a grain of salt. Their report says that a source informed the magazine that Nigel Lythgoe, Idol executive producer, considered replacing Paula with Courtney. No telling who the “source” is, but it seems a fair assumption that this prediction will never see the light of day. Us reported that Love was contacted by Lythgoe, but she made no comment about whether or not she would appear on Idol. Love said of the call, “He was wondering if I was interested. I thought it was kind of weird but brilliant.”

Ugly Betty/Extras Actress Elopes

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, HBO, Extras, Gossip,
Ashley Jensen, who can be seen on both Ugly Betty and Extras, has tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Terence Beesley. The two eloped on January 22nd in a forest in Big Sur, California. Their dog, Barney, served as ring bearer. Jensen plays seamstress Christine on Ugly Betty and can also be seen as Maggie Jacobs, opposite Ricky Gervais on the HBO comedy Extras. I enjoyed her so much on the first season of Extras, and this season hasn’t disappointed yet either. She can really hold her own against Gervais, which is no small feat. I was thrilled to see her on Ugly Betty as well, although she doesn’t get a lot of screen time. Jensen commented to People magazine about the nuptials, saying it was a “beautiful, beautiful magical wedding…It was brilliant.”

Tsk, tsk, what does Sandra Bullock think of all of this? Jesse James (who is Bullock’s husband) was fined $271,250 by the state of California for failing to meet emissions standards. James is the former star of Monster Garage, a show on the Discover Channel that challenged a team to build a “monster machine” out of a vehicle. James is also the owner of West Coast Chopper, which builds custom motorcycles for many celebrities. The California Air Resources Board fined James based on 50 custom-built motorcycles that James sold between 1998 and 2005. The board maintains that the cycles “did not have state certified emissions equipment on their exhaust and fuel systems.” As a result, “bikes were spewing hydrocarbons at up to 10 times the state limits,” according to Paul Jacobs, chief of the board’s Mobile Sources Enforcement branch. Monster Garage ended after five seasons in June 2006.

Anne Heche and Hubby Split

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Gossip, Rumors,
After five years of marriage, Anne Heche and her husband, cameraman Coley Laffoon, have split. Heche’s rep has confirmed the news with People magazine, which seems to be the go-to publication for airing your break up news if you’re a celebrity. Her rep said that the couple “have decided to separate after five years of marriage. They have requested that they be allowed their privacy at this time.” You may recall that Heche, currently starring on Men in Trees, was involved with Ellen DeGeneres for a few years before they split in 2000. She and Laffoon married in 2001, shortly after she released her kooky autobiography titled, Call Me Crazy. The couple have a four-year-old son named Homer. Rumors have been swirling (according to Entertainment Tonight anyway) that Heche is involved with Men in Trees co-star, James Tupper, although there has been no confirmation of this relationship.

Former ‘Friends’ Stars to Kiss on ‘Dirt’

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Gossip,
We brought you the news that Jennifer Aniston may be appearing on Courteney Cox Arquette’s FX series, Dirt. Then we confirmed Aniston’s appearance on the finale. And now… well, for anyone that ever hoped to catch any of the women from Friends in a liplock, this news is for you. Not only will Aniston appear on the season finale of Dirt, but she will also be seen kissing star Courteney Cox Arquette. So, if you thought viewership for this freshman series was going to see an uptick from Aniston’s turn as a rival magazine editor, the upcoming kiss will have viewer numbers off of the chart. The episode, which airs on March 27th, will have Aniston’s character giving what a source calls a “goodbye peck.” Okay, so it’s not a heavy kissing scene, but the source tells People magazine, “But, yes, it’s on the lips.” Further, it has been confirmed that Aniston will be playing a lesbian, according to a USA Today article.

Isaiah Washington Apologizes For Inappropriate Comment

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip,
Have you been following this whole blow-up over what Isaiah Washington of Grey’s Anatomy said about co-star T.R. Knight? If not, let me get you up to speed. In October, Washington and Patrick Dempsey got into an argument after Washington threw out a homophobic slur. As a result, co-star T.R. Knight officially announced to People magazine that he is gay. The whole incident wasn’t in the headlines for long, and all seemed to be well for the cast of the hit medical drama. Fast forward to the night of the Golden Globes, when Washington was asked in the press room about the comment he made—and he denied that it ever happened. Of course, this ruffled a lot of people’s feathers—Knight, for whom the comment was made, ABC, his co-stars on Grey’s Anatomy, and everyone behind the show, for that matter, and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. As a result, Washington issued an apology, saying “I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.” Here’s my beef about celebrities—why can’t they just behave? They have it all, and yet they throw around inappropriate comments and do stupid things. No word yet on whether or not this will affect Washington’s role on Grey’s Anatomy. ABC is simply saying that his comments at the Globes were “unacceptable and are being addressed.”

Oprah Being Sued by Audience Member

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Oprah Winfrey Show, Gossip,
When I first read that an audience member at one of Oprah‘s tapings was going to sue Winfrey, it immediately brought to mind those Saturday Night Live sketches where the women are going crazy and fainting because of Oprah’s giveaways. Seems the reason for this lawsuit is that the woman allegedly was injured during the stampede that occurred while trying to find a seat for the show’s taping.
Tayna Milner’s lawsuit says that the studio did not control the crowd properly, resulting in Milner being pushed down the stairs and suffering injuries on April 11th. She is seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Oprah Winfrey’s Harpo Studios.

Seacrest, Daly Not Competing for New Year’s Eve

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Late Night, Reality, ABC, NBC, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors,
A bit of a slow entertainment news day when a possible rivalry between Carson Daly and Ryan Seacrest is a headline. The rumor that the two are competing for the coveted New Year’s Eve gig that Dick Clark has hosted for oh-so-many years was quickly dismissed by both Daly and Seacrest.
Dick Clark, who made the ‘‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’’ show an institution, suffered a stroke two years ago. In his place, uber-host Ryan Seacrest will be taking on hosting duties for the second year. Daly has his own hosting responsibilities for the night’s festivities on ‘‘New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly’‘, on NBC. The notion that the two would be fighting for Clark’s job seemed to be shot down before the rumor mill could even get warmed up. Daly told the ‘‘Los Angeles Times’‘, “Dick Clark is a huge inspiration for the huge success he’s achieved. But that’s where I stop. The world is changing. I’m young; I have my own thoughts as a producer. I’m not trying to keep his tradition. I’m trying to do my own.”

Rosie to Stay on The View

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Daytime, Talk Shows, Syndication, Gossip, Renewals, Rumors,
Rosie O’Donnell has only been on The View three months, and rumors are already swirling that she may be leaving the gabfest. This speculation came after she mentioned that she would like to work on Nip/Tuck in response to an audience member’s question at the commercial break. On Thursday’s show, she set the record straight, saying “Don’t anybody worry where Rosie’s going. She’s right here.” And the ladies of The View should be lucky that she’s sticking around—the show has seen an increase in viewership since Star Jones left and O’Donnell came on board. The show enjoyed its best numbers in its history for November, with viewership up 15 percent over last year.

Prison Break Actor Involved in Fatal Crash

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FOX, Prison Break, Gossip,
Lane Garrison, who played “Tweener” on the Fox drama Prison Break was involved in a car accident over the weekend that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy. Media sources are now reporting that alcohol may have been a factor in Garrison striking a center median, jumping a curb and striking a tree in his 2001 Land Rover. There were also two 15-year-old girls in the SUV, one of which was listed in critical condition following the crash. Witnesses to the accident said that he may have been drinking and the Beverly Hills Police said the actor displayed “symptoms of alcohol intoxication.” Garrison suffered only minor injuries in the crash. Names of the teenagers have not been released.
