A mere 20,000 viewers. That was the only thing keeping CBS from winning both the viewers and the demos last night. ABC’s reality block - with its 12.18 million average - barely managed to squeak past the Eye and its 12.16 million followers.

Monday night saw a heated competition between three different networks. Although ABC was a winner with the viewers, FOX (3.9/11) won a hard-fought battle in the demos over CBS (3.9/10). (ABC and its 3.6/10 wasn’t that far behind.)

You gotta hand it to Jennifer Love Hewitt. Personal troubles won’t keep that girl down. Ghost Whisperer‘s numbers helped give CBS a double-win on Friday night.

The Closer

(You can view TV Envy’s Midseason Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY 1/26)
  • Jon & Kate Plus 8 (TLC, 9pm):  “Jon and Kate take the kids to see their new home.” The new place comes with extra bathrooms…and a new set of parents.
  • The Closer (TNT, 9pm):  Series return. “The fate of Detective Sanchez, who was shot three times and airlifted to a hospital, is revealed.” I don’t know how Sanchez is doing, but the suspense has been killing me!
  • Bromance (MTV, 9pm):  “Brody tricks the final four into attending a fake launch party for his line of designer jeans, where he asks them to walk the red carpet in pants that are entirely too tight.” Huh. I have no idea why people think this is really a dating show.
  • Trust Me (TNT, 10pm):  Series premiere. “Eric McCormack and Tom Cavanagh star as two best friends working as creative partners at a top-ranked Chicago ad agency.” Kinda like , but without the booze and cigarettes. At least not in the office.

There was a little bit of good news and bad news for NBC this weekend. Although the network saw smaller numbers for Howie Do It‘s second outing, the return of Friday Night Lights did better than the previous time slot holder (Lipstick Jungle). Unfortunately CBS’ dominant lineup made any improvements seem laughable.

Lost

(You can view TV Envy’s Midseason Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY 1/19)
  • The Secret Life of the American Teenager (ABC Family, 8pm):  “Ricky’s dad arrives in town with a proposal for how Ricky should handle impending fatherhood.” Apparently leaving town is an option?
  • House (FOX, 8pm):  “Cuddy discovers that caring for her newly adopted baby leaves her little time to run the hospital.” Taking care of House and a baby is an impossible feat.
  • Bromance (MTV, 9pm):  “The guys embark on a camping trip, but before reaching their destination, they stop at a biker bar where each must face off against a huge biker in the parking lot.” The reality is, many people want to kick ‘s ass. It’s time to hone their defense skills now.
  • Paranormal State (A&E, 10pm):  Season premiere. “A family believes their new home in suburban New Jersey is haunted. The team’s investigation leads them to dig in the yard for possible answers.” Haunting or no haunting, buried things in my yard is reason enough to move.
