On Gear Live: iPhone 16e Review: Apple Just Killed the Budget iPhone

Kathy Griffin

While it’s probably be safe to assume that Fringe and 90210 would both be handed 2009 renewal notices - especially since they’ve already been given full season orders - this television season is still far too young.

Here is, though, what we do know already about next year’s programming calendar:

  • Big Brother (CBS) - Season 11
  • Entourage (HBO) - Season 6
  • Flashpoint (CBS) - Season 2
  • Here Come the Newlyweds (ABC) - Season 2
  • Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List (Bravo) - Season 5
  • My Boys (TBS) - Season 3
  • Sons of Anarchy (FX) - Season 2
  • True Blood (HBO) - Season 2

MONDAY (9/29)
  • Chuck (NBC, 8pm):  Season 2 premiere. “Chuck mixes it up with a formidable operative (Michael Clarke Duncan) out to obtain a device that would potentially give rise to a new Intersect.” Thankfully, he knows a girl from Wienerlicious who can take the big guy down.
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  “Peter looks to the past to stop the future.” Is going back to Season Two an option?
  • 100 Greatest Hip Hop Songs (VH1, 9pm):  “A five-part countdown of the Top 100 hip hop songs.” Because when I think hip hop, I think .
  • Life (NBC, 10pm):  Season 2 premiere. “Crews and Reese track a serial killer who’s placing victims in numbered trunks around the city.” Ooh—I love scavenger hunts!

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

CSI: NY: To celebrate its 100th outing, CSI: NY will be doing it old-school Terminator style. In the sweeps episode, several guest stars - including Rumer Willis, Daughtry and Scott Wolf - will become targets of a serial killer. In the original Terminator, women named Sarah Connor became Arnold Schwarzenegger’s targets. This time around, the suspect is aiming to knock off those named Mac Taylor. (That would be the name of Gary Sinise’s character.) You can expect the star-studded episode to air on November 19.

60th Primetime Emmy Awards logo

Even though the previous television season was marred by the annoying writers’ strike, I find myself really excited for the . Not only will this ceremony give us a chance to start anew, it’ll be the academy’s chance to celebrate what’s new.

Tonight, two basic cable shows (Damages, Mad Men) will get a chance to win for Outstanding Drama Series. (That would be an Emmy first.) Meanwhile, nominees in several categories will have an opportunity to compete in a Sopranos-less environment. An added bonus? A new category. This year, reality show hosts will finally be acknowledged for their programming contributions as well.

So who won? Who lost? Who ran up and grabbed the award even though they didn’t win? Read our West Coast play-by-play account of this evening’s telecast and find out!

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Nip/Tuck: Now that Eden Lord (AnnaLynne McCord) has moved on to 90210, Dr. Sean McNamara will have to find a new young thing to lust after. Fortunately, he won’t have to go far. For the show’s 6th season, Julian McMahon’s former Charmed co-star, Rose McGowan, will have a four-episode arc as another doctor. She’ll also play another possible love interest of Sean’s. Production on the series begins next week.

Robert Sean Leonard in House

(You can view TV Envy’s Fall Television Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY (9/15)
  • Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8pm): “John’s schoolwork suffers, but his social circle widens when he makes a new friend.” Uhh, what exactly does he need to learn? He already knows that he’s in charge of saving the world.
  • Prison Break (FOX, 9pm):  “Michael and Linc happen upon T-Bag by chance.” Seriously, by chance? That’s like saying I just stopped watching this show…by chance.
  • I Want to Work for Diddy (VH1, 9pm):  “The teams must each throw a party that meets the high standards of a Diddy event, attending to such details as theme, decor, signature cocktails and guest list.” How would they know how to throw a Diddy event if they’ve never been invited to a Diddy event?
  • Luke’s Parental Advisory (VH1, 10:30pm):  “Luke tells Lacresha and Luther Jr. that they have a 2-year-old half brother. Later, he tries to bond with the child during a weekend visit.” What would we do without television cameras to record special family moments like these?

The Shield's Michael Chiklis

When this year began, followers of were still uncertain when their FX series would return. Thankfully, they at least now know when it will end.

Although Season 6 debuted last April, the show’s seventh - and final - season was pushed back to Fall 2008. Surprisingly, the scheduling decision had nothing to do with the . The network simply didn’t want the program to compete with with the Summer Olympics. (As if they couldn’t have aired repeats for a whole two weeks.)

The Emmy-nominated series, which still has 13 more episodes in the vault, has now been given a November 25th end date. While that may seem like a short stint, the 3-month run is actually in line with the previous seasons. And from what I hear, these final hours will be something to remember.
