Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, FOX,

Fans of SYTYCD—that time has come. Not only are we down to the Final Ten contestants, but we finally get to see the schedule for the nationwide tour. The increasing popularity of the show has not only upped the number of stops this year, but it has increased the size of the venues the dancers will be performing in. That may be a good or bad thing depending on what you prefer.
The tour begins Sept. 21 in Albany, NY and ends on Nov. 30th in Reno, NV. Tickets for most cities (not including pre-sales) go on sale on Aug. 11th

Foxworthy Back for Another FOX Season
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Games, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Renewals,
Jeff Foxworthy, famously rednecked comedian, will return to FOX for new episodes of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader beginning August 30. Though some of the first-season kids were actors, including Back to You’s Laura Marano, Foxworthy says none of the kids were coached for questions. For the upcoming second season, all the kids will be non-actors. On the show, each question comes directly from a school textbook, though the new season will feature A Classroom Club question that lets every day kids submit their own quiz items. When a child’s question is used, the show will donate a computer lab to the kid’s school.

Ramsay’s Kitchen Dish
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Hell’s Kitchen, Talent, Gossip,
This month, TV Guide is highlighting the TV chefs that make our mouths water. And which chef has more fire than Gordon Ramsay? The Hell’s Kitchen host recently sat down with TV Guide to give all the dish on his nightmarish kitchen experiences. Ramsay is known for his hot-under-the-collar ‘tude on Hell’s Kitchen, something the chef says is necessary to get the job done. Ramsay, the father of four, says his children won’t follow his habit of prolific swearing, and that there’s a right time and place for using more colorful metaphors. Chef Ramsay discussed his new FOX show, Kitchen Nightmares, will which debut in the fall. Ramsay was taken aback by the restaurants he found in the States, and says he can’t wait for viewers to see what he encountered while taping the show.

Big Stars Lend Voices to The Simpsons This Fall
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, FOX,
I think it was just last week when I was ever-so giddy over the news of an appearance by Jerry Seinfeld on 30 Rock. Now I’m over the moon about the upcoming stars set to lend their voices to The Simpsons this fall. While The Simpsons has always managed to grab its fair share of celebrity voices, for some reason, this looks like a banner year to me. I have to admit (hanging my head in shame), that my viewership of The Simpsons has dwindled to the occasional viewing, but I will have to clear my plate come fall for a chance to hear the following guest stars: Jon Stewart, Jack Black, Stephen Colbert, Lionel Richie, Steve Buscemi, Matt Dillon, Kurt Loder, Beverly D’Angelo, Maya Rudolph and Topher Grace. Newsman Dan Rather, tenor Placido Domingo, and the return of Kelsey Grammer as Sideshow Bob are certain to offer highlights too. Most interesting to me is the appearance by Jack Black on October 7, where his character opens a new comic book store to rival the existing shop helmed by Comic Book Guy. Good times ahead, for sure. It’s little news like this that keeps me going through the slump of summer programming.

Hey Paula! Have I Got A Few Things To Say To You…
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Reality, Bravo, Cable, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,
Let me first say that while it is not a quality show by any means, Hey Paula has given me exactly what I was hoping for: a train wreck that I can count on.
And while I curse Paula Abdul weekly for being ditzy, overly emotional and sometimes rude (especially to her assistants)...I applaud her for opening up and showing us her true character. Though I’m sure the actual results are much different from what I’m assuming she intended.

Clay Aiken Fans Saved Jericho?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Music, Reality, CBS, FOX, American Idol, Rumors,
Can you believe that Clay Aiken is trying to take credit for the revival of the canceled series Jericho? Apparently, Aiken was a big fan of the show and rallied on his blog for his faithful fans (known as Claymates) to take action. He told The Houston Chronicle, “The show Jericho... I loved it. I started blogging about it on my fan site. It got canceled, and I blogged about how upset I was. I said, ‘The Claymates can do anything. How do we get this show back on the air?’” Was Aiken’s message to his fans the impetus that got the whole peanut craze started? If you recall, once the show was canceled, lots o’ peanuts made their way to the CBS offices in reference to a line from the show. Lo and behold, the net announced that Jericho would be coming back to the air waves. The power of nuts. And Claymates, it seems. Aiken said, “Honestly, within a week [the Claymates] had organized a campaign amongst Jericho fans to send nuts to CBS. It kind of started in that place. And it’s back on the air! It just blows my mind.” Hmmm. Is Clay Aiken taking too much credit for the show’s return? Does he have that crazy a fanbase that they will just do whatever he commands? I’m not so sure I’m a believer.

Reality Recap - The Best & Worst of June
Posted by David L. Williams Categories: Reality, ABC, FOX, HBO, MTV, NBC, Hell’s Kitchen, So You Think You Can Dance, Top Chef, Editorial, Features,

Now that we’ve said goodbye to June and its 30 days of weddings, trips to the beach, and the slow, crippling realization that it’s still a long, long time until Lost comes back, why don’t we take a few minutes and look back at the best and worst of June reality TV? Nope, that was a rhetorical question. Yes, I know, there are lots of reasons not to look back, and yet I’m going to do it anyway.
Oh, and it doesn’t really fit here because it’s not a reality show, but Flight of the Conchords on HBO is pretty hilarious. I don’t really have enough to say about it to write a full column, obviously, but it’s definitely worth checking out. Okay, here we go…

Kwik-E-Mart Coming to Your Neighborhood 7-Eleven?
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, FOX,
Anyone with even remote knowledge of The Simpsons is familiar with the Kwik-E-Mart convenience store on the series. The current 7-Eleven marketing promotion converts a dozen of the stores into Kwik-E-Marts for the upcoming The Simpsons Movie. A stroke of genius, to be sure, but a bit of a rip for fans of the animated classic who aren’t in proximity to a 7-Eleven. Fear not, however, because most of the other 6,000 locations will also sell Simpsons’ inspired products, including Squishees (a.k.a. Slurpees), Buzz Cola and KrustyO’s cereal. I’d think for even the mildest Simpsons fans, these would be coveted items to own. The Simpsons Movie will open on July 27 and you can bet that people will be pouring into the theaters for a glimpse of Homer on the big screen. If you do live near one of the transformed stores, you’ll see the exteriors look decidedly like the animated Kwik-E-Mart—so, lucky residents of New York City, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Burbank, Los Angeles, Henderson (Nevada), Orlando (Florida), Mountain View (California), Seattle and Bladensburg (Maryland)... check it out soon, because your area Kwik-E-Mart will only be around for this month.

Don’t Forget About FOX
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Gossip, Ratings,
Okay, so FOX’s summer hasn’t gone as the network expected. The after-Idol reality show On The Lot hasn’t performed as FOX execs hoped, likely because the network pit their brand-new show against the known success of NBC’s America’s Got Talent, a big summer ratings-grabber. But FOX knows how to combat sagging ratings and shows that seem to be bombing – with much more new reality to entice viewers. That’s right, FOX is down…but they aren’t out of the summer reality TV game.

Auditions Begin this Summer for Idol
Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol,
Wow, could it be time for American Idol auditions already? Seems like we just put that whole Sanjaya hair talk behind us and were moving on. Last season of Idol was tough on me. I used to really enjoy watching it, but this past season? Well, Idol, I don’t think I love you anymore. It’s not that I don’t like you… I think you’re great and everything, but this year dragged on and I felt… trapped. Yep, that’s it. I felt like I had to keep watching you—you, with your smug host and snarky Brit judge, the kookoo lady that broke her nose, and the king of the Dog Pound. I hoped it would get better, but it didn’t. I’m not sure if I’ll ever get over you, but I’m going to try. I wish we could just take a long break from each other, but I heard that you’re looking for new talent for the next round. I need time for my wounds to heal, but you’re right back at it. When the dust settles, I hope we can still be friends. Sigh…. Okay, so I got a little tired of Idol last season—tell me I’m the only one! And today I just read that Fox has announced audition dates/locations for the next season, which will air in January 2008. Auditions kick off on July 30 in San Diego, then they hit the road and check out the talent in: Dallas, TX; Omaha, NE; Atlanta, GA; Charleston, SC; Miami, FL and Philadelphia, PA. Those auditioning must be between the ages of 16 and 28. Good luck!
