Ugly Betty/Extras Actress Elopes

Ashley Jensen, who can be seen on both Ugly Betty and Extras, has tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend, Terence Beesley. The two eloped on January 22nd in a forest in Big Sur, California. Their dog, Barney, served as ring bearer. Jensen plays seamstress Christine on Ugly Betty and can also be seen as Maggie Jacobs, opposite Ricky Gervais on the HBO comedy Extras. I enjoyed her so much on the first season of Extras, and this season hasn’t disappointed yet either. She can really hold her own against Gervais, which is no small feat. I was thrilled to see her on Ugly Betty as well, although she doesn’t get a lot of screen time. Jensen commented to People magazine about the nuptials, saying it was a “beautiful, beautiful magical wedding…It was brilliant.”

Hargitay and Meloni Extend SVU Contracts

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, NBC, Renewals,
Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni, stars of the hit NBC series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, have just extended their contracts for two more years. This comes after weeks of negotiations and some speculation that the series would go on without the star power of Hargitay and Meloni. The two will continue on the drama through 2009. The show’s creator, Dick Wolf, has made no announcements about the dollar amount of the deal, but it has been reported that each could be earning more than $6.5 million annually. Hargitay is joining the big leagues, with an estimated $300,000 to $340,000 per episode, putting her in the range of Kyra Sedgwick, who was recently named as one of the top paid female television stars. Creator Dick Wolf said of the agreement, “I’m thrilled that Chris and Mariska have decided to stay with a show that they’ve made an indelible stamp upon, as we move into our ninth season.” Both have been with the series since it started in 1999.

Anne Heche and Hubby Split

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Gossip, Rumors,
After five years of marriage, Anne Heche and her husband, cameraman Coley Laffoon, have split. Heche’s rep has confirmed the news with People magazine, which seems to be the go-to publication for airing your break up news if you’re a celebrity. Her rep said that the couple “have decided to separate after five years of marriage. They have requested that they be allowed their privacy at this time.” You may recall that Heche, currently starring on Men in Trees, was involved with Ellen DeGeneres for a few years before they split in 2000. She and Laffoon married in 2001, shortly after she released her kooky autobiography titled, Call Me Crazy. The couple have a four-year-old son named Homer. Rumors have been swirling (according to Entertainment Tonight anyway) that Heche is involved with Men in Trees co-star, James Tupper, although there has been no confirmation of this relationship.

Former ‘Friends’ Stars to Kiss on ‘Dirt’

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Gossip,
We brought you the news that Jennifer Aniston may be appearing on Courteney Cox Arquette’s FX series, Dirt. Then we confirmed Aniston’s appearance on the finale. And now… well, for anyone that ever hoped to catch any of the women from Friends in a liplock, this news is for you. Not only will Aniston appear on the season finale of Dirt, but she will also be seen kissing star Courteney Cox Arquette. So, if you thought viewership for this freshman series was going to see an uptick from Aniston’s turn as a rival magazine editor, the upcoming kiss will have viewer numbers off of the chart. The episode, which airs on March 27th, will have Aniston’s character giving what a source calls a “goodbye peck.” Okay, so it’s not a heavy kissing scene, but the source tells People magazine, “But, yes, it’s on the lips.” Further, it has been confirmed that Aniston will be playing a lesbian, according to a USA Today article.

The new drama The Wedding Bells, from David E. Kelley, will premiere on Friday, March 9 at 9:00 p.m ET. The Winner, from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, is a live-action comedy premiering on Sunday, March 4 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The show features The Daily Show correspondent Rob Corddry. Drive looks at the participants of an underground road race, and hits the network on Sunday, April 15 at 8:00 p.m. ET.
‘Til Death moves to Wednesdays, following American Idol, in March. The War at Home, moves to Sundays at 7:30 p.m. Standoff will premiere on Friday, March 30 at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Isaiah Washington Apologizes For Inappropriate Comment

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip,
Have you been following this whole blow-up over what Isaiah Washington of Grey’s Anatomy said about co-star T.R. Knight? If not, let me get you up to speed. In October, Washington and Patrick Dempsey got into an argument after Washington threw out a homophobic slur. As a result, co-star T.R. Knight officially announced to People magazine that he is gay. The whole incident wasn’t in the headlines for long, and all seemed to be well for the cast of the hit medical drama. Fast forward to the night of the Golden Globes, when Washington was asked in the press room about the comment he made—and he denied that it ever happened. Of course, this ruffled a lot of people’s feathers—Knight, for whom the comment was made, ABC, his co-stars on Grey’s Anatomy, and everyone behind the show, for that matter, and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation. As a result, Washington issued an apology, saying “I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.” Here’s my beef about celebrities—why can’t they just behave? They have it all, and yet they throw around inappropriate comments and do stupid things. No word yet on whether or not this will affect Washington’s role on Grey’s Anatomy. ABC is simply saying that his comments at the Globes were “unacceptable and are being addressed.”

Aniston and Cox Arquette Together Again

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Cable, FX, Ratings, Rumors,
We reported last week that there was a rumor that Jennifer Aniston might appear on Courtney Cox Arquette’s series, Dirt. The rumor has now been confirmed, with more details about which episode and the character Aniston will play. This appearance will mark Aniston’s first return to television since wrapping Friends in 2004. This time around, she will play rival magazine editor Tina Harrod. The exchange between her and Lucy Spiller should be fun—and good to see Aniston return to her roots. Aniston will appear in the season finale of Dirt, airing on March 27th on FX. Hmmm, sounds like there will be a bump in ratings with these two sharing the small screen again.

The 2007 Golden Globe Awards

Ladies and Gents – I can’t tell you how excited I am about the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards tonight!! It’s been a whole five months since I’ve done minute-by-minute coverage of an awards show and I’ve been dying to unload. (And yes—I am ignoring the fact that the People’s Choice Awards even exist).
The Academy Awards may get the largest viewing audience, but the Golden Globes telecast is the only one I really love to watch. A cross between the insignificant People’s Choice and the stuffy Oscars, this show mixes credibility with spontaneous fun. Yes—the Miss Golden Globe tradition is beyond lame. And yes—separating Dramas from Musicals/Comedies is something I will never understand. But knowing that I may see a star slam down a drink after bitterly losing is exciting defined.
As for who I think should win? Well, Jennifer Hudson is an absolute given. (Though Rinko Kikuchi from Babel would be a nice surprise). And it would be great to see Forest Whitaker beat out both Leo nominations. But no matter what happens, I’m ready for the ride. So bring it on!

The big buzz at the Television Critics Association press tour was the announcement by Lost producers that they are considering when to end the series. Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof, show producers, informed their audience that they were in discussions with ABC about when to call it quits on the popular series. They agreed that ending on a high note and doing the show for “as long as it’s good” are priorities. Lindelof also said, “Somewhere in the neighborhood of 90 to 100 episodes was going to be a version of Lost where we never had to do the bad season, the stall season, where we had to back off the story we wanted to tell. Season one is the introduction, season two is the hatch, season three is the Others, I don’t want to tell you what season four is going to be, and then there’s a wrap-up season.” This latest news is sure to have fans in an uproar, but honestly, how long can it go on? And how long would you want it to drag on, just for the sake of filling airtime? But when will it officially end? No word about that, but the show will have hit 93 episodes by the end of next season—with Lindelof adding, “and I imagine that would be very close to where it would end ideally.”

Katharine McPhee to Guest on Ugly Betty

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, ABC, American Idol,
Being runner-up ain’t too shabby for last season’s American Idol second place winner, Katharine McPhee. The singer will be playing herself in an upcoming guest spot on the hit show Ugly Betty. Need I remind you that Ugly Betty is a fantastic show—I hope if you weren’t a fan before, that you caught the recent marathon of it and are now hooked. McPhee will appear as a celebrity guest in the episode titled “I’m Coming Out.” The episode, which airs on February 1st at 8 p.m. will have McPhee appearing at the Mode Fashion Week runway show.
In other Katharine McPhee news, her debut album will be hitting the shelves on January 30th, so the timing with her appearance on Ugly Betty seems right on the mark. The first single, titled “Over It,” will undoubtedly be in heavy rotation on radio stations soon enough.
