On Gear Live: iPhone 16e Review: Apple Just Killed the Budget iPhone

FOX LogoForever, a best-selling novel in 2002, depicted Cormac O’Connor as a immortal man living in Manhattan. O’Connor looks for love among the city’s women, hoping to find the eternal peace he craves. Now, it’s 2007, and FOX has been touting a new series which features an immortal man living in Manhattan, who’s trying to find love. New Amsterdam, the series, isn’t supposed to be based on the book…at least, that’s what FOX execs are saying. The book character bears a scar on his shoulder, while the Amsterdam character has scars all over his torso and body. O’Connor, a fan of jazz player Art Tatum, learns to play the piano. Amsterdam also tickles the ivories, favoring jazz player Thelonious Monk. O’Connor can only return to a normal life by finding the right Manhattan babe, while Amsterdam is told he will not grow old “until you find your one.” The one’s female status is implied. The writer of the book owns the TV and movie rights to Forever, but has no plans to enter into litigation with FOX.

Description

The last time the producers of tried to introduce two new characters (remember Nikki and Paolo?), audiences hated them so much they were promptly killed off.  So with hesitance I say that five new players are being brought on this upcoming season.  Of course, we don’t necessarily know their roles or how long they will stay.  Maybe they will pull a Bai Ling and exit quickly.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reports that these actors include Jeff Fahey (Lawnmower Man, ), Jeremy Davies (a.k.a the skinny guy in Saving Private Ryan), Lance Reddick (), Ken Leung (X-Men: The Last Stand) and Rebecca Mader (Justice).  The show’s still got two more years to go—so I guess someone’s gonna to have to die.  Any bets as to which one in this bunch will be the first?  I’m gonna go for the skinny guy (Davies).

Reminder, Lost does not start until mid-season….so don’t be waiting for it in September.

Veronica Mars, star of the now-defunct Veronica Mars, has found a new home on NBC’s .  She accepted the role after weighing another offer to be on ABC’s Is she that

good?  Apparently she smartly realized that it was best to join a series that was still on an upswing.

While Bell’s character, Elle, is still a bit of a mystery…we do know that she has ties to Peter, H.R.G and Claire.  We also know that she will have a power.  Having never been a viewer of her old show, I really know nothing about Bell—aside from her horrible rendition of ‘Fame’ on the 2005 .  Here’s to hoping her presence will not come with an equally loud thud.

Expect to see the addition of Elle this October.

The NineBack in November, I lamented the loss of a great show, The Nine. ABC put the series on hiatus right when the mysteries started kicking in.  What really happened inside the bank??  I had kept the Season Pass request in my Tivo hoping that someday it would pick up a new episode.  After a few months of waiting, I finally hit delete.

Needless to say, I was ecstatic to hear that ABC would air the remaining episodes starting this week.  Unfortunately the news is a bit bittersweet.  While I’m happy to get new pieces of the puzzle—knowing that six is all I will get is torturous.  I hate being teased…but I’m still a glutton for punishment.

Reset your Tivo for this Wednesday @ 10pm.

Lost Lost fans will be glad to hear that Harold Perrineau is returning to the series when it returns in January 2008. Strange, considering he spent the entire last season off of the show, leading many to believe that his ship may have just sailed off into who-knows-where. The news broke at the Television Critics Association, although it was supposed to be revealed at Comic-Con. If you recall from the end of season two, Michael Dawson (Perrineau) shot both Libby (Cynthia Watros) and Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) and delivered Jack, Kate and Sawyer in exhange for The Others setting him and his son Walt free from the island. And off his boat sailed into the sunset, never to be seen again—at least not on the third season of the series. Of course, Lost fans will cling to this nugget of info and any others we can get during the long wait until January’s season four premiere. No details (of course) on where we’ll see Michael, meaning back on the island or in the future post-island world. More details about the upcoming season of Lost are expected at today’s Comic-Con convention.

Danny GloverDanny Glover will be joining the cast of Brothers & Sisters this fall, playing Nora’s (Sally Field) love interest. No word on how many episodes he’ll appear, but it is a recurring role, so expect him around for a few at least. I’m excited to see Glover, but wonder how his relationship with Field’s character will play out. I was slightly disappointed by her coupling with Peter Coyote last season—it just seemed to fall flat. Of course, whenever I see Glover, I immediately think of Lethal Weapon. Case in point, we watched the movie Shooter the other night and what’s the first thing my husband and I see when Danny Glover is on screen? “I’m gettin’ too old for this sh*t.” Without fail—everytime he’s in a movie, that’s what comes to mind. So, I’ve got to get over that when he’s on Brothers & Sisters! Glover last appeared on the small screen in 2005 on ER, playing Mekhi Phifer’s father.

Clay AikenCan you believe that Clay Aiken is trying to take credit for the revival of the canceled series Jericho? Apparently, Aiken was a big fan of the show and rallied on his blog for his faithful fans (known as Claymates) to take action. He told The Houston Chronicle, “The show Jericho... I loved it. I started blogging about it on my fan site. It got canceled, and I blogged about how upset I was. I said, ‘The Claymates can do anything. How do we get this show back on the air?’” Was Aiken’s message to his fans the impetus that got the whole peanut craze started? If you recall, once the show was canceled, lots o’ peanuts made their way to the CBS offices in reference to a line from the show. Lo and behold, the net announced that Jericho would be coming back to the air waves. The power of nuts. And Claymates, it seems. Aiken said, “Honestly, within a week [the Claymates] had organized a campaign amongst Jericho fans to send nuts to CBS. It kind of started in that place. And it’s back on the air! It just blows my mind.” Hmmm. Is Clay Aiken taking too much credit for the show’s return? Does he have that crazy a fanbase that they will just do whatever he commands? I’m not so sure I’m a believer.

Nathan Fillion Desperate Housewives is about to have a new couple move to Wisteria Lane. Dana Delany, who was most recently seen on Kidnapped, was originally approached to play the part of Bree Van De Kamp (now Bree Hodge) on Housewives. I don’t know about you, but I can’t imagine anyone doing as great a job with that role as Marcia Cross. She is, to sound completely stupid, “delicious.” I love the way she plays that uptight character and to be honest, I think she was the only thing getting me through the stale second season of the show. Delany is in discussions now with ABC to join the upcoming fourth season, as well as Nathan Fillion who is well-loved by fans of Firefly and last season’s Drive. The two will play husband and wife, with Lyndsy Fonseca (who plays Future Ted’s daughter on How I Met Your Mother) joining the cast as their daughter.
