Jackson-Themed So You Think You Can Dance Planned

Michael Jackson in Thriller video

Next week, FOX will pay tribute to the King of Pop’s musical library. Now the network is planning to honor his contributions to dance.

Hours after Michael Jackson’s death, plans for a special So You Think You Can Dance were in the works. Based on a series of tweets started by Nigel Lythgoe, we may soon see an MJ-themed broadcast with numbers from Wade Robson (a former Jackson back-up dancer), Mia MIchaels…and former Janet Jackson-choreographer .

Nigel Lythgoe (dizzyfeet): “@PaulaAbdul along with@adammshankman I follow you too. Will you choreograph an MJ tribute for us this week?”

Nigel: “People please use Twitter-Power. Ask @PaulaAbdul to choreograph a Michael Jackson tribute on SYTYCD. Ask @adammshankman to return my photo”

Paula Abdul (paulaabdul): “@dizzyfeet Have your people call my people Nigel and let’s do it! lol”

Nigel: “@PaulaAbdul I would get my people to call yours? But I have 2 issues. 1. I don’t know who your people are? 2. I haven’t got any people? xox”

Nigel: “At the same time as auditioning we’re trying to put together a major tribute to him Michael’s music works in every dance genre for the show”

Nigel: “Mia has chosen the song she likes, we’ve spoken to Wade. I’ve left messages for Paula. I’ve spoken to Shane. We have to make this happen!!?”

Nigel: “There is a problem clearing Michael’s music at the moment. We are trying to make contact with Sony to get clearance on an all Michael SYTYCD”

Nigel: “If we can make this ‘special’ happen it is thanks to many of you ‘Tweeters’ out there who all had the same idea. ‘Twitter-Power’ is awesome!”

Nigel: “Don’t get carried away everyone. It won’t be the NEXT show these things take time to organize, clear and choreograph. I’ll keep you posted.”

Nigel: “To the guy who called the idea of the ‘Special’ ‘opportunistic.’ you’re an @#*hole.”

Adam Shankman - SYTYCD judge (adammshankman): “And though I know nothing, I’m sure a MJ tribute is in the works on sytycd. He inspired 2 generations of dancers, and redefined the artform”

Adam: “Wade Robson started out dancing for MJ, so he should be heavily involved. MJ was a game changer.”
