Jack White to Release New Solo Album?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Upcoming Releases, Alternative, Folk, Rock,
Jack White has hinted he is finishing his next solo album.
The former White Stripes frontman teased fans during an online chat at the weekend on the website message board for his label, Third Man Records: "I'm producing two albums this month, and finishing them... One of them is mine."
It is believed he is referring to a solo album, which would follow-up his 2012 release Blunderbuss, which featured tracks including "Love Interruption," "Sixteen Saltines" and "Trash Tongue Talker."
In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine last year, the 38-year-old musician mentioned that he had between 20 and 25 songs already written: "It's definitely not one sound. It's definitely several. Like you heard in Blunderbuss, there's many different styles there. I don't pick my style and then write a song. I just write whatever comes out of me, and whatever style it is is what it is, and it becomes something later."

The Smiths Drummer Mike Joyce Wants a Reunion
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Reunions, Rumors, Rock,
The Smiths' former drummer Mike Joyce insists he will never read Morrissey's autobiography.
The 50-year-old musician was with the band until they split in 1987 and later sued Morrissey and Johnny Marr over unpaid royalties, which is discussed in the book. Speaking to the new issue of Q magazine, Mike said, "I've not read the book, and I never will. I've got a pretty good idea of what's in there. I don't want to go down that route of putting out a statement saying that this or that is wrong."
However, he added that he would still be keen to take part in a Smiths reunion, saying, "Of course, we'd all do it we were asked. We were one of the greatest bands ever. As a performer, there was nobody better than Morrissey. But a reunion is never going to happen."
In November last year Johnny Marr was joined onstage by his former bandmate Andy Rourke in New York. The bass player accompanied him on two Smiths songs, "How Soon Is Now?" and "Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want," during Johnny's sold out headline show at Webster Hall in Manhattan.

Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison insists he did not quit the band and was left "blindsided" by the news.
The 38-year-old musician played in the Grammy-Award winning heavy metal act since their formation in 1995 and was co-songwriter with frontman Corey Taylor. A statement on the band's website last month cited "personal reasons" for his departure but he has now refuted claims he had decided to quit.
"To my fans, friends and associates. I would like to start the New Year by addressing the recent rumors and speculation regarding my departure from Slipknot. I want to make it very clear that I DID NOT QUIT SLIPKNOT," he wrote in a statement posted on Facebook. "This band has been my life for the past 18 years, and I would never abandon it, or my fans. This news has blindsided me as much as it has all of you. While there is much I would like to say, I must remain silent to further details at this time. I would like to thank you all for your unwavering love and support, and wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year."

Mumford and Sons Pretend to Be Irish
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Gossip, Alternative, Folk, Rock,
Mumford and Sons say convincing people they're Irish is the secret of their success.
The "I Will Wait" band is from England, but their use of traditional instruments - including accordion, mandolin and double bass - and close harmonies means some people mistake them for being from neighboring Ireland. "Everyone thinks we're Irish. There's an Irish bar in every town - it's the secret of our success," keyboard player Ben Lovett said.
Banjo player Winston Marshall also points out the roots of their sound and some of their instruments, such as the banjo, aren't even from Europe, adding, "We're in a long line of English people pretending to be Americans and not being as good as Americans."
The band - also including Marcus Mumford and Ted Dwayne - are known for spending long periods touring around the world, particularly in the US, but aren't huge fans of having to do it in a bus. "I went camping on a stag weekend and hated it. [And] you can't s**t on the bus. You still brush your teeth outside and spit it out, just like on a campsite," Marcus added.

Bruce Springsteen’s New Album Leaks on Amazon
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Leaks, Upcoming Releases, Rock, Amazon MP3 Store,
Bruce Springsteen's new album leaked on Amazon at the weekend.
The musical legend's upcoming LP High Hopes was briefly available on the online retailer's mobile website on Saturday for fans to download the tracks individually on MP3. The album originally wasn't due for release until January 13, and Amazon has since realized the error and taken down the album. However, it is believed fans have already placed the songs on a number of illegal file sharing sites.
High Hopes, which was recorded in New Jersey, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Australia and New York City, features Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello on numerous tracks, as well as a cover of Suicide's "Dream Baby Dream."
Meanwhile, the 64-year-old star recently admitted the record was put together in an abnormal manner, unlike other artists who have a structure. "The best way to describe this record is that it's a bit of an anomaly. But not much. I don't really work linearly, like a lot of people do," he previously said earlier this month.

Black Sabbath isn't convinced they should record another album.
The legendary rock group featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler released 13, their first album in 18 years earlier this year but they aren't committing to a follow-up.
"To me, it's been nicely rounded off now. If we did another album, it just wouldn't have the same vibe as far as I'm concerned. And with this one doing so well, the next one would have to be number one everywhere too or people would see it as a failure," Geezer said.

Chris Wright Refused to Sign David Bowie
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Industry News, Alternative, Rock,
Record producer Chris Wright refused to sign David Bowie, whom he now considers to be "one of the greatest recording artists of all time."
The founder of Chrysalis Records had the 66-year-old star constantly "pleading" with him and visiting his London office in the early 70s in the hopes of getting signed however Chris would pretend to be out when David called. "David Bowie was in our Oxford Street office, in London, all the time, often pleading for money to go and make demos. He'd come in with his wife, Angie, who appeared to wear the trousers. Our receptionist would ring around - but we would all pretend to be out! Thankfully we did agree to take 25% of his publishing rights until 70 years after his death. We missed out on signing one of the greatest recording artists of all time but at least he helped our publishing wing get off to a brilliant start," he recalls.

Ozzy Osbourne: I Slip on Stage Every Night
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Performances, Reunions, Rock, New Releases,
Ozzy Osbourne saw a dog at one of his concerts wearing a sign that read, "Please don't eat me!"
The legendary hellraiser, who famously bit the head off a bat on stage in 1982, said there have been many surreal moments during this year's Black Sabbath reunion tour. "At one of this year's gigs, somebody let a dog go with a sign on its leg saying, 'Please don't eat me!'" he told The Sun.
Ozzy spoke about winding up his band mates, including bassist and chief Sabbath lyricist Geezer Butler. "Geezer is a vegetarian. When he walked off the stage, I said, 'Does your wife eat meat?' And he replies, 'Yeah.' So I said, 'What, do you have a funeral every time she has a bacon sandwich?'" he explained.
Ozzy, who has been sober for nearly a year after relapsing into drink and drugs, said he's nearly injured himself on stage every night and is shocked by the band's massive success after releasing their monumental album 13 and being nominated for three Grammy Awards: "Every night, I've slipped on the stage. I nearly fell in the f***ing orchestra pit. I mean it's tough on the other guys. When they're all getting serious, I make them laugh and they all get p***ed off. Nothing's rehearsed with me. One day, I'll just put a bucked on my head. 'Just when you think things might be winding up, it gets bigger than ever. Honestly I'm in shock. I keep thinking I'm the luckiest guy in the world. It's been a dream."

Quote of the Day: Katy Perry on Communicating with John Mayer
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Gossip, Alternative, Country, Folk, Pop, Rock,
"I understood that he couldn't talk, and the only way he could communicate was through an iPad. Some days I have to go on complete vocal rest, like no anything, no whispering. Whispering is actually really bad. There's just a lot of silence in our house most of the time... We should just learn sign language."
- In an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Katy Perry talks about the arrangements she and boyfriend John Mayer have to make at home to rest their vocal cords.
