Missy ElliottMissy Elliott releases two comeback singles today. The rapper's first new songs since 2005, "Triple Threat" and "9th Inning," were both produced by Timbaland and mark her return as a solo artist after being diagnosed with thyroid disorder Graves' disease last year. Missy will also release new album, tentatively titled Block Party, later this year.

Describing the new record in a UStream interview with fans, she said, "I like to call it theatrical hip-hop. It's not [1999 album] Da Real World all over again, but just the dramatics of the real world is the feeling that I get from this album."

The star has also distanced herself from a project to posthumously release tracks by singer Aaliyah, whom she and Timbaland worked closely with before her death in a plane crash in 2001. "Until [her family] come and say we're ready to do an Aaliyah album, then I don't really want to try and get into that because it's really sensitive," she said.

PinkPink wrote a song about an argument over butter. The singer explained how "Just Give Me a Reason" on her new album, The Truth About Love, is inspired by the small signals a person can give when a relationship is breaking down.

"Sometimes [one partner] can be like, 'The way you passed me the butter this morning, I kinda feel like we're going to be over in a month and we need to talk' and he's like, 'I just passed you the f***ing butter, what are you talking about?' and that's how I felt the song should go, 'We're growing apart, you don't spoon any more, like it's all over.'"

Pink - who is happily married to motorcyclist Carey Hart - wrote the track with Nate Ruess from the band Fun and decided it should be a duet, but had to trick him into singing it. "I was like, 'No, this is a story, this is a conversation this song' - it needs the other perspective whether it's a guy and a girl, or two girls or two guys. I came in and tried to convince him that this was how the conversation was going to go and it was interesting you know, he was like 'I'll just do the demo cos I don't know about duets,' and I totally tricked him into doing it, and I am so glad I was able to. I think now he's very happy that he did it, I think it's a beautiful song and I'm really, really proud of it," she added.

Avril LavigneAvril Lavigne is putting the finishing touches to her new album.

The "Complicated" singer has been working with Nickelback's Chad Kroeger - now her fiance - on her fifth album, and is currently at the stage of mixing the tracks. "We're in the mixing process now and I expect to release it very soon. I'd like to get it out this year, but time seems to be flying. If we don't, it will be [beginning] of the new year. She worked with Chad Kroeger and they did a really good record," L.A. Reid, boss of Avril's label, Epic Records, told Billboard.

Avril, 27, and Chad, 37, met when they started working on her album together and dated for six months before getting engaged. Chad has said he feels like the "luckiest person alive" to be with Avril, and admitted he knew their working partnership was turning into something else: "I knew I was falling for her. It was incredibly powerful and something I'll never forget. I feel like the luckiest person alive because I get to be with my best friend every day."

Diplo and Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg chose Diplo to produce his reggae album as he is his only friend who knows the genre. The rapper - rebranding himself as Snoop Lion for the project - wanted to make a more "adult" record, and called on Diplo after being impressed with his work.

Speaking at the launch of Red Bull Culture Clash, Diplo told BANG Showbiz, "He hit me up, I was like the only person he knew that knew anything about reggae, and so we just met a couple of times and it became a really good idea to do this. We worked before on his last album, and he said, he wanted to do something that's a bit more adult." Diplo said Snoop got excited after he played him a song by his dancehall project Major Lazer, which convinced him to adopt a reggae sound.

BeyonceBeyonce's 4 album "made more sense" to Diplo once he found out she was pregnant.

The producer and his DJ partner Switch worked on two tracks on the album, first single "Run the World (Girls)" and "End of Time," and although he was initially confused by why it was such an "adult" album, he grew to love it. "When it first came out, I wished I had worked on more of the record, but after a year passed I became a huge fan. We knew the two records that we did, but when it came out it had all those ballads, and then I realized, it made a lot more sense when I found out she was pregnant. In the studio I didn't know really where she was with her attitude but it's a very adult record. She's made a lot of dance and club records, but this whole album is a very adult record, and in retrospect I really appreciate it a lot, more than I did when I first heard it," he said.

Seth MacFarlaneFamily Guy creator Seth MacFarlane is releasing an album.

The cartoonist's debut, "Music Is Better Than Words," sees him sing a number of 40s and 50s big band tracks, including teaming up for duets with artists including Norah Jones and Sara Bareilles.

"It's rare in this day and age to have the opportunity to create an album that celebrates the classic, sophisticated sound of rich, lush swing orchestrations. It was an absolute joy to sing this music," Seth said.

In addition to show tunes, Seth - whose comedies also include American Dad! and The Cleveland Show - also recorded some newer material, including the song "She's Wonderful Too," originally written by film and television composer Joel McNeely, but with additional lyrics and melodies by Seth.
