Sinead O’Connor Cancels 2012 Tour
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Alternative,
Sinead O'Connor has cancelled the remainder of her 2012 tour.
The "Wolf is Getting Married" hitmaker - who has suffered a series of public breakdowns and relationship issues with husband Barry Herridge in recent months - has claimed it is with "regret" she is ending the tour but is doing so because of "bipolar disorder."
"With enormous regret I must announce that I have to cancel all touring for the year as am very unwell due to bi polar disorder. As you all know I had a very serious breakdown between December and March and I had been advised by my doctor not to go on tour but didn't want to 'fail' or let anyone down as the tour was already booked to coincide with album release. So very stupidly I ignored his advice to my great detriment, attempting to be stronger than I actually am. I apologize sincerely for any difficulties this may cause. While touring will be cancelled I do hope and plan to appear at the Curtis Mayfield tribute in The Lincoln Centre in July.(sic)" she wrote on her website.

Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love Duet Appears Online
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Collaborations, Leaks, Alternative, Rock,
A duet between Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love has surfaced online. The late Nirvana singer and his wife can be heard singing together on the track, "Stinking of You," which was never released, but appears in a new documentary film about Patty Schemel, former drummer with Courtney's band Hole.
In the video clip, Courtney can be seen playing an acoustic guitar while she and Kurt sing. The couple's daughter, Frances Bean, looks on. The documentary in which the song appears is called, Hit So Hard: The Life And Near Death Story Of Patty Schemel, and tells the story of the drummer and her self-destructive streak, as well as the Seattle music scene which spawned grunge in the early 90s.
Last week former Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson claimed Kurt had recorded enough material for a solo album before he committed suicide in 1994: "He was headed in a direction that was really cool. He was going towards, a solo album but working with different people. I was really excited about some of the stuff he was working on. I got to see him play it in front of me. That's why I was really sad when he died. He was cut short. Who knows where this music would have gone?"

Jack White Improvised Entire Track

Jack White improvised one of the songs on his new record on the spot.
The singer is about to release his first solo album, Blunderbuss, and was keen to challenge himself, so invited some musicians over and composed one of the tracks spontaneously.
"I had six sessions musicians invited to come in in the morning, and I had no song, I had no idea, nothing. And I went in the room and I pretended like I had a song. I sat down at the piano and played a C chord and then an F and thought, 'I gotta write something. Right now, right now!' These aren't friends of mine, they're studio session musicians waiting for me to tell them what to play. That forced me to do something I would never have done!" he told NPR.
Jack - who previously fronted The White Stripes - recorded the album with a number of different musicians, both session players and friends, including an all female band and an all male band, and was interested by how the dynamic of the recordings changed depending on the sex of the players.

Mark Foster Doesn’t Feel Song Pressure
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Alternative, Rock,
Mark Foster never feels under pressure when making music. The Foster The People frontman has enjoyed success recently with hit single "Pumped Up Kicks," but insists he isn't worried about emulating it when it comes to writing new songs.
"I never let that stuff influence me. It's out of our control. If people like it, then cool. I wrote 'Don't Stop' just like I wrote 'Pumped Up Kicks' - I didn't try to make either a hit, I just wanted to write a song I liked," he said.
Mark also revealed how he would happily wrote a song for the winner of American Idol even though he would never audition for the talent show himself.
"To try out for American Idol. I never did that. I heard that all the time when I went home to Ohio. My aunts and uncles were like, 'You've got such a great voice - why don't you try out for American Idol?' I'd say, 'Because I'm a songwriter, not a puppet.' Even if I won and became really successful off a show like that, I'd be miserable. I'd rather be a poor singer/songwriter doing what I love than get rich from selling my soul. But I'd write for any of them. I can step into their world without attaching myself to it. I don't have to get up there. Writing for other people is easier than writing for myself - it's not as personal," he replied when asked what was the worst piece of advice he'd been given.

Avril Lavigne Uses Food to Forget Pop
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Alternative, Pop,
Avril Lavigne cooks to forget the pressures of her music career. The 27-year-old singer's favorite ways to relax and take her mind off her pop star lifestyle are spending time in her kitchen making food for other people and channeling her creativity into painting.
"I love to paint huge abstract canvases and hang them up in my house. I don't watch much TV but I love to cook. I cook as much as I can. When I'm home I cook all the time and when I'm on tour I cook for my band on the bus. It makes me happy."
When she is cooking, Avril loves to accompany her food with a glass of red wine, and there is a particular bottle she is desperate to try, but thinks it is too expensive: "I like to drink red wine. One bottle of wine I'd love to try is Californian red Screaming Eagle. The problem is it costs $5,000."
Despite her quiet habits, Avril insists she is still a "rock star." She added, "Put it this way, there's a reason why I tattooed 'f**k' on my ribcage. It is and always will be one of my favorite words. Seriously. I am a rock star. F**k it."

Green Day Releasing Three Albums
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Release Dates, Upcoming Releases, Alternative, Rock,
Green Day are releasing a trilogy of albums.
The American Idiot pop-punk group claim to have had the most prolific period of creativity in their career, and are lining up the albums, titled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! for release in September 25, November 13 and next January 15 respectively.
"This is the best music we've ever written, and the songs just keep coming. Instead of making one album, we are making a three album trilogy. Every song has the power and energy that represents Green Day on all emotional levels. We just can't help ourselves. We are going epic as f**k!" the band said in a statement.
The band - Bille Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool - have been recording in their hometown of Oakland, California with producer Rob Cavallo, who worked with them on 2004's American Idiot.

Kasabian Wants to be Like Radiohead

Kasabian want to keep reinventing themselves "like Radiohead."
The "Days Are Forgotten" group look up to their peers and they way they have evolved their sound on every album and use it as a guide for their own career.
"We always try to reinvent ourselves in the way that a band like Radiohead would do. Or we come at things from another angle," said singer Tom Meighan.
Tom added that the band - completed by Sergio Pizzorno, Chris Edwards, Ian Matthews and Jay Mehler - wanted to try more simple songwriting on their latest album Velociraptor!, after the psychedelic edge of their third album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum.
"West Ryder was our concept record. We were gonna make our crazy, psychedelia record, which it was, with all these crazy songs in it and then Velociraptor! was back to normal, 'back-to-basic' songwriting. Good songwriting, good pop songs," he said.

The Killers wouldn't have started if it wasn't for Nirvana.
The "Somebody Told Me" band's bassist, Mark Stoermer, didn't get into rock music until he heard the grunge group, and spent his formative years as a musician trying to teach himself how to play their songs.
"Nirvana are definitely the band that got me into rock and 'Come as You Are' is the first song I learned how to play. I remember sitting down and trying to figure it out. I don't even know if I would have tried to play the bass or guitar if it wasn't for Nirvana, because I spent a lot of time just learning by ear."
Mark was a huge fan of the whole grunge scene - centered around Seattle - and his first ever live show was seeing a rather surreal experience at a Pearl Jam concert: "I was really into the grunge movement which was happening when I was 16. The Pearl Jam show was a totally different experience for me, because I'd never seen a band with guitars live on stage. I remember Eddie Vedder sang 'My Way' with an Elvis impersonator."

The Cure Won’t Release New Songs
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Alternative, Rock,
The Cure don't want to "capitalize" on their success by a releasing a new album.
The "Love Cats" band are headlining a number of major festivals over the summer, but have resisted requests to accompany the shows with new material because they would rather focus on putting on a good performance.
"We've been going for so long that we don't feel the urge to capitalize on everything all the time. I mean, we're headlining pretty much every major European festival and we won't have anything released. Anyone else would be tearing their hair out. They'll be like, 'You're idiots!' And perhaps we are. It's almost like we've gone full circle and we're back to the point where we're playing England's Reading and Leeds festivals and I'm solely doing it because I want to be a good day," singer Robert Smith said.
The singer - who has fronted the band since they formed in the 1977 - added he's not interested in releasing new songs unless they can stand up to the strength of the band's back catalogue:
