The 24 movie will begin shooting in spring. 20th Century Fox have given the go-ahead to the big screen spin-off of the popular TV series - which came to an end after eight series earlier this year - with a proposed schedule hinged on when renowned writer Mark Bomback delivers a new version of Billy Ray's original screen play.
Mark is expected to submit his script early in the new year, meaning filming on the movie - which will see Kiefer Sutherland return to the role of Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) agent Jack Bauer - can begin a few months later. According to Deadline.com, the studio currently has around five directors in mind to helm the project, which has been in the pipeline for several years.
Kiefer has previously spoken of his "excitement" about the film, which will see 24 change from its usual real-time format in order to cope with the limitations of cinema: "It is going to be a two-hour representation of a 24 hour day, so we were not going to be restrained by the real time aspect of the TV show. With the TV show we always had to have the crisis come to us because we couldn't move. Twice we put Jack on a plane and it was a disaster. This will be different - it will be very feasible to get from Eastern Europe to England in the course of 24 hours! And the crisis can be more personal - it doesn't have to be a huge bomb, it doesn't have to take out the rest of the world. It's very exciting."

Les Miserables to Be 2-D

Les Miserables will be shot in 2-D so viewers don't "physically struggle."
Director Tom Hooper - who won an Oscar for his work on The King's Speech - was "tempted" to use 3-D technology in the forthcoming blockbuster but decided against it because he wanted to make a film that would "connect with everyone."
"I can definitely announce it's good old-fashioned 2-D. I did test 3-D and I was very tempted - I think it is a very interesting new form. One of the things I'm most proud of with The King's Speech is how it managed to connect with everyone, whether you're eight or 80 years old. So I slightly worry with 3-D that some people will physically struggle with it. If you have a certain type of eyesight it can be more demanding than watching a normal movie. With a two-and-a-half hour film, I didn't want to make something that anyone might think 'That's not for me, because I don't like the medium.'"

Angelina Jolie "wasn't afraid" to take advice from her cast and crew on her directorial debut. The Oscar-winning actress' movie In The Land of Blood and Honey tells the tale of a romance between a Serbian soldier and Bosnian Muslim woman set in the Yugoslav wars and ensured it was as authentic as possible by quizzing the local actors and behind-the-scenes staff she hired for the project.
"I wasn't afraid to ask the DP [director of photography]. And I listened to my cast, most of whom lived through the war. I listened to their stories and tried to incorporate it into the work. [I] read a lot of books about the war. I talked to a lot of people, I watched, I listened. I just wanted to tell the real story. I wanted to be respectful of people. [If I did not know something,] I asked."

Behold, the 8-minute long, new trailer for David Fincher's The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.
While it serves as a more in-depth look at the plot for viewers who haven't seen the Swedish original, the new trailer also confirms for those who have seen the 2009 adaptation that Fincher isn't straying too far from the material. Additionally, it's always nice to get some extra footage of Rooney Mara being a general badass as Lisabeth Salander.
The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - which also stars Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarsgard, and Christopher Plummer - comes out in theaters on December 21.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum Michelle Trachtenberg recently revealed that she could have portrayed Bella Swan in Twilight, had it not been for scheduling conflicts.
Trachtenberg, known for her roles in the vampire series as well as Gossip Girl, opened up about the opportunity: "There was definitely interest here and there because there's only so few pale girls in Hollywood... I guess schedules never worked out."
She was, however, quick to point out that she doesn't have any regrets about turning down the role, which later went to Kristen Stewart: "I already have Buffy. I've already done the vampire thing."
When asked about how her life and career would be different if she had taken the part, she would rather not think about it altogether: "You're not living in the moment and you're looking negatively at what you're doing now."

Tom Hiddleston felt like he was having a "group hug" on the set of The Avengers.
The British actor portrays his Thor' character Loki in the forthcoming Marvel comic book movie, and while the film's big cast - including Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth - was slightly intimidating at first, he admits the group got along famously quickly.
"For the first 10 minutes after you meet them, they have the wattage and charisma of movie stars. Then you have a coffee with them and you realize we're all the same, we're all just people. All of the actors in The Avengers are so nice. Marvel has these code names for projects and the code name for The Avengers was Group Hug. It felt very much like a group hug on set."
Tom - who is the villain of the film - admits his favorite part of the movie was getting to do his own stunts: "My favorite moment on set was filming at a NASA location the size of a cathedral. I flew around like a trapeze artist in a rocket-testing facility in the company of Samuel L. Jackson and Jeremy Renner. That was a pretty good day at work."

Director Ken Russell has died. The Oscar-nominated filmmaker passed away in hospital at the age of 84 on Sunday night after suffering from a series of strokes, his son Alex Verney-Elliott confirmed.
"My father died peacefully. He had had a series of strokes. He died with a smile on his face," Verney-Elliott said.
Russell is famous for making several controversial films, including Women In Love - which became famous for featuring a scene in which Oliver Reed and Alan Bates wrestled naked and earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director - religious drama The Devils, The Music Lovers, and The Who's iconic rock opera Tommy.
Tributes to him have started to pour in from the movie industry with his friend and fellow filmmaker Michael Winner, 76, describing him as an artist who "pushed the barriers completely." Winner - who had been friends with Russell since 1968 - said, "Among many achievements that spring to mind, he made British cinema less insular and self-referential. He was also a leading creative force in the history of British television. He will be widely mourned... He pushed the barriers completely and got away with it sometimes and didn't others, but he made some startling movies. He had an eye for the composition of each image on the screen - a great eye for imagery and then, of course, he had a great idea for the grotesque."
