Let the Oscar buzz begin.
Meryl Streep will go to work next month to film The Iron Lady, a biopic focusing on Britain’s former prime minister Margaret Thatcher, who served from 1979 to 1990.
“She’s perfect casting in many ways,” Jim Broadbent, who plays Thatcher’s husband Denis, said of Streep. “She’ll absolutely do it in a brilliant way.”
Margaret Thatcher was Britian’s first female prime minister, and her gender will be a central thesis of the film.
Meryl Streep is an American by birth and citizenship, and her costar says she’ll bring a unique point of view to the script.
“She can bring an outsider’s view of the story, so that it won’t become a lazy, parochial piece that Brits understand but where nobody else really knows what’s going on.”

We tried to warn screenwriter/producer Charles Casillo -- who recently told the press that his Dogs in Pocketbooks character is “a role obviously based on Lindsay Lohan” -- that Dina Lohan wasn't going to go easy on him, but we never expected him to fold so quickly.
The comedic movie features a “a bratty movie goddess in and out of rehab, in trouble with the law, and hounded by greedy agents, predatory paparazzi, off-the-wall stalkers and crazed media.” The role will be played by Lydia Hearst. But now, Casillo says that the reports about his character are “totally blown out of proportion.”

Portman revealed this and more details of what it was like to film Black Swan, a unique thriller set in the mysterious world of the professional ballet.

Publishing industry heiress Lydia Hearst, well-known model, will play a Lindsay Lohan-like character in Dogs in Pocketbooks, a “screwball comedy” written by Charles Casillo.
Charles says the socialite will play “a bratty movie goddess in and out of rehab, in trouble with the law, and hounded by greedy agents, predatory paparazzi, off-the-wall stalkers and crazed media -- a role obviously based on Lindsay Lohan.” (Ooooh, be careful, Casillo -- Dina Lohan may sue you for that.)
He says “Lydia is perfect” in the role.
Joan Collins also stars in the movie as a powerful agent.

Box Office Breakdown: Big Win for Little Fockers

A lack of a clear plot apparently meant very little to theatergoers this past weekend.
Little Fockers, which added another $30.8 million in ticket sales ($45.1 million since Wednesday) to the Fockers series, finished in first place after the holiday frame. Although the Ben Stiller/Robert De Niro production failed to top Meet the Fockers’ debut in 2004 ($46.1 million), the comedy did bring in more than the 2000 original. (Meet the Parents opened to $28.6 million.)
Meanwhile, the Jeff Bridges from the past found himself passing the Jeff Bridges from the future. True Grit, costarring Matt Damon and Hailee Steinfeld, roped in $24.9 million – the best number for the Coen brothers to date – and second place. The Western wound up landing just one notch above Tron, Bridges’ current sci-fi entry.
