Although he currently stars in Little Fockers, Robert De Niro has still been deemed a good judge of movies.
De Niro – a co-founder of the Tribeca Film Festival – has just been named jury president of the 64th Annual Cannes Film Festival.
The Oscar winner, whose appointment comes one year after Tim Burton served as president, will head a nine-member panel.
"The Cannes Film Festival is a rare opportunity for me as it is one of the oldest and one of the best in the world," De Niro stated.
The 2011 event will be held from May 11-22.

Now that Arnold Schwarzenegger's run as the governor of California has ended, what will he do next?
While it might be safe to assume that he would return to show business, it's not really clear if he ever left at all.
In this video from Jimmy Kimmel Live, the former Terminator can be seen exploiting every title and quote from his IMDB page ... over and over again. We can only hope that he does return to acting now so he'll have some fresh material to use.

Their film didn't top the box office, nor did it have the best per screen average -- but Joel and Ethan Coen still have reason to smile.
True Grit, a two-time second-place finisher, has now grossed $86.7 million domestically -- a new record for the writing/directing duo. The Western, which added another $24.4 million to its total this past weekend, has officially surpassed the Coen brothers' previous record. (No Country for Old Men, released in 2007, raised $74.3 million.)
The only other notable item in the Top Ten this week was The King's Speech. The critically-acclaimed film replaced The Tourist in the tenth-place spot and averaged $11,108 per theater.

Gwyneth Paltrow ran into some obstacles while trying to identify with her character in Country Song.
"I just couldn't understand how you could be so drunk that you could wreck people's lives and then wake up the next day and pretend everything was fine," she said.
Gwyneth revealed how she prepped for the film in a recent interview.
Paltrow wanted real insight into addiction, and how it affects the user as well as those around them. So, she went to someone with real life experience: Iron Man co-star Robert Downey, Jr.
“He was really articulate about addiction and the psychology behind it. He really helped me a lot.”

Quote of the Day: Rupert Everett on Jennifer Aniston’s Career

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Romance, Comedy, Celebrity Gossip,
"If you look and analyze the careers of many, many stars, you'll find that they're mostly sustained by the business. You'll find there's lots of women and lots of men in the business that the powers that be decide are right for their business, and they'll stand with them for quite a long time. ... OK, something will go wrong, like Jennifer Aniston will have one too many total flops, but she's still a member of that club. And she will still manage to ... like a star forming in the universe, things will swirl around her and it will suddenly solidify into another vital tasteless rom-com, a little glitter next to the Crab Nebula."
-Outspoken actor Rupert Everett commenting on Jennifer Aniston's penchant for mildly successful romantic comedies.

Iron Man will need a director to help get him off the ground in the next sequel.
Jon Favreau, the man behind the first two installments, recently announced that he won’t be participating on Iron Man 3.
It’s unclear exactly why Favreau has chosen to leave the successful franchise, but it’s believed a lack of direction – and his growing paycheck – were both factors.

A Restart for Firestarter

About Last Night isn’t the only '80s film that will get a possible remake. Variety reports that Universal and Dino De Laurentiis Co. are looking to fire up a new version of Firestarter.
In the original 1984 film, Drew Barrymore played Charlie, an 8-year-old girl who could make her hair – and major sparks – fly when she was really upset. Her powers were a result of experiments that were done on her parents prior to her birth. The movie -- an adaptation of a Stephen King novel -- also starred David Keith, Martin Sheen and George C. Scott.
Although details of the script are unknown, it will supposedly be loosely-based on the original story.
"We see this as a unique, character-driven thriller with a supernatural edge, based on a timeless concept and enhanced by recent visual effects advances," Martha De Laurentiis stated.
Mark L. Smith (Vacancy) has been tapped to write the screenplay.
