In The Day the Earth Stood Still, stars as Klaatu, a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth with a robot companion.  The two have a warning to deliver to the world’s leaders.

Those familiar with the 1951 original should know this remake will come with a slightly different message. In an interview with MTV, Reeves said, “The version I was just working on, instead of being man against man, it’s more about man against nature. My Klaatu says that if the Earth dies, you die. If you die, the earth survives. I’m a friend to the earth.”

Earth - also starring Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith and Jon Hamm - lands in theaters on December 12.

Hunter S. Thompson

Unless you were well-read and politically savvy in the late 60s and early 70s, you might not have heard of Hunter S. Thompson until the somewhat obscure film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas helped push him back in the limelight. But if you think the documentary-style Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson will take you back into that drug-soaked world, you’re wrong.

Known for his self-destructive ways, inebriated days and off-color behavior, Hunter S. Thompson was a larger-than-life character. But he was also a fantastic writer. It is to this side of Thompson that Gonzo pays homage.

Reviews of the film are full of praise. Variety says the flick “has a wealth of delightful archival footage to draw on, both directly involving Thompson and evoking the cultural landscape around him.” The Associated Press critic called it “a remarkably balanced look at a man whose creativity sprang from his perpetual state of imbalance.”

Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen

For his next production, Judd Apatow has once again reached into his bag of funny men to decide on casting. This time around, and Sacha Baron Cohen - rivals in 2006’s Talledega Nights - will be working as a team on a comedy about Sherlock Holmes.

In the currently-untitled project, the star will play the famous literary detective. Meanwhile, Ferrell will take on the role of Watson, his crime-solving assistant. The movie will be penned by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) for Columbia Pictures. No director has so far been assigned.

Although a target date hasn’t yet been determined, Apatow’s film could face comparisons to another upcoming project. Warner Bros. has plans for its own adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s books; that version will be helmed by ‘s Guy Ritchie.

There are times when a sneak preview can work to your advantage. (After watching the first seven minutes of Speed Racer, I knew I wouldn’t be able to tolerate the whole film.)

Then there are times when an advance clip can tell you way too much. Do you really want to know how begins?

Although the movie’s first five minutes have been out there, there are many of you who still haven’t seen it. Wait until July 18…or sample it now. You decide.

Heath LedgerIf you’re the type of person who immediately heads to the bathroom once a movie ends, you may want to limit your liquids during The Dark Knight. Exit quickly and you’ll miss Warner Bros.’ posthumous tribute to .

The film’s closing credits will acknowledge two Batman contributors who have died since the project began. In addition to Ledger, the crew said goodbye last year to a special-effects worker killed after a car crash during a stunt test. The simple farewell will read:

“In memory of our friends Heath Ledger & Conway Wickliffe.”

Meanwhile, the residents of Perth, Australia (Heath’s hometown) have just paid tribute to the actor in a much grander fashion. On Tuesday, an $87 million theater was named in Ledger’s honor.

Western Australia state Premier Alan Carpenter said they hope the Heath Ledger Theater will help others who have been inspired by the Oscar-nominee’s work. “Heath Ledger was totally dedicated to the craft of being an actor and that’s what made him successful. I think what we’re doing is continuing that support for young people who want to make a career in the arts and acting, stage and in film, whatever it happens to be.”
