Sequel News: The Host, Bad Boys 3 and More

The Host: A prequel is in the works for The Host, a 2006 Korean river monster hit. The film, which is being prepped for a 2011 release, will have a $10 million budget to work with. No cast or director have yet been hired.

Rambo: Sylvester Stallone is pumping up for some more action. One year after Rambo earned $42 million domestically comes word of a fifth film in the franchise. In the Stallone-directed feature, John Rambo comes face to face with drug lords and human traffickers while on a mission to save a kidnapped girl. Filming begins next year.

Bad Boys 3: Could Will Smith be lining himself up for another sequel? He’s already scheduled to make an I Am Legend prequel and Hancock 2, and now there’s hope he will also star in Bad Boys 3. Columbia Pictures is working to revive the franchise that ended in 2003. If Peter Craig (The Town) can churn out a worthy script, Smith, Martin Lawrence, director Michael Bay and producer Jerry Bruckheimer could all make returns.

Fantastic Four: The reboot of 20th Century Fox’s franchise is moving along. Although no cast has been confirmed for the latest Fantastic Four outing, a crew is being put in place. So far Akiva Goldsman (Hancock) is on board to produce while Michael Green (The Green Lantern) has been tapped to write. No potential release date has yet been announced.

Big Momma’s House: Now, is it good things - or bad things - that come in threes? Fox is now preparing to take another trip to Big Momma’s House. The series’ third installment will come 4+ years after Martin Lawrence donned the fat suit for the second outing. (Note: this is not the only threequel he’s being mentioned for right now.) Randi Mayem Singer (Mrs. Doubtfire) has been tasked with assembling a script.
