Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks

Mortal Kombat fans get ready because Midway is releasing yet another title of this huge franchise. This time is a little different, because now the game is played almost like the previously used “Konquest” mode.  You experience the Mortal Kombat II world as either Liu Kang or Kung Lao.  The characters will each have 10 different fatalities, weapons, interactive environments, and customizable characters. Jump down for some screenshots.

The other day we brought you our interview with Mark Rosewater, Head Designer of Magic: The Gathering. Today we bring you the next installment of Magic love in our interview with Randy Buehler, Magic Head of Research and Development:

Please explain Magic the Gathering?

Magic the Gathering in my opinion the best strategy game in the world.  Its primarily a paper based game, but Magic Online is a direct transliteration.  We have this strategy game we think is amazing and with a lot of fans, who seem to agree with this.  We have ported this onto the online world as well, so you can play the game either way.  Sort of one game, two platforms.

Mario Baseball Impressions

Mario Baseball is yet another foray by Nintendo into the Mario sports genre. Nintendo did not separate Mario Baseball much from their MLB baseball game as the two played very much alike on a fundamental level.  However, I did like that each character had their own style of batting and fielding. For example, the Sunshine guys from Mario Sunshine use a palm tree as their bat which allow them more space on the bat to hit the ball. Read on for our full impressions.

Chicken Little

I love platformers. In fact, if I had to choose one game type to play for the rest of my life it would be platformers.  Because of all this love I have for platformers there is one thing I hate more then anything else, including Rockstars games, is a bad platformer.  Most kiddie platformers, like Tak, are just bad.  So bad that I have giving up all hope that there might ever will be a good children’s platformer.  That all changed when I saw Chicken Little at E3 - find out why after the jump.

Saitek P2900 Wireless Controller

Rounding out the Saitek PC game controller front is the P2900 Wireless controller. What I like about this one is that it uses only one AA battery, and chugs along on that for 50 hours. That is how it should be done. Similar to the others, it has the FPS instant set-up button, four shoulder triggers, and soft handles. This one uses 2.4 GHz wireless RF to communicate with the PC. It’s good and all, but I have had problems using 2.4 GHz technology with my wireless G network. In fact, I had to upgrade my phones to 5.8 GHz because the interference would cause latency in the Internet connection.

Saitek P2600 Rumble

Saitek was also showing off a couple of other controllers at their booth during E3. This one is dedicated to having a more responsive rumble. Basically, the P2600 uses the latest technology to deliver strong, varied responses depending on what is going on in the game to provide for maximum realism. That is, if you consider your controller rumbling to be realistic. It also has backlit button, a First Person Shooter button to transform the controllers capabilities, four shoulder buttons, and soft handles. No hands on impressions though - these babies were behind glass.

Mark Rosewater Magic GatheringLast week at E3 we had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Magic: The Gathering designers Mark Rosewater, Randy Buehler and Magic pro player Sam Gomersa. Magic the Gathering is the first collectible card game and is set in a fantasy setting. It has been going strong now for 12 years with no end in sight. Magic: The Gathering can also be played via Magic: The Gathering: Online. The latest version of Magic Online version 3.0 should be out in stores shortly.

Most of our readers may not have heard of Mark Rosewater or Randy Buehler, who are the designers of Magic. These men are two of the greatest game designers on this earth. Their work is enjoyed by millions of gamers across the globe and their design has kept one of the most successful and longest running games going strong today. Join as they both give us a rare chance to see the secrets to the successful design of Magic: The Gathering, including video games, here today with Mark Rosewater, Wednesday with Randy Buehler and Friday with Magic Pro Player Sam Gomersa:

In a short explanation what is Magic the Gathering?
Magic the Gathering is a collectible card game. The best analogy is it's like playing Monopoly without all the pieces.

And what is Magic the Gathering Online?
A transliteration of the game. The idea for it came about from the main reason players quit, they did not have enough people to play with and had a hard time finding a game. Magic Online solved this problem, players can now find a game 24 hours, 7 days a week.

Xbox 360 The million dollar question remains truly unanswered, which next generation console is the best? Well the Microsoft Xbox team aims to try to answer this question by comparing all the numbers that are being fed to us by both PR departments in a four part series. Still wondering which console they say is the best. Can you blame them for stating that their console is the best? They clearly do make very good points and do give the PS3 proper credit; however to say that one console is better than another at this point is a mighty bold claim. What we need to see are in game stats and to experience both consoles ourselves to really make that final conclusion. One thing for sure is that we will all find out soon enough if the next Xbox lives up to expectations.
