360 HDMI Port

Xbox-Scene has received anonymously a picture which purports to be an Xbox 360 motherboard with an HDMI port. Speculation has already run wild in the forums from people claiming this to be a fake image, to those upset that Microsoft would launch a new Xbox 360 with an upgrade already. Currently, the biggest pointer to this being a fake image is the fact that the picture has been flipped horizontally. This could also be a developer board, but to include hardware that end users would not be able to use would seem to be a waste. Those wanting to compare this image with the actual Xbox 360 motherboard, go here. In any case, gamers should expect to see clarification soon with a statement from Microsoft.

Mercenaries 2Mercenaries 2 developer, Pandemic, has announced that they may release an Xbox 360 version of the game.  Pandemic is currently looking for a publisher for Mercenaries 2, and Lucas Arts, publisher of the first Mercenaries game is nowhere to be found.  PR for Pandemic confirms that they are considering the Xbox 360, and should make an announcement in the next couple of months.  With all of the games possibly coming to the Xbox 360 such as Assassin’s Creed, GTA IV, and Mercenaries 2; will Sony have any worthwhile exclusives come launch day?

Voice changerAudio4Fun has just released a software package which allows female gamers to change the pitch and tone of their voice.  The application works much like voice masking on Xbox Live and is targeted at female gamers who do not wish to be hassled while wiping the floor with the competition.  While this may be useful to female gamers, is it really worth $99.99 to masquerade as a male in the gaming community?  A free trial is available on Audio4Fun’s site.

Ctrl Alt Del Sony Parody

Sony’s latest European ad campaign has certainly caused a ruckus here in the US.  Many readers have found racial overtones in the current ad campaign.  Ctrl-Alt-Del has taken the initiative to provide Nintendo with a controversial ad to piggyback on Sony’s latest campaign.  Judging from the ad Nintendo doesn’t like game consoles that “got back”.

DS Lite GamesIndustry.biz reveals a report from market analyst Enterbrain, which linked the success of the Nintendo DS to a 30 percent software growth in the first quarter. The DS has been frighteningly popular in Japan, and continually dominates the hardware and software sales charts. It is unclear whether this is going to be a sustained growth pattern, or more of a reflection of the boom and bust cycles that follow a console release history. It is also uncertain whether this change is benefiting anybody besides Nintendo and a few of their partners; the majority of successful DS titles have been first party. It is possible that this is due to Nintendo’s early dedication to the format; other developers that follow in their footsteps may see their own successes, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Project Sylpheed

When Square-Enix’s shooter was shown for the Xbox 360, the tentative title was Project Sylph. The official site for the game has been launched, and it looks like the name is now officially Project Sylpheed. The new title clearly places the game into the same universe as the previous Sylpheed games. There isn’t a ton of information on the site, yet. Gamers can find story details, system requirements, character designs, and some screen shots of the game in action. Project Sylpheed will be an exclusive release for the Xbox 360. No mention has been made about Xbox Live features. The game should be released in Japan in 2006 but no official US date has been released. Getting an exclusive Square-Enix game should be seen as a coup for Microsoft, but so far this hasn’t swayed the Japanese audience.

GameFly.com LogoSo what if you don’t own the systems yet…you might as well start reserving the PS3 and Wii launch titles! Gamefly.com, one of the leaders in online gaming rental, has recently added PS3 and Wii tabs to their site meaning that you can currently put your favorite PS3 and Wii games at the top of your queue so that you don’t miss out when they ship. Somehow, I’m guessing they might run into some shortages when these games first come out.

Currently, GameFly.com is sporting 26 titles for the Playstation 3 and 27 titles for the Wii. (All, of course, “coming soon”) The full list of titles available can be found after the jump.

Sam and Max Cover of Computer Gaming WorldEver since Telltale Games, producers of the episodic Bone games for the PC, announced that they’ll be overseeing Sam and Max’s transition to 3D, they’ve been the talk of the town. Sam and Max Hit The Road was possibly the best 2-D adventure game LucasArts ever made (although I’m sure many will make arguments for Loom, Monkey Island, or Maniac Mansion), and Sam and Max: Freelance Police is shaping up to be a hit as well.

This week, Telltale announced that you’ll be able to get your hands on a LITTLE bit more Sam and Max information. The new game is still set to release in the fall of ‘06, but until then you can gaze longingly at the cover of Computer Gaming World, to come out July 24th. The issue features an all new piece of Steve Purcell art done for the cover, as well as interviews with the developers and other assorted goodies. 1up.com will also be running a companion podcast on July 14th, for those of you that can’t wait for the mag to hit newsstands.

And remember, the good word is “creosote”.

DS in Half Shell

Now that you’ve been convinced to buy a DS twice (you HAD to have the original DS when it came out, and now you’ve GOT to get the DS Lite), what are you going to do with that DS Phat? Give it to your girlfriend? Sell it for a third of what you paid on eBay? Or how about putting your creative juices to work and coming up with the coolest DS mod ever!

4ColorRebellion is reporting on a DS owner who painted up their original DS to look like a Koopa Troopa shell, and the results are absolutely stunning and gorgeous. Just keep in mind 4Color’s words of wisdom:

Please do not confuse this mod with an actual Koopa Troopa shell. Jumping on it repeatedly while on a stairway will not help you rack up infinite lives. It will just piss off your parents.

Good advice, guys!
