Rodarte's Fall 2008The fashion phenomenon known as Rodarte will soon be adding its name to the long list of houses that have created a diffusion line for Target.

Headed by the fabulous Mulleavy sisters, the couture-meets-edgy designs usually range in the thousands (per piece)—quite a far cry from the expected $9.99-$79.99 going for the Target line.

Target spokesman Joshua Thomas has assured potential buyers that they are not to be disappointed:

“What you’ll notice is an amazing eye for detail. It’s very feminine, yet very modern. The collection incorporates a rich mix of patterns and fabrications and everything from sequins and bows to faux fur. The key with Rodarte is layering… There are stand-alone pieces and pieces that can be worn together to create an ensemble by layering different patterns, textures and prints.”

A favorite of celebrities Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman, the diffusion line is due to hit stores December 20th and be available until February 6th, with a total of 55 pieces.

Jennifer Connelly for Balenciaga Fall/Winter '09

It appears as if Jennifer Connelly has returned to her modeling roots, having been deemed worthy of the coveted Balenciaga ads; however, no one’s too impressed by her awkward pose for this fall’s collection.

While it very much could have been photographer Steven Meisel’s fault, don’t forget that Connelly had a very awkward gaze in the house’s Spring/Summer ‘08 campaign…

Britney Spears in Candie's Ad

Avril Lavigne’s clothing line isn’t the only that can be purchased at Kohl’s. The department store is also the place where Candie’s - Britney Spears’ fashion sponsor - is exclusively sold.

While we’re used to seeing the singer dressed in less clothing, these pics are for the company’s fall campaign…so she kinda had to dress for the weather.

Britney also sports clothing by Candie’s in her new video for “Radar.” You can view that clip plus several other pics from the print campaign after the jump.

Avril LavigneWhile I doubt most people have been keeping up with or really given a second thought about her clothing choices, the Canadian pop star is forging ahead with her “fashion” career.

One year after launching Abbey Dawn, an apparel line for juniors, in Kohl’s department stores, the “Girlfriend” singer is close to introducing a collection for an even younger set. The selections, which will be available in about two weeks, will include layered tees, leggings and kid-friendly skulls.

Fashion design isn’t the only thing Lavigne is experimenting with these days. Black Star, a new fragrance she helped create, is due out sometime this summer.

Miley Cyrus is a fan of high fashionIn what can only turn out to be a coma-inducing interview in next month’s issue of Elle, Miley Cyrus talks about her “fashion line” for Wal-Mart:

“Oh my God, I’m so stoked! It’s a lot of peasanty, flowy tops, hippie and loose and sexy, like boho chill mixed with English-rocker-esque. Plaids, studs, rips, cool colors. The jeans are my favorite part of the entire line. Because, like, literally, this is going to good for, like, Middle America, and it will be great for kids that really want to be in fashion but they don’t have it available.”

After reading that remark, I greatly laud any journalist who has interviewed that girl. Kids who want to be in fashion but don’t have it available? It’s called thrift stores and the internet, Miley. But wait, there’s more!

“I would pay $500 for the jeans that we make for $20,” she said. “I’m really into high fashion.” I died a little inside when I read that. Christian Lacroix most likely put on his last couture show yesterday, and Miley Cyrus puts out a line for Wal-Mart and has the audacity to claim that she is really into high fashion. Will her egregious reign ever end?

Megan Fox at Armani Privé show

What does Megan Fox do when she has had enough of the Angelina Jolie comparisons? Find another female celebrity to copy!

Judging by her (random) appearance at Armani Privé‘s A/W ‘09/‘10 show, it looks as if the Transformers bombshell has moved on to burlesque dancer/model Dita Von Teese.

Poor Megan; it’s so hard to be original these days, eh?

Chanel Fall 2009

It seems as if Chanel is suffering the same fate Louis Vuitton is experiencing with their Madonna ads. Two images (check out the second after the jump) of the famed fashion house’s Fall 2009 campaign were recently leaked on the web.

Heidi Mount and Freja Beha Erichsen star in the campaign, which was conveniently shot by Karl Lagerfeld at his Vermont estate (this is not the first time he has used this location).

A sexy, more fashionable version of Little House on the Prairie comes to mind. What do you think?

Betsey Johnson has her eyes on a September retirementAfter decades of designing and producing every girl’s perfect prom dress, fashion designer Betsey Johnson’s reign at her company will soon be coming to an end.

“I should be retired. I’m basically screwing up because I’m not retired. I’d like to go in four days a month, something like that,” Johnson told New York Magazine. “My partner [Chantal Bacon] and I, we both want to know what would it be like to get up in the morning and go, ‘What do I do today?’”

Don’t worry—they’ve already found an heir (yes, it’s a guy!) to the throne: Eric Sartori.

Sartori, who has designed for Vera Wang and Hervé Léger, will be heading the brand. “He is the one. He’s much better than I am. He just has to Betsey-fy himself,” Johnson explained. The prom queen expects to hand over the responsibilities after the Fall/Winter 2009 show.

That’s not to say that she’ll be out of the picture, though…

Topshop expecting a line from Ginger Spice

As designers, models, and actresses of all shapes and sizes keep creating lines for H&M, Target, and Topshop, Geri Halliwell is now rumored to add herself to the long list of “designers.”

The former Spice Girl (who obviously was the first to deny pants among the current Lady Gaga-led revolution) recently met with Sir Philip Green, who owns the Topshop line. In all honesty, when any celebrity pops in for a cup of tea with the British billionaire, there’s a very good chance that there’s a Topshop line to follow.

The source claims that Geri is due to design a fashion range targeted towards women a bit older than the usual Topshop fair.

I cannot wait!

Oh yeah, I forgot that there’s only one Topshop in the States still. Argh!

Later this fall, audiences will finally get to the know the woman who reportedly inspired The Devil Wears Prada and told Oprah Winfrey to lose weight.

For The September Issue, director R.J. Cutler got rare behind-the-scenes access of doing what she’s famously known for. In the documentary, the Vogue editor-in-chief and her team work hard to create the magazine’s September issue, one of the fashion industry’s bibles. (The 2007 edition weighed in at over four pounds.)

September issue hits theaters on August 28.
