Today, Gemstar-TV Guide International Inc. has announced its purchase of jumptheshark.com. According to tvguide.com, “Gemstar-TV Guide plans to develop and promote the website, created by Jon Hein, across its multiple media platforms.” Whatever that means. The press release also indicates that Hein will also be working for Gemstar-TV Guide, and that “We look forward to continuing that tradition with the addition of jumptheshark.com, and also in integrating elements of that site into TVGuide.com’s new online community section, where it will further enhance our site’s comprehensive program listings, expert recommendations, movie reviews, and entertainment news and information.” That is press release-vague, so I still don’t know what this move will entail for either TV Guide or jumptheshark.com, but this entry does give me an excuse for posting the delightful image at right. You see, for those who don’t know, jumptheshark.com is a place to discuss when exactly television shows have passed their prime. The term comes from a Happy Days episode in which Fonzie jumped over a shark while water-skiing.

Pee Wee Herman Makes a Play-Date with Adult Swim July 10th
Posted by Abby Rose Dalto Categories: Comedy, Kids, Late Night, Cable,
Anyone in their twenties or thirties today likely has fond memories of the show Pee Wee’s Playhouse, which aired from 1986 to 1991 on CBS. The wacky, off-the-wall series featured Paul Reubens and an ensemble of characters doing just what you’d expect to do in a playhouse – playing and having a lot of fun.
Fifteen years after the show went off the air, it’s back – all 45 episodes! Comedy Central’s Adult Swim is adding it to their lineup of crazy cartoons and shows, starting July 10.
Reubens has been busy since the show’s cancellation with roles in films such as Blow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Nightmare Before Christmas, but he will always be known as the man-boy “Pee Wee Herman.” He is most famous for his work on Playhouse as well as its adult-oriented predecessor The Pee Wee Herman Show and accompanying films Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (1985) and Big Top Pee Wee (1988). He will also always be remembered for his arrest and conviction for indecent exposure, for masturbating in an adult film theater.
Pee Wee’s Playhouse – which introduced us to many of today’s stars such as Laurence Fishburne, Natasha Lyonne, the late Phil Hartman, and the voice of Cyndi Lauper (credited as Ellen Shaw on the theme song) – will forever be a cult hit.

Someone was listening! Every rant I’ve made about the absolute worst reality hostess of all time was heard! Katie Joel is packing her knives and going home. The now former host of Top Chef has been cut loose. Though no formal reason for her departure was given, we can all guess…her recipe was 100% flavor-free. I no longer hope Gordon Ramsay meets her in a dark alley, and I can finally look forward to Top Chef Season 2 this fall. Let the speculation on her replacement begin. Please, please, Alton Brown.

No Thank You Card From Namibia to Brangelina
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: Gossip, News, Rumors,
It wasn’t all smiles just a few weeks ago when Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie had their baby girl Shiloh, born in Namibia. No, a few people in this African country are asking the higher-ups to ban the couple from coming back. New Zealand’s Stuff newspaper claims Namibia’s National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) branded the couple “colonial overlords” and accused them of taking over the country. The paper went on to say an NSHR spokesman said: “To shut down a national border so she can give birth in peace is a massive abuse of power.” The human rights campaigners claim Angelina and Brad “used heavy-handed and brutal tactics” to persuade the Namibian government to agree to their demands.

A Lot Of Dough For Hell’s Kitchen Cook
Posted by Eric Chaloux Categories: Reality, Cable, Hell’s Kitchen,
Gordon Ramsay won a libel action on Tuesday against a British newspaper that accused him of faking scenes on his reality television show in the UK. Reportedly in November, The Evening Standard newspaper claimed that parts of Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares was rigged to make average kitchens look like hell holes and cast a bogus chef in one episode. The newspaper’s lawyer, Adam Cannon, said the Evening Standard now accepted that the claims were untrue. The newspaper’s publisher agreed to print an apology and pay £75 000 (if my conversion is right that’s under $200,000) in damages to Ramsay and the makers of his show.

After 44 years of service at CBS News, Dan Rather is leaving “The Eye” network. CBS News and Rather say the break was amicable. What a difference a week makes. Several days ago Rather was interviewed in USA Today saying that he planned on staying at CBS for the rest of his career. The 74 year-old’s contract was up in November.
After giving up the anchor seat more than a year ago after “memogate,” Rather has been rarely seen on 60 minutes- only filing 8 reports. Many wondered how that would change now that CNN’s Anderson Cooper was coming over to file reports for 60 Minutes.
Could this be the last time we hear “Dan Rather Reporting” ? Possibly not. Rumors are swirling that Rather may take up an offer from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and host a show on HDNet cable channel.

Project Runway Season Three Hopefuls Announced
Posted by Christina Furtado Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Cable, Announcements, Internet,
Bravo has released the names of the participants of the next cycle of Project Runway, which will debut on July 12 at 10 pm, preceded by an hour-long casting special. The aspiring designers range in age from 25 to 49, and hail mostly from California and New York, though there are a few from places like Oklahoma. Though I was disappointed at Chloe Dao’s win in the last cycle—Santino had the best final collection, in my opinion—I still can’t get enough of this show. Seeing Heidi and Tim on recent commercials for the show on Bravo has made me seriously giddy. Speaking of Tim Gunn, if you’re a fan of the show and of him, drop by Tim’s Take on the Bravo website, and don’t forget to listen to his podcast after every episode. It’s a real treat and adds immeasurably to the whole Project Runway experience.
