Jorge Garcia and J.J. Abrams

Jorge Garcia was confident Alcatraz would be successful because of J.J. Abrams.

The 38-year-old actor - who worked alongside the Lost co-creator during his time playing Hugo "Hurley" Reyes on the show - knew he was in "safe hands" when he agreed to portray Dr. Diego "Doc" Soto in the new Fox TV series because he has so much confidence in the helmer.

"I love what J.J. does with his work and he's also just a really great guy. Tom Hanks and Jonah Hill on last week's SNL

Jonah Hill was put in his place by Tom Hanks during Saturday Night Live over the weekend. The Moneyball actor hosted the NBC show on Saturday, and his monologue started with him talking about how proud he was to have been nominated for an Academy Award last month, despite losing out to silent film The Artist.

"It's been a great year for me. I was in a film I am extremely proud of. Even though The Artist won best picture, I still think Moneyball was one of this year's best talkies," he said.

He then went to a pre-taped routine about his week behind the scenes, which shows him telling the SNL cast to follow his lead because he's an "Oscar nominee."

Britney SpearsBritney Spears has reportedly been offered $10 million to judge the US version of The X Factor.

The "Hold It Against Me" singer's fiance and manager Jason Trawick is said to have "been negotiating for some time," with executives for the talent search show. One source told E! news Britney has been offered the huge sum to appear on the second series of the show - which returns later this year - but she's said to be holding out for $16 million.

The first run of The X Factor was judged by show boss Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul, although the latter two were subsequently axed after it failed to achieve the ratings Simon had hoped.

Simon is said to have initially approached Britney, and recently admitted he was "fascinated" by her and think she would be ideal for the show: "I would think that if she's managed to sustain in her family life in a career which is tough, this is a walk in the park."

Christina Hendricks as Joan Harris in Mad MenChristina Hendricks borrows clothes from the Mad Men set.

The 36-year-old actress says playing office manager Joan Harris in the 1950s drama has helped boost her own sense of style and she sometimes can't resist taking home some of the outfits rejected for her character.

"I have certainly learned silhouettes from Joan. I wear a lot more pencil skirts and things like that - I realize they look good on everybody. Sometimes there are dresses that Joan doesn't end up wearing and every once in a while I will borrow one for an event," she said.

However, Christina insists her personal style is a little more reserved than her character's: "I like to sort of be 'put together.' I've actually been a fan of being a bit more covered up than Joan. I've always believed that's a sophisticated and sexy look."

Kelly ClarksonKelly Clarkson has joined the judging panel of new TV talent show Duets.

The "Stronger" hitmaker - who found fame on the first series of American Idol - will join forces with music legend Lionel Richie, as well as Jennifer Nettles and Robin Thicke on the upcoming ABC series, which is set to debut this summer.

After scouring the US for undiscovered talent, Duets will see the celebrity mentors paired with aspiring vocalists for a live performance in front of a studio audience each week, with the eventual winner bagging a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

"The simple fact that I get to go out and find two people that I believe in, sing with them every week, and help them accomplish their dream is an amazing thing that I can't wait to be a part of," Kelly said in a statement.

The 29-year-old singer - who worked as a guest mentor on The Voice last year - has previously admitted she has been given a "hard time" because she found success on a TV talent show: "People have given me such a hard time. I came from a singing show, so I like singing shows, obviously. What was the big shocker there?"

LeAnn RimesLeAnn Rimes has stepped closer to a job on The X Factor judging panel.

The "Can't Fight The Moonlight" hitmaker - who is believed to be filling one of the spots left vacant by axed judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger - reportedly spent all day Wednesday locked in a secret meeting with show chief Nigel Lythgoe.

While fellow X Factor boss Simon Cowell was not present, it was said to be a "great meeting," X17online.com reports.

In addition to her 18 years in the music business, LeAnn brings with her the accolade of being the younger Grammy winner in history at the age of just 14.

While the 29-year-old singer will find out whether she has landed the lucrative gig in the next three weeks, it is also thought troubled star Britney Spears is being lined up to join the panel: "Britney has had a tough few years but this would put her back at the very top. She would be great for the show and it could be great for her. In terms of excitement and intrigue Britney would top them all," an insider said.

Tommy HilfigerTommy Hilfiger has been hired as an image advisor for American Idol. In the newly-created position, the 60-year-old fashion designer will be charged with developing the style of each contestant.

"I will look at where they were, where they are today and the possibility of where they could go, because I don't think their image will evolve without some trial and error. 'We need to take into consideration their ages, color preferences, sizes, what types of music they will be performing, what they wear on their feet and how they wear their hair. There is going to be a real package put together on each person."

Talking about his decision to take on the role, he told WWD, "I thought it would be exciting and challenging and different, a place where I could use all of my experience in fashion and music. If you look at what makes a star, it's not only musical talent, it's the complete package. And that includes image. If you look at great superstars from Michael Jackson to Madonna and Lady Gaga and Katy Perry today, they each have a unique style and that adds to their persona. It's the icing on the cake."
