Casting Announcements for The Tudors
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Cable, Showtime, News,
Look for a few celebrities to be donning their best period garb in the new season of The Tudors.
Although she is better known for her soulful voice, Joss Stone will be venturing further into the acting world on the cable series. The British singer, in her first major role, will star opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Henry VIII). Stone will play Anne of Cleves, the daughter of a German nobleman whose marriage to Henry is eventually annulled. Believing she doesn’t live up to the portrait he saw of her, the king quickly has his fourth wife sent away.

(You can view TV Envy’s Summer Television Programming Schedule here.)
MONDAY (7/28)
- Wanna Bet? (ABC,9pm): “Corbin Bernsen, Tom Bergeron, Rip Hamilton and Melissa Peterman are the celebs placing the wagers. Stunts include a man trying to kick himself in the head 45 times in one minute.” Wanna bet people only know who half these ‘celebrities’ are?
- Paranormal State (A&E, 10pm): Season Two premiere. “The team investigates supposed activity at a home, including the mysterious destruction of religious objects and the unexplained appearance of dead animals near the home.” Dead animals? Should they be looking for ghosts or a serial killer?
- Make a Move (DIY, 10pm): “Amy Wynn Pastor helps newlyweds with their eco-conscious home, including projects like a compost heap, a kitchen upgrade and a wall demolition.” Ah, newlyweds. Always so annoyingly optimistic.
- Weeds (Showtime, 10pm): “In Mexico, Celia discovers the joys of discounted medicine at local pharmacies.” If only she had known about the $4 generics at her local Wal-Mart.

Mary-Kate Guest Stars on Samantha Who?
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, Showtime, Announcements, Gossip, Ratings, Rumors,
It looks as if the troubled half of the Olsen twins is truly back on her feet! Mary-Kate Olsen is returning to television again, guest starring on the ABC comedy Samantha Who?
After her 10 episode stint on Showtime’s hit series Weeds, the former child star is actually becoming an adult in the acting world (need I remind you of those straight-to-DVD movies and New York Minute?). After all, she did just turn 22… it’s about time!
The pint-sized actress plays a character who needs “saving” by Christina Applegate‘s title character. Sources say that although she has only been scheduled for one episode, everyone has been more than happy about her performance. Hopefully she can graduate to real films now!
The episode is scheduled to air this upcoming fall.

MONDAY (6/23)
- I Love the New Millennium (VH1, 10pm): “Eight-part series featuring stars reminiscing about pop culture phenomena of the new millennium begins with the year 2000.” Is it too soon to wonder what VH1 will cover in 2011?
- Legally Blonde the Musical: The Search for Elle Woods (MTV,10pm): “The ladies perform with a canine costar: Bruiser, the dog from the musical.” I had no idea Ashton Kutcher revived Punk’d.
- Psychic Kids: Children of the Paranormal (A&E, 10pm): “A 14-year-old boy, who claims to see spirits of people and animals, is introduced to siblings close to his age who supposedly have paranormal gifts.” I’m always happy when freaky kids find someone to play with.
- Weeds (Showtime, 10pm): “Celia’s hard time in county lock-up gets harder when her cellmate decides to make Celia her ‘special girl’.” Yeah - that would definitely suck.

MONDAY (6/16)
- The Bachelorette: DeAnna Tells All (ABC, 8pm): “With six bachelors remaining, DeAnna Pappas assesses the competition to win her heart so far, as do her six beaus.” Apparently revealing their boxers just hasn’t told her enough.
- Weeds (Showtime, 10pm): Season premiere. “Nancy, Andy and the boys, on the run after she set fire to their house, head to the beach and a ‘heartwarming family reunion’ with Judah’s grandmother.” Had I known this show was only 30-minutes long, I could have caught up a long time ago!
- The Mole (ABC, 10pm): “The contestants, clad in nothing but their underwear, hit the streets of Santiago, Chile and solicit clothing.” At this point, the show could probably use a little skin to ramp interest up a bit.
- Secret Diary of a Call Girl (Showtime, 10:30pm): Series premiere. “A high-priced London escort entertains a middle-aged client who enjoys role-playing and has a penchant for being down on the farm.” I think that summary says it all.

Mary-Kate Olsen Officially Enters Emmy Race
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Award Shows, Drama, Showtime, Gossip,
Showtime has entered famous twin Mary-Kate Olsen as a nominee for the Emmys, a result of her 10-episode stint on Weeds. Olsen is entered in the best guest actress category, which could potentially set her up to run against Lindsay Lohan (scheduled to appear on Ugly Betty) and Britney Spears (How I Met Your Mother).
Submitting an Emmy nominee entry is no laughing matter. Each entry costs a few hundred dollars apiece, proving that Showtime has a lot of faith in their young guest actress. So far, neither Britney nor Lindsay have been entered into the race, though popular speculation assumes both will be in the near future.
Olsen appeared in two-thirds of the season’s episodes, portraying a hard-core Christian drug dealer. The role was Mary-Kate’s first major solo effort, as the actress has always routinely worked with sis Ashley. If Olsen is nominated, it will be her second turn at the Emmys. Mary-Kate was nominated, though Ashley was not, for her work on So Little Time. Two rounds of voting will determine whether or not Mary-Kate Olsen wins the nomination - and only then will she be a viable contender for the actual award.

The Last Season for The L Word
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Showtime, Renewals,
Showtime has just announced that it will be giving fans of The L Word a sixth and final season.
The drama - one of the longest-running series on the cable channel - debuted back in January 2004. The show, which initially drew attention because of its cast of primarily lesbian characters, was not the first gay-themed program for Showtime. Queer as Folk had already made its debut in 2000. (Folk closed up shop after five rounds.)
The last eight episodes of the series are slated for air in early 2009. Meanwhile, the current season’s finale is scheduled for March 23.

Big Brother 9 Shocker: Allison Evicted, Ryan Now Head of Household
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Showtime, Editorial, News,
Just when it looked like this painful season of Big Brother 9 would dwindle away into ratings obscurity, the game got a major jolt of energy tonight: There will be no more couples. It is now every man and woman for themselves.
The big headline of the night is that Allison was evicted and Ryan, her former partner, is now Head of Household. We were told yesterday that the house guests were to expect to hear a siren sometime today. When that siren went off, all of the house guests were to rush to the living room to hear the “important game-changing announcement.” Tonight, that siren went off just after Allison and Ryan were evicted as a couple. In the end, Allison, the drug company salesperson from Boston, went home and Ryan is now in charge of the house. We also learned that America gets to vote on which already evicted house guest (Jacob, Jen, Parker, Amanda, Alex or Allison) will get a second chance in the Big Brother house. You can vote for that as we speak on CBS.com.
