“It’s not anything I haven’t dealt with before,” Didi Benami, the tenth contestant eliminated from American Idol 9, remained positive as she spoke with the press following the Wednesday results show. After all, rejection is all part of being in the industry. “You get kicked down and you gotta get back up and start over,” she philosophically explained.

American Idol 9: Top 10 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
American Idol’s Top 10 results show opened with a Clash of the Titans movie tie-in. Simon Cowell, of course, was the villain, with the contestants portrayed as Titans in the opening video package. It was pretty cute, but it’s still blatant cross-promotional advertising.
Viewers were not graced with a group performance this week. To see the entire Top 10 singing together on one stage, it seems you’ll have to go to one of the summer tour shows. Though the Idols did not sing together, this particular results show was still jam-packed with stage shows, starting with one favorite AI alum.

American Idol 9: Top 10 Perform
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
Ryan Seacrest started the Tuesday performance show in the backstage area, something of an unusual start for American Idol. After Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres exchanged a kiss, the host walked to the big stage to soak up applause from the waiting crowd. Ellen’s outfit, by the way, was pretty weird-looking.
The Top 10 performers of this performance round will for ever be part of the Idol pantheon. This summer, they will tour the country and continue to peddle music. After that, only a few of them - if even that many - will go on to lasting recording industry success. Will your favorite season 9 contestant soon be a Grammy-winning artist? Maybe…but first, they’ve got to get through this week’s elimination.
Usher was the mentor for the week, the theme of which is R&B/Soul in honor of the star. “To be a great performer, you really have to understand what it takes,” he told the contestants upon their group meeting. “I want you to be great.”
“This is their time to shine, and this is the stage to do it on,” Usher seemed to accept his responsibility with sincerity and seriousness.

Dish Network’s American Idol Dis

A Gawker visitor sent this funny picture to the site to show everyone what Dish Network thinks of American Idol. The on-screen listing for the series reads “Starring Ellen DeGeneres and some other people.”
Once Simon Cowell says his good-byes at the end of the season, that’s probably how Fremantle is going to look at it, too.

How Do American Idols Pick Their Songs?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors, Spoilers,
If you watch American Idol, you know that the judges do a lot of harping about “song choice.” We’ve seen it make or break many a contestant, and we know it’s a pretty big deal. It’s hard to vote for a song you hate, right?
But how do the American Idols pick their songs? Well, you see, they get a list every week. And we’ve got the same list of songs the Top 10 received for their R&B week performances, which will air live Tuesday. Will your favorite be one of the picks?
This week’s list includes a mix of decades and performers, from Al Green to Alicia Keys, tunes like “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love” and “My Prerogative.” You can read the entire list (122 songs in all) at Vote for the Worst.

Ousted American Idol Paige Miles Speaks
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
“There was the possibility of doing permanent damage,” Paige Miles spoke to reporters in a gravelly voice after her Wednesday elimination from American Idol. The eleventh-place contestant suffered with illness for three weeks leading up to her permanent dismissal from the show. “I had to take it easy. Unfortunately, it was bad timing. Awful timing.”

American Idol 9: Top 11 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
The Top 11 results show of American Idol 9 was given a big intro, with emphasis on the importance of being in the Top 10. Only this group will make it to the Idol summer tour and stretch their fame a bit longer, potentially going on to long-lasting success in the music industry.
The judges’ save is still in effect and unplayed. Would it be used Wednesday night? Before we could get to any votes results, the Top 11 performed the lasting favorite “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” Great choice. The Top 11 sounded great together, too, easily making this the best group performance of the season.
This week’s Ford commercial was set to the tune of “It’s Our Time Now,” and featured lots of colored balls. That is the truth. As always, you can watch the Ford videos on the official Idol site.

American Idol 9: Top 11 Perform

Ryan Seacrest started the Tuesday performance round of American Idol with well wishes for Lacey Brown, who was eliminated from the Top 12 last week. “This is a big night…the Top 10 make the tour,” Randy Jackson explained the stakes at the top of the episode. Ellen DeGeneres then took a few moments to promote voting (because that helps make the show more money). Kara DioGuardi and Simon Cowell also buried the hatchet at the beginning of the episode. Cowell offered an apology after Kara explained her point of view: that “every song tells a story.” Then, quite randomly, Ellen and Ryan kissed - quite awkwardly.
“It’s probably the worst night to go,” Simon Cowell grimly reminded the contestants, just before they were brought onto the stage.
The theme for the week was Billboard hits - again. This led into a video package about Billboard’s “Hot 100” list. The mentor for the week was Miley Cyrus, who certainly knows something about #1 hits. “The talent is not the question. It’s just making them feel comfortable,” Miley explained her mentoring style.

American Idol 9: Tuesday Performance Spoilers
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Rumors, Spoilers,
UPDATE: New sources report that the theme has been changed from Teen Idols to Billboard Hits, so it looks like we’ll be hearing a random collection of chart-toppers…again. Why did they change the theme? There’s no official word from the American Idol camp, but we’re guessing the original theme was just too ambiguous.
Rumor has it that the Top 11 will be singing to the theme of Teen Idols on Tuesday, something of an ambiguous category. Are we talking early Spears, Aguilera and Timberlake? Or are we looking more along the lines of Justin Bieber? We’ll just have to wait and see - or, dig up more spoilers!
Either way, check out all our other American Idol 9 posts.

American Idol 9: What’s Next for Lacey Brown?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
While the other American Idols were preparing for their next performance round, Lacey Brown was doing the press junket following her Thursday elimination. Her unique voice won’t be featured on the Idol summer tour, but this may not be the last time we hear from Lacey Brown.
“I knew it was highly unlikely that [the judges] were going to use their wild card on the very first cut,” Lacey admitted in her Entertainment Weekly interview. “But I knew that I had a moment to sing to America again, and I was going to make the most of it whether I was crying or not. I just tried to do my best with it.”
