American Idol 9: Top 3 Perform

began Top 3 week by announcing the home town of each of the remaining Idols. The three finishers have the honor of singing it out to make it to the show’s prestigious Top 2, a season finale extravaganza which will culminate in the crowning of another American Idol.

The Top 3 won the chance to go home at the end of last week’s results night, where Michael Lynche was in fourth place. There was no mentor for the week and not much of a theme, either. The contestants and the judges selected tunes from a large Idol grab-bag of former hits.

American Idol 9: Michael Lynche Talks Elimination

Michael Lynche, who became American Idol’s latest casualty on Wednesday night, won’t have too much time to feel disappointed that he didn’t win the reality competition. He’s got a baby he’s barely seen, a tour coming up in the summer…and potentially, an album full of love songs in his future.

“I love love songs,” he explained during his exit interview. “That’s what really speaks to my soul, when someone is in love and it’s just raw and honest.” Big Mike knows something about love - he won over the hearts of America during his long Idol run. “I think I was consistent every week and always gave my heart every time I sang.”

Michael Lynche hopes to do an album in the near future, and doesn’t begrudge his fourth-place finish. “It’s not a bad place to be where I am,” he said.

American Idol 9: Top 5 Perform

American Idol 9’s Tuesday performance episode was opened by Ryan Seacrest and That’s right, folks - it’s Sinatra night. Connick, Jr. is perhaps best known for his hit “It Had To Be You.” Sinatra was best known for his baby blues and his velvety voice. He was, arguably, the greatest singer of standards, and he is certainly a legend.

Unlike most Idol mentors, Harry Connick, Jr. brought his own band members and worked on the arrangements of the contestants’ songs. He performed with them all, playing piano on the stage for all five songs.

Before the singing began, ’s daughters gave Simon Cowell one of Sinatra’s monogrammed handkerchiefs, an item which is now amazingly valuable. The Sinatra connection, the Cowell connection, the American Idol tie-in…eBay would be thrown into a frenzy over such an item.

American Idol 9: Siobhan Magnus will Keep on Screaming

“I hope to create a sound that is my own,” said of her future plans, on the heels of her American Idol 9 elimination. “I love every kind of music that moves me.” Siobhan was best-known for the sustained high notes she hit while singing on the Idol stage. Her unique sound and eccentric look immediately set her apart from the other contestants. She was, as Simon put it, “a funny little thing.”

Before she goes out on tour with the other Top 10 Idols, Magnus plans to spend some time with her friends back home. “I can’t wait to see everybody. I’m sure we’ll have a big family dinner. Family dinner, for us, means at least thirty people sitting down together.” Yowzah.

Siobhan maintained a positive attitude after her elimination, telling fans “not to worry.” “This is the end of one thing and the beginning of a new thing. I have so many big ideas.”

American Idol 9: Top 6 Results

The American Idol 9 judges had few negative comments to make Tuesday night, which set the stage for a very unpredictable elimination round on Wednesday’s results show. Thirty-three million votes were recorded following night.

Rascal Flatts kicked off the show with “Unstoppable,” performing the tune as ably as you’d expect. Classic country song, very straightforward stage show, a few hot guitar licks. The song was really, really long. Rascal Flatts is soon going out on tour with Shakira, an odd combo.

American Idol 9: Top 6 Perform

Only six remain in the competition, and there are no more saves to see them through the elimination rounds. All must go for one to stand alone, and they all must present their very best for the oh-so-important Tuesday performance rounds.

This week, the theme was , who has often bridged the gap between pop and country. She’s a multiple Grammy award winner and she’s enjoyed plenty of Number 1 hits, which makes her a good mentor choice. She advised the Idols to make her songs their own, as if they had written the tunes themselves. “I’m going to be sitting on the edge of my seat,” she predicted of the performance round.

“I think I just wanted to be…happier. And I couldn’t fix who I was, being upset with how I looked on the outside,” used these words while explaining her decision to have plastic surgery while dining in a fine restaurant with her family. Unfortunately, Heidi couldn’t really eat her food - her jaw was too sore after she chose to have ten procedures in one day.

In the video, Heidi’s self-esteem is called into question - though Montag didn’t cotton too well to the comments. Watch the scene (which is from MTV’s ) in the video above.

At the top of the spectacular, host Ryan Seacrest immediately introduced the President of the United States and his First Lady, Mr. and Mrs. Barack Obama. Two praised the Idol Gives Back event and urged viewers to contribute to the cause. In his typical contemporary fashion, President Obama then gave a message to the Idol contestants: “As Randy Jackson says, you’re all my dogs.”

Ryan then reappeared on stage to introduce the judges and hype up the crowd. served as the host of the event at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, which was filled with a screaming crowd.

The Top 12 were brought back together for the first group performance of the night, an incredibly weak number. The only big moment in the song was given (predictably) to Crystal Bowersox. Could this show please make it more obvious that they want her to win? I’m not sure the astronauts on the space shuttle have managed to get the message yet - they’re so far away, and all.
