Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt Though the leading promos seemed to promise otherwise, Heidi Montag did not become Mrs. Spencer Pratt on season finale.

The couple was all set to marry in the Beverly Hills courthouse…until Pratt backed out of the whole thing.

He had a little encouragement to this end from Stephanie, who told him, “You can’t do this. She’s going to regret this. I think this is wrong.”

Not the marriage, mind you, just the wedding. You see, Heidi wants a big wedding. The show has been making a big deal out of this.

And so, Spencer called it off. “I just want to give you the wedding of your dreams that you have been talking about for three years. I’ll deal with it. It’s worth it to be with you the rest of my life. We’ll do it the way you want.”

Queue the white doves, long limos and three hundred guests - the big wedding would make for a great season-opener. Hey, that’s probably what MTV is thinking, too.

I usually shy away from reality projects featuring Scott Baio (not falling for that one again), but I just may have to make an exception for VH1. The network will soon be premiering its brand-new Confessions of a Teen Idol, which features seven former hotties who all share the same mission: grab the brass ring.

You know, again.

They each had their shot at fame and some even spent a little time at the top. But Hollywood is capricious, and soon enough all of these men found themselves on the swift path to being has-beens. But VH1 - and apparently, - thinks they could be shining stars once more. Or at the very least, reality stars. Here’s the funniest part: Baio is part host, part mentor to these would-be famous-again celebs.

I know, it’s a total riot.

MONDAY 12/22)
  • Prison Break (FOX, 9pm):  “Sara is waiting for news of Michael in a luxury hotel, and she’s not enjoying the luxury.” She becomes unreasonably paranoid anytime someone offers to turn down her bed.
  • Momma’s Boys (NBC, 9pm):  “The guys go on group dates planned by their moms and individual dates they planned.” Until the big move, NBC will just run MTV’s hand-me-downs.
  • The Hills (MTV, 10pm):  Season 4 finale. “Lauren and Heidi run into each other and are reminded of why they used to be friends.” I, quite frankly, could use a reminder as well.
  • 17 Kids & Counting (TLC, 10pm):  “The family welcomes the arrival of Jordyn-Grace Makiya Duggar.” Wake me up when they get to “J.Lo.”

Muppets Christmas

MONDAY 12/15)
  • Heroes (NBC, 9:00):  “Mohinder may hold the key to rescuing Hiro.” I’m starting to wonder if Mohinder has the answer to anything.
  • 20/20 (ABC, 9:00):  “Teens put on a show in a chronicle of a Virginia high school production of ‘The Wiz’ that uses video diaries and interviews to follow the emotional drama of students.” Sadly, this is the same network that also put together the barely-watched .
  • Worst Week (CBS, 9:30):  “Sam helps Dick choose the perfect gift for Angela after discovering he gets her the same thing every year.” Just for the record: Some things like spa packages and jewelry can be given over and over again.
  • The Hills (MTV, 10:00):  “Heidi and Spencer consider eloping during a Mexican vacation.” Whatever you do - avert your eyes.

In one of those bizarre celebrity pairings, three time Academy Award nominee recently sat down with MTV reality star Spencer Pratt. Er…sort of.

Cruise apparently stopped to chat on The Hills After Show (seriously, yes, there’s an after show) and ended up talking to a picture of (who I guess is way too cool to actually attend the after show). The famously married movie star offered up some pearls of wisdom to the newly-married TV personality.

MONDAY 12/8)
  • A Charlie Brown Christmas (ABC, 8pm):  “The gang mounts a holiday pageant as bemoans Yuletide commercialism.” Sorry, Charlie. Not much has changed since 1965.
  • Boston Legal (ABC, 9pm):  Series finale. “Financial problems may force Crane Poole & Schmidt to be put up for sale.” If the economy keeps going the way it’s going, that might not be the only thing ABC has up for sale.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm):  “Alan considers early retirement when Evelyn offers to foot the bill for Jake’s college education.” After looking at his latest 401K statement, he then realizes that retirement won’t come anytime soon.
  • The Hills (MTV, 10pm):  “Whitney interviews for a job in New York City.” Top resume skill: Able to effectively communicate in short sentences.

NBC Universal logoNot even those reporting on the nation’s massive layoffs are immune from them.

Today, continued the downsizing of its worldwide workforce. Hoping to reduce its upcoming budget by $500 million, the company began laying off approximately 500 staff members - including people from the NBC News division - earlier this week. That number equates to approximately 3% of the total corporation. Sources claim that several correspondents have been cut while Donny Deutsch’s CNBC Show, The Big Idea, has been put on hiatus. (Apparently it’s getting harder to find successful entrepreneur stories at this time.)

Meanwhile, Variety reports that 300 staffers from MTV Networks and 100 employees from also became casualties of the economic downturn.

MTV didn’t pull any punches when it came to the end of their reality project. First, there was the hour-long reunion show, a spectacle replete with cat fighting and mini-games. Next, there was the drama-infused finale, where Paris was asked to choose a BFF in either Brittany or Vanessa. But wait - there’s more! After the very drawn-out conclusion, MTV aired a 30-minute special showing Hilton’s friends welcoming the new BFF into their midst.

It was two and one-half hours of TV. And I watched it all.

Heiress Paris Hilton has narrowed the field down to only two potential BFFs, the number down from eighteen hopefuls who participated in the MTV reality project . After Tuesday’s double-elimination episode, Paris is left with two choices: Brittany and Vanessa.

And from what I’ve seen so far, she’s stuck between a rocker and a head case.
