On Gear Live: 2024 Nissan Z Nismo Review

Rosie O'DonnellAfter Rosie O’Donnell’s announcement that she’ll be leaving The View, the rumor mills were buzzing about possible replacements. Potential candidates mentioned include Kathy Griffin, Joan Rivers, and Connie Chung, among others. Looks like we have a front runner though with Roseanne Barr, with many speculating that her outspoken demeanor would fill the void nicely. Roseanne responded to the gossip, saying, “I would love the chance to do that… I think I would do a real good job. I’d stir up some real good controversy.” I’m willing to bet after the dust settles when Rosie leaves that the producers (and head Viewmaster Barbara Walters) may just want to steer clear of controversy for awhile. After all, O’Donnell provided more than her fair share of that.

Rosie O'Donnell The rumblings about Rosie O’Donnell leaving The View finally became a reality this morning when she announced the news on the daytime talk show. The outspoken co-host will be leaving the show in June, just one year after she blew in to fill Star Jones’ vacant seat. According to O’Donnell, she and ABC could not come to a contract agreement—they wanted her to remain on the show for three years, but she only wanted to stick around for one more. Fear not, she will show up from time to time during the next season, at least for an autism special, if not on other occasions. O’Donnell said, “It just didn’t work, and that’s show biz. But it’s not sad because I loved it here and I love you guys and I’m not going away.” While I’m sure Barbara Walters, Joy and Elisabeth are letting out a collective sigh—since O’Donnell turned things upside with her penchant for speaking her mind—it’s unclear how this will impact ratings. When Rosie came on board, ratings took a major upswing. With her departure, who knows? Walters commented, “We have had, to say the least, an interesting year.”

David Letterman In one of those rare talk show appearances, Letterman will grace the stage of Live with Regis & Kelly for Reege’s triumphant return following heart surgery. Letterman’s guest appearance shows his continuing friendship with Regis, who filled in when Letterman was out with shingles in 2003. Regis was also the first guest booked on Late Night after Letterman returned from a quintuple-bypass surgery. Regis returns to his gabfest on Thursday, just six weeks after a triple-bypass heart surgery. Their ticker problems are not all the hosts have in common—they also share a doctor, since Dr. O. Wayne Isom performed both of their surgeries. Philbin’s return seems speedy, but it’s likely that fans have been missing him after the multitude of fill-in hosts. Regis returns just in time for May sweeps… after all, the show must go on!

Bob Barker The hunt for the next Bob Barker is underway, with three finalists vying for the coveted Price is Right hosting gig. Wouldn’t it be funny if one of the choices were Sanjaya Malakar? I kid. Really though, the three contenders are Mark Steines from Entertainment Tonight, Todd Newton of E!, and uber-tan guy George Hamilton. Other reports are saying that John O’Hurley, of Dancing with the Stars, is also in the running. The search has been going on for quite some time, but the buzz is that CBS will announce the new host in mid-May. Bob Barker is taping his last Price Is Right show in June, after 35 years on the job. It makes me wonder if they’ll do a whole overhaul on the show, with new games and sets. Personally, I think the cheesy stuff should continue because that’s what made Price is Right such a game show institution. I mean, can you imagine this show without Plinko?

Rachael Ray OK, there’s no disputing that Rachael Ray is a do-gooder. And in this case, she helped a high school where eight students and the school were lost in a tornado on March 1st. Not only did she plan the meal and help prepare it, but she also paid for the prom for Enterprise High School in Alabama. She filmed the whole thing and will air it on the April 30th episode of her talk show. “The students of Enterprise High are so courageous, given all that they’ve gone through,” said Ray. “When I heard about what happened to their school and classmates, we wanted to help.” And that’s not all—Mandy Moore showed up to sing three songs at the end of the shindig. The memory of their fallen classmates was not forgotten, as they displayed pictures of the students and honored them. Still, students found it hard to celebrate, with one senior commenting, “It makes it a little harder for me. I’m used to all of them being around.”

Dina Lohan Lindsay LohanYikes, is Rosie O’Donnell at it again? This time, Dina Lohan (Lindsay’s mom) was scheduled to be a guest on this morning’s The View, but Rosie put the kibosh on it. O’Donnell apparently is no fan of mama Lohan’s mothering skills. Of course, there was bound to be talk of little Linds, who just finished her rehab, and Dina’s image as a “party mom.” O’Donnell was outspoken (naturally) on Wednesday’s show about an interview that Dina had done with Harper’s Bazaar, in which she said “I’m not the party mom!” despite recounting club hopping outings with Lindsay. The producers took notice of O’Donnell’s criticisms and The View issued a statement saying, “Dina Lohan was booked to appear this morning on The View, but, at the discretion of the producers, the booking was canceled.” O’Donnell is adding to her list of enemies, for sure.

EllenApparently there are no limitations to talk show host overexposure.  And since Oprah has the magazine, book promotion, TV movies and satellite radio markets covered—Ellen Degeneres was forced to go a different route:  Greeting cards.

Fans of Ellen who need more than a daily fix of cutesy will now have 32 specially designed greetings to choose from.  Each card will feature illustrations of the comedianne along with her trademark humorous quips.

Alex Trebek Who knew Jeopardy could be so exciting, right? Three contestants all finished with the exact same dollar amount after the Final Jeopardy question on Friday’s show—$16,000. The tie marks a first for the long-running game show, and Alex Trebek’s glee over the event could barely be contained. The category was “Women of the 1930s” and all three contestants answered Bonnie Parker. “We’ve had a lot of crazy things happen on Jeopardy! but in 23 years I’ve never seen anything like this before,” Trebek said. To prove just how crazy this occurrence is, Jeopardy contacted a mathematician and discovered that the chances of a three-way tie is one in 25 million. Since all three men tied, they were all announced as winners and competed again on the show, which will air today.

Regis Philbin One of the hardest working guys in showbiz is going to have to take it easy for a little while. Regis Philbin, 75 (can you believe that?), has scheduled open-heart surgery for later this week. Philbin made the announcement today on Live with Regis and Kelly, saying, “There’s some plaque in some arteries and I got to get it cleaned out.” Huh, sounds a bit oversimplified, but Philbin said that chest pains and shortness of breath led his doctors to this decision. He also expressed his concern, saying “Darn it, I don’t want to do it. Nobody wants to do it, I guess.” Friend of Philbin, David Letterman underwent a quadruple bypass back in 2000. His recovery is expected to take five weeks and perky co-host Ripa commented that she would dress as a nurse and give him a sponge bath during recovery. In the meantime, look for a cavalcade of guest hosts to fill the void on the chatfest.

Colby DonaldsonFollowing in the footsteps of Survivor contestant Elisabeth Hasselbeck, who co-hosts on The View, Survivor castaway Colby Donaldson will be joining Rachael Ray. Perhaps an effort to appeal to the male demographic, or just another personality to cut Ray’s over-the-top persona? His job is “content buddy”—he’ll give viewers more of a male perspective and conduct interviews. Donaldson told Us magazine that he is “thrilled to now be with Rachael Ray enjoying this daytime adventure with real people. I love hanging out with Rachael and the food perks are pretty great too! It’s good to know my days of eating bugs are over!” Ray’s show has done very well in the ratings and earned a renewal, so seems Donaldson will be sitting pretty on the daytime talk show. You may remember him from his runner-up status on the Australian edition of Survivor, or from the all-stars edition, where he was the seventh to be booted. You could have seen him on Curb Your Enthusiasm, or maybe you know him from the razor ads. At any rate, he will be a handsome addition to the show.
