Survivor Micronesia: That’s Baked, Barbecued and Fried!

Wow – the decisions made by this year’s crop of players never cease to amaze me. We’re already four weeks in now, and I’m not quite yet sure whether Survivor: Micronesia boasts the stupidest or the cleverest cast of characters yet.
The strange choice to eliminate Yau-Man continued to have aftershocks long after the Tribal Council. Ami apologized to Cirie for surprisingly writing her name down, but said she only did it because she didn’t like how Cirie was going back and forth. Later, Jonathan had his own exchange with the swing vote – but that conversation was far less cordial. He accused her of being far more manipulative and devious than he.

Survivor Micronesia: I Should Be Carried on the Chariot-Type Thing

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Survivor,

The first two weeks of Survivor: Micronesia have given us several head-shaking Tribal Councils in a row. Let me assure you, Week 3 was no different.
Mikey B. – who was completely blindsided by Mary’s elimination last week – quickly figured out that Joel was behind the whole plan. Unfortunately, he just couldn’t figure out why the firefighter did it. “I don’t blame the move as long as the move wasn’t you trying to take that whole crew.” (Uhh, what other reason would he have?) Mikey felt Mary’s dismissal was a completely wasted move. Instead of getting rid of the weak links on their team, he thought Joel was far too focused on the long game.

MONDAY (2/18)
- Prison Break (FOX, 8pm): Tonight may be the end of the show as we currently know it. Maybe Michael can finally let go of that steely gaze now.
- Dance War (ABC, 8pm): The next Dancing with the Stars contenders will be announced during the spinoff’s season finale. Finally, a reason for me to watch.
- Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm): Robin Antin is searching for a gal to complete an entirely different musical act. With Danity Kane already taken, she had to settle for the 2nd crappiest group name available.
- My Dad is Better Than Your Dad (NBC, 9pm): “This competition series features fathers and their children in challenges that test the patriarch’s strength, intelligence and parenting skills.” Since when did NBC start stealing ideas from Nick TV?

Thursday Ratings: No Love for Eli Stone

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Drama, Games, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Specials, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Apprentice, The - Donald, Lost, Survivor, Ratings,
While romantic date nights could explain declining performances for Lost and Eli Stone, the same reason doesn’t apply to Celebrity Apprentice’s improvement. By night’s end, CBS was again a winner with the viewers while ABC had the edge in the demos.
8pm
- Survivor: Micronesia (13.1 million, 4.5/13 in 18-49) lost 800,000 deserters.
- Deal or No Deal (11 million, 3.4/10) saw a 1.7 million improvement.
- Lost* (6.2 million, 2.0/6) slid by 300,000.
- Coverage of the NAACP Image Awards (1.4/4) drew 3.9 million.
- Smallville (3.7 million, 1.5/4) was off by about 300,000.

Survivor Micronesia: The Sounds of Jungle Love

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS, Survivor, Features,

After just two weeks, Survivor: Micronesia has already proven to be quite an interesting season. I don’t know if it’s because the editors have gotten smarter over the past 15 installments or the players have just grown wiser. Whatever the reason – the past two episodes have kept us on our toes with some nice twists and turns up until the final vote.
Malakal – having just eliminated the controversial Jonny Fairplay – returned to camp feeling like a whole new group. Although his unexpected departure threw off some individual plans, it was hard to deny that life was better without his annoying presence.

MONDAY (2/11)
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8pm): “Sarah meets a stranger (Brian Austin Green) who shares a similar past.” They were once both white rappers?
- Dance War (ABC, 8pm): “The touring company of ‘High School Musical’ performs.” The contestants, now left with inferiority complexes, are unable to go on.
- Flavor of Love (VH1, 9pm): Third season premiere. Is it a coincidence that a Flav-ex has since show up on Celebrity Rehab?
- Prison Break (FOX, 8pm): “The escape attempt is successful for some, if not all, of the escapees.” Apparently you can miss weeks of this show and not miss a thing.

Reality News: ‘WWE’, ‘Big Brother’, ‘Dancing with the Stars’, ‘Survivor’

After ten years with the CW/UPN organizations, the wrestlers of the WWE are now in search of a new home. Friday Night Smackdown - a decent ratings earner for the network - wasn’t apparently considered worthy of its renewal price. Displeased with recent negotiations, World Wrestling Entertainment has started shopping its product around town.
Although the loss of the show will now create a two-hour void in CW‘s weekend lineup, the network will now have a place to shelve their experiments gone wrong (e.g. Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants). Or maybe they can use the spot to air marathons of America’s Next Top Model or Beauty and the Geek?
Whatever they ultimately do, they have until Sept. 12th to figure it out.

ABC found success in the demos thanks to Lost‘s two-week winning streak. Meanwhile, the debut of Survivor: Micronesia helped CBS with the viewers.
8pm
- Approximately 13.9 million saw the 16th season of Survivor: Micronesia (4.7/13 in 18-49).
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (9.5 million, 2.7/7) actually bested Howie Mandel.
- Deal or No Deal (9.3 million, 2.6/7) found itself in a rare third place.
- Lost* (6.5 million, 2.2/6) sunk 7 million from last week.
- Smallville (4.0 million, 1.8/5) remained even with its last outing.
