Evan Dollard, American GladiatorsIn an action-packed two-hour finale, the two champions were crowned Sunday night. I expected more tough events and plenty of competition, but much of the broadcast was soaked with longer contender interviews, replays of favorite moments from the show and lengthy segments on the four competitors at home.

Twenty minutes were gone in the broadcast before finally gave me what I wanted - an event. The gladiators were in top form, making it difficult for any of the contenders to score points. Lightning-quick Evan Dollard did wow the audience with a spectacularly quick climb up The Wall, for the third time in the show’s history. “Soccer mom” Monica Carlson scored big in Assault, sending Gladiator Helga flying from the platform to smack a pool of water. Quickly, it all started to come down to the Eliminator - the obstacle course that’s broken so many competitors throughout the season.

The American GladiatorsFor many athletic competitors, bragging rights alone is reason enough to pit themselves against the toughest of the tough: the built, buff, brawny . But in this new incarnation of the show, those who have the guts (and chops) to face the Gladiators stand to win much more than a simple competitor’s claim. They will also walk away with a cool $100,000 and the right to join the Gladiators next year. But first, the four final competitors have to beat each other to gain the glory.

Confusingly, has scheduled the finals not on Monday (the show’s usual night), but Sunday at 7 pm EST. The two semifinal rounds put competitors through more challenges than ever before, hinting the finals will test them at every single event the show offers.

Pushing Daisies Now that we are days away from a probable end to the writers strike, has felt comfortable talking about the network’s future.  Although the rest of 2007-08 remains unclear, the 2008-09 year is starting to take shape.

A total of nine shows have so far received renewal notices from the Alphabet network. That’s not to say more won’t come.  But many programs not currently listed may have reason to be nervous.

Of the shows returning this fall, five are ‘veterans’; four are newbies that survived their freshman year.  Those programs (in alphabetical order) are:  Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Private Practice, Pushing Daisies, Samantha Who? and Ugly Betty.

A sampling of those not mentioned include October Road, Carpoolers, Cavemen, Boston Legal, Men in Trees and Women’s Murder Club.  (Big Shots is apparently dead already.)

Moment of TruthNow that has successfully breezed through its two-week trial run, the show is being rewarded with a nice bonus.  - apparently believing the reality show’s gimmick won’t tire quickly - has added on another 13 episodes to its initial 12-pack order.  (I’m guessing it was the program’s stellar debut that instilled the network with such confidence.)

Although a list of potential seatwarmers dwindled after the show’s first two airings (seems the attention seekers weren’t too thrilled about what they had seen), other ballsy contestants will be stepping up.  Production on the additional segments will begin on Feb. 11th.

Celebrity ApprenticeJust when you think the Trumpster is down and out, he just keeps coming back for more.

Even though his ‘recruitment’ show once faced cancellation, it’s had a reversal of fortune and now been granted an extension.  Impressive numbers for has made think twice about letting and the reality staple go too soon.  (No rush decisions should ever be made during a writers’ strike.)  Come this time next year, we will be seeing a second round of stars vie for credibility and airtime.

Seriously, a boardroom full of D-listers is really the only thing that keeps viewers attracted to the show these days.  It’s not like anyone really believes winners do anything for Trump’s organization anymore.

Mad MenThanks to an interim deal between Lionsgate and the WGA, fans of at least two scripted programs have the comfort of knowing their shows will eventually return.

Because they are part of , production on both and can once again resume.  Writing on the drama was scheduled to begin way back on November 7th.  Meanwhile, this recent turn of events has proved quite timely for the series; work on the 4th season was originally slated to start about now.

DescriptionAfter three years toiling her way through the bottom of the celebrity barrel, comedienne has not quite worked her way up.  (Or so she says.)  Thankfully for fans, this means another season of her winning series,

While we can expect more appearances from Griffin’s usual assistants, there’s one thing we won’t see: more orchestrated blind dates like the one she had with Backstreet Boy .  Kathy - who is currently dating millionaire Steve Wozniak (Apple’s co-founder) - recently told that “The Woz” will be seen on the show.  No return date has yet been announced for the program.

American GladiatorsNow that fans have confirmed interest in its return, has officially decided to renew for a second season.  (This anti-climactic announcement comes as a big relief to the naive contestants; they had already been led to believe they could be a Gladiator.)  No timeline has yet been announced for the show’s next round. The current season will finish its run in February.

After choosing to dust off The Mole, ABC has set its sights on another old friend.  This time it’ll be seeing the light of day.  The series, which will premiere sometime this summer, had been (surprisingly) dormant for a whole three years already. The last woman to hand out the roses was Jen Schefft (Andrew Firestone’s ex) back in 2005.  No details on who the next Bachelorette-to-be have yet been revealed.  Meanwhile another installment is preparing for a March 17 debut.
